This is exactly what I was looking for. It has no unneccessary features and it doesn't sacrifice in the features it does have. It is a weighted hammer action 88 key digital piano with USB MIDI out and a 1/4" headphone jack. It has a good piano sound. I can turn it on and play the piano. I can plug in headphones and practice silently. I can plug it into my laptop and record songs or use it to trigger other voices. It's really nice to play. The price is unbeatable. The piano sound is wonderful.

To my mind you can spend hundreds and thouasnds more and not get a whole lot more piano than this. If you want a digital piano to play and enjoy this is it. Casio did a really nice job. Great keyboard with all the essentials. No frills, no fuss, no paying for features you don't need. I love this digital piano.
It has (5) on board voices: piano 1, piano 2, elec. piano, harpsichord, and strings. It has USB MIDI out. It has (1) 1/4" headphone out. It has a sustain pedal jack and basic pedal. It has 88 weighted keys that feel like what I remember a piano feeling like. They have a nice resistance and return. They feel absolutely nothing like a synth keyboard.

I don't think any keyboard can sound or feel 100% like your idea of an acoustic piano. I grew up fumbling around on a Kimball upright piano and it had a somewhat heavy action that felt like all the other old uprights I came across in churches and schools and other people's homes. That's what I think a piano key feels like. This Casio feels plays like a piano to me. I am pleasantly surprised at how satisfying it is to play.

I think this has all the features you need in a digital piano: scaled hammer action keys, a nice piano sound, speakers and a headphone jack. The rest (recording, extra voices, teaching tools) is gravy and easily made up when you connect this to your computer. Let the computer do the heavy lifting.
The case looks nice, the keys feel wonderful. The speakers are adequate. The onboard voices sound good, especially the two piano sounds. The reverb and chorus are fun to play with and are pleasing when used in moderation. It's easy to navigate the settings. I think this was well designed, sounds great, and is very pleasant to play. It feels solid when you pick it up. I'm confident it will last as long as I need it too.
Absolutely outstanding! This is the absolute best value in a weighted 88 key digital piano today. I shopped for weeks asking questions of sales clerks, piano players and tried to read up on current models. I found that, as with nearly everything musical, your choice in instrument is very personal. If you like it, it's the right choice. Also, you can get hung up on the 'best' when to the vast majoirty of us there's really very little functional difference between an inexpensive quality unit and the top shelf.

While shopping around I went a local music store and played a Korg SP-250 which is similar in features. I liked that board. It sounded nice and was ok to play. Having played both I like the Casio action much more and it costs hundreds less. This is the best deal in a digital piano you can get.

We bought this for our 10 year old daughter. It is a nice step up from what she was using.

We like: 1) the simplicity (fewer voices is just fine with us), 2) nicely weighted keys, 3) volume increase as the key is pressed harder (nice touch), 4) the grand piano sound is good enough, and 5) we can easily move it from her room upstairs to the downstairs family room. All in all a nice unit.

We do not like: when you release ANY white key it makes an annoying sound (soft, but annoying) when key returns to the up position.

We only offer a 3 STAR RATING because Musicians Friend said they ship the manufacturer's box inside another shipping box... they didn't, which 1 ) allowed our daughter to see what came to the house (for Christmas) and 2) less shipping protection.

I am disappointed with Musicians Friend for 1) not shipping as they said they would and 2) we bought a three year warranty with it which has NEVER BEEN REC'D. Called their customer service and after a unnecessarily long phone conversation they said it would be sent out... that was over 2 weeks ago and still nothing.

Bottom line.
The product is decent, 4 stars (B report card).
Musicians Friend, 2 stars (D report card).

Comments about Casio CDP-120 Digital Piano:

Purchased as a gift just before Christmas. Power switch went bad just after Christmas. Musicians Friend arranged an exchange, even shipping the replacement unit before they'd received the original keyboard. How often does that happen? Very pleased with the customer support. Would not hesitate to purchase from them again.

Comments about Casio CDP-120 Digital Piano:

I am a guitar player and wanted to learn how to play piano having taken the regular lessons as a child I am taking this on well into adulthood. I wanted a piano that didn't weight a ton and didn't cost too much in case I ended up failing at learning it and stopped playing. This fits the bill. It is a lot like a real piano. I will say that if I'm able to get better at playing I might buy an acoustic piano, but until then this is great!

I've played piano for many years, and this is my first digital piano. It is very simple to use with basic functions. I love the sound of this digital piano, which sounds like real piano. I would recommend this for anyone who has difficulty access to a real piano.

If you need a basic electric piano for home practice, this is it. Good feel, good sound. I forget it's not a spinet piano. Sounds good through an amp. Very good feel. The bottom line is that this Casio replaces a small upright in function. There are no gimmicks, no features you don't need.

If you only want a digital piano for the piano only, this is for you. There are no extra gizmo's or effects, just piano and a few other sounds. Feels like a real acoustic piano. I would highly recommend this to others.

The only thing missing is an on-board metronome for practice purposes.
