Designed to be the heart of your performance rig, Its controller features allow you to control two upper and two lower zones. Each zone can be one of the PX-3S' sounds, control an external MIDI device, or both simultaneously. The PX-3S' internal tones can be customized to meet your needs with 64 insert effects (all editable), adjustable filters, envelopes and more. All of your changes can be stored and instantly recalled from the PX-3S' 64 registration locations.

Comments about Casio PX-3S 88-Key Digital Stage Piano:

I purchased my PX-3 from a Musician's Friend Stupid Deal of the Day, so for me I got and excellent piece of gear at a great value. At it's normal price I'd say it's still a very competitive and well priced stage piano.

First, let me state I'm not a keyboard player. I'm a lead guitar player that can fill in on keys occasionally. I've wanted to buy a quality pro keyboard for a long time to beef up my keyboard skills and this is a great piano for that. I do use it on stage and it's more than capable of filling that role. But bear in mind it is a stage electronic piano, so it's not going to be the kind of piano to be used as a nice household piano. For example, it has no speakers. That's not a problem for someone like me as I have it plugged into my home studio and use my studio monitors when I play it at home. When it's played on stage it goes direct into the mixing board. That's what it's made to do, and it does it very well.

The PX-3 has a very large range of instruments, or tones as they refer to them. The majority of these tones are quite good and are equal to some of the best sampled tones on much higher priced units. Far and away the best tones can be found in the variety of natural keyboard instruments such as pianos, organs, and synths. Their strings are pretty decent, but as you move into horns and woodwinds they're not much better than your standard MIDI sounds.

For my uses that's fine as I primarily use the keyboard instruments anyway. My biggest disappointment is in the MIDI implementation and the documentation/design of how it's accessed. I was hoping to be able to use the MIDI playback in somewhat of a "player piano" mode so that if I'm playing guitar on a song I could have the PX-3 provide an additional instrument and simply trigger it's playback via a MIDI command. Unfortunately Casio's MIDI implementation doesn't include MMC transport commands nor does it allow the MIDI playback to have access to the richer PX-3 tones, only the General MIDI tones which are not even close to the same richness. I'm not sure why they chose to do this as this is clearly designed as a stage piano. The MIDI playback feature is an okay learning tool if you want to practice with a MIDI band, but even then they would have been better off allowing you to playback audio files as accompaniment rather than just General MIDI.

Overall I'd still say I'm quite pleased with my purchase and it will fit my needs quite well.

Comments about Casio PX-3S 88-Key Digital Stage Piano:

I don't have anything other than "I love my PX3" to say.
Mine is a PX3, not really sure what the S is but.......

I've been playing live in one form or the other since 1960. My style is hammer down Rock/LeonRussell/Blues. Never concentrated on 'Organ' type style or sounds but....

This keyboard at a whopping 21 pounds truly is pound for pound my favorite, escpecially to play live. I have Kurzweil 88 key weighted keyboard, a Motif 8 and a small handful of Midi rack mounted stuff and I'm just going to say that people should spend some good quality time checking out this board for the money.

It's truly stupendous in my book!!!
I'm getting up there in age, and the one and only questionable feature is the readablity of the control panel. Other than that it's fabulous. The best 'feel' of all my keys.
Go spend $4000.00 plus and you can't get much more in terms of usable function for practice time playing or live. Midi in something and off you go.
