Comments about CME UF 80 Classic MIDI Controller:
This is not a "state of the art" product in my opinion, but it does the job in my hobby home studio. I am not a skilled or educated piano player, so I can really not say anything qualified about the keyboard itself, but the weighted keys feels good. You normally get what you pay for - and this is a good example. If you demand quality, and have the bucks - you will probably wish to go for something more exclusive.
This is not something you go for if your technical skills and knowledge is below average, as the documentation and support is poor. I use Ableton Live, and had hoped for ready made midimapping, but had to set up the most myself. When this is said, things works ok after some tweeking and twisting. It does what I expect it to do. I have not tried the expansion modules, but might have a go If I need to bring it out of the studio - however - with it's more than 20kg's it will likely remain at my desk...
The keyboard feels good. I have an "eastern Europe feel" for the rest - it is built like a tank - heavy and solid. But that did not prevent a transportation damage. The plastic end-cap at one side was broken. In my eyes this was related to the poor original emballation - isopore and too week boxing.
As i mentioned above I had to do some tweaking to fit it to my use - i.e. is the fabric settings for velocity not good - you really have to strike the keys to get the action you want.
I feel I have got what I wanted for the amount of money I put into this deal.
If it had been a more expencive keyboard, I would probably had it returned due to the transportation damage, but I dont care. It does the job, and when I get rich, I will probably get me an exclusive state of the art master keyboard with a well designed control surface. I like the track that Akai is into, but dont have the money.
