I got this to replace a similar earlier model I got back in the '90's and lost in a flood. I like a lot of keys, while this is lightweight and low cost otherwise.

This one records a few more songs than the last- six I think, and several tracks each, but they stay in memory only as long as the batteries are in place or it's plugged in-

It's best to use in recording by outputting through the headphone jack- split to monitor and record all the tracks to computer as one. This one added a usb port but I couldn't get the crude downloaded software to do much. Another more expensive Casio version up has an SD slot- that might be worth it if you can get tracks onto it and into the computer- I don't know, haven't used one.

There are lots and lots of sounds, though some are similar, but compared to some of the digital pianos that is a plus- They layer, split and transpose, but the functions are more streamlined now, and even after experience with a similar model, I had some trouble getting it all sorted out from the instructions. the sustain and dampen functions are difficult to find and set, if you want to use an optional foot pedal.

A top end board may have more realistic voices but these are pretty good in a lightweight package for people on the go- It easily goes along if you move. For the money this is a great keyboard- if I bought another one now- I'd spend a little more for the SD card model. If recording is no factor- this is the better deal.

I'm hoping to get a weighted board eventually, and have been disappointed thay havent put many voices into them- I hope this one is still working then though

First of all the product manual says the Casio WK-200 is Mac compatible. It is BARELY so. Mac software such as Garage band can recognize the unit, but that is the full extent of it's so called Mac compatibility. The voices cannot be transferred from the keyboard to Mac OR Windows software. This keyboard uses a proprietary .sp7 file format for the sound files and these files are not readable nor are they transposable into usable file formats, such as the midi file format. If you want to record the voices from the keyboard into your computer, you are out of luck. If you use the built in 6 track recording studio to compose a song and want to transfer it into your sound editing software, Mac OR Windows, you are out of luck. This is a serious, and in my opinion, fatal oversight on the part of Casio, as it makes the unit practically useless as a workstation.

WK-200 Keyboard: Fabulous teaching machine!

By William E. Isakson

from CA soon moving to OR

Comments about Casio WK-200 76-Key Digital Keyboard Workstation:

See above. I can tell you that the result is that I am learning the songs that are built in much faster than I did when I was just reading from a music score.
I bought this Casio WK-200 Keyboard under the Stupid Deal which came as "refurbished restock." The unit does everything claimed and more. It even has its own built in speakers to which you can add a mic. Understand, it is a cheap machine, so the keys feel like the electronic keyboard that it is, not weighted like an old upright or an expensive modern electric piano, but it plays easily and smoothly and it is touch sensitive. Now as a teaching machine it is fantastic. The advertising did not mention that part. The built in songs, of which there are many and various, can automatically be broken into phrases and into right and left hand parts. It shows which key to play, which finger to use, and shows the note you are playing on a small score. When you are in this teaching mode, when you play the phrase it gives you a point score, one to a hundred, and also indicates "bravo" or "repeat." In other words, it keeps track of how you are doing. Tie that together with many many different available voices for when you are playing from sheet music or on your own and you have a machine that will eventually make a secondary companion for the more expensive machine you buy later. But you won't need that for a while. The only thing I miss a little is that the built in songs have a songbook that comes with the new machines, but not with the refurbished restocks. I miss that because I do read music, but on the other hand, without it the machine is teaching me to just learn the songs. That actually might be a plus.

I have not really had it long enough to say how long it is going to hold up. It is a lot of plastic, but I would not count it as a temporary toy. I think it is fine.
Very inexpensive and a great teaching device.

Does NOT Save Songs

By Songwriter8

from New York City, NY

Comments about Casio WK-200 76-Key Digital Keyboard Workstation:

Contrary to what may be alluded to in the Casio catalog, you cannot save songs to your hard drive that you created with the on-board sequencer. I actually called Casio about this and they had no idea how to resolve this problem. I had to return the keyboard to Musician's Friend because I only bought the keyboard so that I could make demos to send to a friend of mine. Also, even if you don't care about saving your sequenced songs, the sequencer itself is very rudimentary. It is not stereo, there is no volume control for each separate track, and you cannot do punch in/punch out editing (if you make a mistake, you have to go back to the beginning of the track to re-record again). If you choose to buy the sustain pedal (M-Audio), the keyboard does not sustain piano samples very well. It does sustain string samples, so I am presuming it is the synthesizer and not the sustain pedal's drawback. This is a very rudimentary keyboard for a beginner. Many of the sounds are nice, but I could not even do rudimentary song-creating work with the synthesizer.

