Comments about Behringer U-CONTROL UMA25S USB MIDI Controller:
This is what I needed: a small controller that can run vie USB power or on its own - it takes 3 AA - batteries. I have a midi irig for my phone that allows me to use an external midi keyboard. However, the keyboard needs to have its own power source. This little guy does the trick. For this feature alone, I was happy! The other extras that put it over the top are:
-Included gig bag, headphone w/ mic, and guitar strap
-It's a usb audio interface!
-You can attach the guitar strap and make like a keytar soloist from the 80's!
Now for the bad-the velocity control is not so good. If I were using this for performance purposes, I'd probably turn off the velocity control, which is easy to do. I also haven't really figured out how to use the transport buttons with Garageband, Finale, or Logic, and programming is not exactly user friendly nor is the manual.
Bottom line is that this an incredible bargain for the price. I do quite a bit of vocal arranging and I end up using this little keyboard a lot. I simply plug it into my laptop, plug in the headphone/mic, and get writing. It's improved my workflow.

Comments about Behringer U-CONTROL UMA25S USB MIDI Controller:
I bought this for three uses:
1. Entering music into finale/sibelius
2. Iphone keyboard
3. Small, secondary keyboard for performance.
So far, it works great for music notation entry and with my iphone it's perfect because it can be powered via battery as well as USB. I haven't used it yet in a performance setting but I think it will make a great secondary keyboard for me. I play a lot of musicals where I would like to use this as a space saving second keyboard for the occasional bass/string/oboe/etc. solo without having to change the sound on my main keyboard. I do see that I will want to fiddle with the velocity sensitivity setting before I use it live. If my view on it changes as I use it more, I'll update the review!
Comments about Behringer U-CONTROL UMA25S USB MIDI Controller:
The value of this product is fantastic. Its very inexpensive, but packed with useful features. Things are not solid, and its certainly got some issues. But overall its a solid product that I've trusted under some tight conditions. If you're looking for something ultra light and portable and packed with features, this is an excellent device. If you're looking for a serious performance instrument, you may need to spend some more money, if you're looking for an inexpensive 25 key controller with realistic playing keys, you may want to look at another product.
You can say all you want about this little thing, but for eight encoders, eight buttons, pitch bend AND mod, 25 keys, two pedal inputs, AND an audio interface, this thing is really fantastic.
Programming is difficult but not impossible. Just takes a constant read of the manual!
Its all plastic of course, but its really quite durable, I don't feel like its cheap at all. The knobs are decent, and though the buttons are a little hard to hit sometimes, they are quite durable. For the price the construction is solid.
I could care less about the "headset", but the case is really nice, I keep all my cables in the huge front pocket. Nice that they have a pocket for the manual, you're going to want to keep that handy for programming! The case is of good quality and hey the strap is kinda cool.
My biggest issue with the device are the keys. I can get used to the short scale (especially considering how thin the thing ends up being!), but there is a serious velocity issue. Some keys take a big hit to get to work. There is a big inconsistancy in velocity. This may be an issue with just my model... maybe I'll ask Behringer about it one of these days.

Another great product by Behringer! I have been using their equipment for years, and for the price you can't beat it. This is a great midi controller, I have had it for about a year, NO PROBLEMS!!!
Comments about Behringer U-CONTROL UMA25S USB MIDI Controller:
I figure anything this portable involves some compromises... I bought this so I could compose on the road, so I'll accept some compromise. I almost bought the Oxygen w/XLR, but learned of it's design flaws. Also this keyboard is way less bulky than other 25-key boards (it it flatter.) Now as for the "key feel" which is so important to people who learn on real pianos etc., this DOES NOT HAVE IT. The compromise for all this compactness is that the key travel is really short, like 1/4". The velocity sensitivity is there, but you MUST tailor the velocity curve of the board and software to get to a sweet spot. The other controls, pitch mod etc., are all really smooth, full featured, rubberized and nice. The headset mic quality is odd, but OK for getting ideas down. The USB line in/out can be quite good, but out is noisy (faint beeps and hums) on some computers. Comes with cool gig bag. If the USB noise issue was fixed and it had XLR input with phantom power, I would rave about it.

Bought it some weeks ago and it works great. No complaints at all and higly recommended. I like the strap that allows you to play on stage.
Comments about Behringer U-CONTROL UMA25S USB MIDI Controller:
This board looked great from its specs: built in audio, mic input, gig bag, mod and pitch wheel, headphones, programmable expression jack and wheels. But the keys are crap. They work intermittently and are very inconsistent. Not sure why this is so bad as it is exactly like my M-Audio 02. Really disappointed in the quality because it's a well thought out portable. Now I have to return it, pay for shipping both ways. I will seriously think twice the next time I order anything like this online without having tried it first.
