Comments about Casio AP-420 Celviano Digital Piano with Matching Bench:
I wanted something that feels as close to a real piano as possible. I went to store and tested a few Yamaha (YDP140, 141, 135) and Casio. Except for AP420, I didn't like Casio. They feel plastic and cheap. Yamahas are all quite nice, yet you know that they are digital. I ended up with Casio AP 420 because the combination of a good deal and the nice feeling. I don't care much about how many different tones it has, but one feature I found pretty cool: it can layer two different tones together. The build in songs, and the score book are definitely a plus!
Both the piano and the padded bench look solid and pretty enough as furnitures in the living room. The minor thing that I noticed is that the control pad on the left of the keyboard was tilted as first. I had to push it down to its place, but that's no big deal.
As for assembling, I'd recommend not puting on the four plastic caps as indicated in the instruction, wait till you put the back board in. I screwed one side a bit tight and that caused the bottom board tilted up a little bit enough to stop the back board to slide in. It's a huge pain to undo the caps.
In all, I'm really happy with the product!
Comments about Casio AP-420 Celviano Digital Piano with Matching Bench:
I did a ton of research on all the digital pianos in this price range, and went out to the stores and played several models. I decided on the Celviano 420 for several reasons, and I couldn't be happier. I realize Casio may not have as strong as a reputation as Yamaha, Korg ,or Roland, but Casio has outdone themselves with these new Celvianos. I played a more expensive Roland, and I swear the 420 has a much better, more realistic feel. I did like the Yamahas, but for some reason (that still baffles me) none of the Yamahas in my price range have 1/4 inch outputs, and I wanted something that I could plug directly into my Tascam. Yamaha needs to realize that not everyone records via USB or MIDI. Sure there are better digital pianos out there, but I truly feel the 420 is the best in its price range. Also,it looks nicer in person, the brown is quite a bit darker than what it looks like in the pics. If you want something with a ton of sounds I would consider going up to the 620, but I pretty much only use the piano and string sounds anyway, so the 420 was fine for me.
Comments about Casio AP-420 Celviano Digital Piano with Matching Bench:
I recently purchased this piano from Musician's Friend. It was the best price I could find online with fast FREE shipping. My intention was to upgrade from my old CASIO AP-21 which had a very plastic, clunky feeling keyboard. This new CASIO AP-420 feels GREAT the keys are quiet and feel very similar to an acoustic piano. The sound quality however is awful. It is worse than my old AP-21. The sounds, sound muffled not clear and precise. It is better with headphones so I think the piano has the capability to sound better if you use external speakers. The features of this piano are great for the price and the quality of the cabinet is very good also; but overall I was disappointed due to the poor sound quality. The moral of the story, "you get what you pay for".