Comments about Casio WK-200 76-Key Digital Keyboard Workstation:

I love the keyboard. It has really great piano voices and really good choir voices. It is easy to use - I had it layered with piano and strings within minutes. This replaced all the keyboards I had back in the 80's. I had an entire midi studio with 2 keyboards and 2 sound modules that gave me 64 voices but took up an entire room. Now I have the keyboard mounted above my HD recorder and I can do everything I want from there. It didn't come with the appendix that listed the voices but I was able to download from the Casio site. The only downside was the AC adaptor that I ordered with the keyboard was shipped US mail and took 10 days to arrive - I had to buy batteries so I could use the keyboard

Casio WK-200 keyboard

By 79stratman

from The Cheddar Curtain

Comments about Casio WK-200 76-Key Digital Keyboard Workstation:

I have spent much more money on worse-sounding gear (granted, mostly guitar-centric stuff...), but this keyboard has been perfect for developing ideas and techniques. Now, I just wish I had more TIME to spend with this cheap date!
A decent feature-set, considering the minimal cost of this unit (Stupid Deal of the Day pricing). A tonewheel addition would have been a nice bonus.
Lots of plastic, but not as cheesy as I had originally anticipated. Haven't used the WK-200 long enough to determine it's true reliability, but no issues so far. It DID survive a traumatic shipping event, where the carrier managed to put 16" gaping wound into the side of the box. I was worried the keyboard would be damaged, but it had no obvious damage, either external or internal.

What was really surprising was the better-than-expected piano and organ tones. Granted, I am a tone-fiend when it comes to guitar-related things. Though this shouldn't be directly compared with the Nord Electro 3 keyboard I've been Jonesing for, the tones of the WK-200 are decent enough to not be inspiring, rather than a constant distraction.
I wasn't really sure what to expect, but figured it was worth taking the risk placing the order. Glad I did. Definitely worth it!

My New Keyboard

By ED-HGaKc

from Columbus, Ohio

Comments about Casio WK-200 76-Key Digital Keyboard Workstation:

This keyboard has excellent paino and organ sounds, which I what I use most often. I bought this as a second keyboard to use with my Yamaha PRS-740 for live performance. Between the individual sounds and the layering capability, it's worth the price alone. The keys feel solid and sturdy, and much more than you would expect in this price range. This keyboard through my Yamaha 300 watt PA system is certainly gig worthy, and the bright orange LED is a gift from heaven. Overall better acoustic paino sounds than my Yamaha PRS Series, although you can't edit anything such as octave up or down, and extra effects are almost non-existant. However, the stock sounds stand up on their own, for basic paino and organ. Many other excellent sounds as well... electric paino, flute, and sax. It's also light weight for transporting, which is important to me. Good enough for a gigging musician, and well worth the price.

Comments about Casio WK-200 76-Key Digital Keyboard Workstation:

don't get me wrong i love the keyboard, i am able to do a lot of things on it i wasnt able to do with my old keyboard, just be aware that after about 2-3 months of using it the keys will no longer be that nice smooth press, they will begin to click whenever played and not so smooth anymore, i had to get used to it like that because it was affecting my playing, other than that its good!

pretty awesome/cheesy/fun keyboard

By Daniel Mantyla

from Kansas

Comments about Casio WK-200 76-Key Digital Keyboard Workstation:

Overall this is an awesome keyboard at an awesome price. You're not going to hear it on the pop charts or anything, but it's perfect for just exploring and learning in your basement. Although I wish it had a few more features, theres more than enough to provide months of enjoyment.
First I want to say that I've had this keyboard workstation now for about a month and I play in maybe an hour a day. It's just really fun, but there is a lot I haven't even explored yet.

it's not a full feature work station, but it's not totally lacking either.

features I enjoy:the build in rhythems, theres hundreds of them, they are great. most are really cheesy but that's half the funthe tones are actually very goodthe user interface, all the buttons and navigation, is not half bad
features I have yet to figure out:layering of the tone (as well as split and arpegio), actually works! though I have yet to figure out how to modify it from the default settingrecording/looping/sampling, theres a learning curve there and maybe someday I'll master itthe lessons. I tried once and it didn't make any sense to me
missing featuresmod/pitch wheels, that would be nicevolume control of tone, seperate from master volume. this I really wish it hadbetter synth sounds. If you can make cool music with the synth sounds, then that would be amazingbetter tone control, such as adjusing attach, delay, etc.
I'm not complaining, just saying its missing a few things
yes, it's a big piece of plastic probably made in china somewhere, but overall it feels real solid and well built. the buttons are nice and the keys are not super ghetto. it's been a month of solid use and they haven't started "clicking" yet.
This is a value keyboard/workstation, that's what it is. I actually got this for the stupid deal of the day. Best money I ever spent!

Comments about Casio WK-200 76-Key Digital Keyboard Workstation:

I play bass but wanted to learn some keyboard. It is reasonably easy to use, and has good features for a beginner. The display shows what note you are hitting in bass/treble clef and which note relative to middle C you are hitting (I found this useful). Metronome is good, and the built in songs are fun to play with. There are learning programs but I haven't used them yet. For the money you can't beat it. I was cautious about it being a restock, but it looks the same as new. Just be sure to buy the ac adapter.

Comments about Casio WK-200 76-Key Digital Keyboard Workstation:

Beware, this keyboard does not come with an AC adapter! Seems kind of silly that it doesn't. Anyway, besides that little hiccup, the keyboard is great for its price: the keyboard is solidly built, and the keys are heavy but responsive. The features are incredible for the price range. Just be sure to buy the adapter along with it.

I did a lot of research before I bought this keyboard. I wanted something with at least 76 keys and with keys that didn't feel flimsy. This was it! It's features beat out anything within it's price range. It has semi-weighted keys and feels a lot better than many keyboards out there. My only complaint is the lack of a transpose button.
