Comments about Dave Smith Instruments Mopho Keyboard Synth:
I compared this with the other affordable analog on the market, Moog Little Phatty, and this just offered so much more bang for your buck. This has more features than the Moog, at $300 less! As soon as got it home I plugged it into my guitar amp and was stunned at how amazing it sounds. I then bought a good keyboard amp and I am now beyond hooked. True analog, this is the real deal!
Comments about Dave Smith Instruments Mopho Keyboard Synth:
I have been in the market for a monophonic analog synth (to replace my Micron) for some time. It seemed the only choices were the Moog Little Phatty, and the DSI Evolver. While I think both of these are excellent synths, I thought the Moog was a bit overpriced compared to other synths in the same price range. Likewise, I thought the Evolver was a fantastic value, but I found the interface to be a bit clunky compared to the Moog. Then... along came the Mopho... at first, I dismissed it because it did not have 37 keys... then I played one. I was immediately smitten. So much so, that I bought it on the spot. I don't regret it at all!
This tiny little board is loaded with features! The sound of it is pure analog goodness! The sub oscillators sound great, the action is smooth, the presets are fantastic, I love the layout of the controls, and the filters are amazing. Upon playing with the Mopho, I found it to be immediately intuitive. All the knobs are in the natural places. The only thing I don't like is the way you have to press the program button to get back to the sound banks after editing a parameter. It's not a big deal, but I wish it would switch back to the sound bank after a few seconds like my Roland synths. BTW... the Poly Chain feature is AWESOME!!!!!!!!
This thing appears to be built very solid. I love the feel of the action on the keys, especially the aftertouch. The mod/pitch wheels are very smooth as well. All the of encoders and pots turn without trouble and seem like they could take some abuse. DSI's support is fantastic as well. I contacted them about a few questions I had and recieved responses in less than an hour. I really have no compalints about the quality.
I really don't think you can touch the Mopho for the price. The only competition it really has is Arturia's Minibrute. However, if you buy a Mopho keyboard AND a Mopho module, that will set you back about $1250. Then you can Poly Chain them and have a DUOphonic 100% analog synth that absolutely kills! To put that in prespective... it's less than the price of a Moog Little Phatty and 10 lbs. lighter but doulbe the voices. Isn't that a no brainer?
Comments about Dave Smith Instruments Mopho Keyboard Synth:
This is a really nice little monster. It's sturdy, well-made and fun to play. The knobs are all there to allow you easy access to real-time tweaking. I play the mopho in a completely different way than I do my VA synths. The basses are amazing, and you can get a nice gritty sound by adding feedback. I actually chose this over the Moog Slim Phatty. I liked that it had more LFOs and more knobs. I'm sure the Moog filter is still supreme, but I'm very happy with my purchase. It's fun to turn this thing on and just tweak.

I would recommend this synth for someone exploring analog synths as well as experienced users alike. This product was designed by the father of MIDI, enough said! Add the Moogerfooger FreqBox with an expression pedal and you will go NUTS!

This keyboard is build like a tank in USA. I wish the knobs were the same ones they use on the Tetr4 or the Prophet but I guess this is why the price is much more accessible.
I had other synths before buying this one such as the Moog Slim Phatty and the DSI Tetra... to me this is by far the best value 100 Analog synth in its price range!
Comments about Dave Smith Instruments Mopho Keyboard Synth:
The Mopho keyboard is one of the finest sounding and feeling synthesizers on the market today. The fact that it is analog means that it sounds fat and can be dirty or extremely clean. After touch is a nice addition along with the available parameters. I love keyboards that actually include knobs. Most new synths nowadays only include three or four knobs, but the Mopho is decked out, and the sub-oscillators sound great! they really add a punch to the sound. People say that it doesn't sound as good as a Moog, but i say it just sounds different. Moog and Dave Smith both make amazing synthesizers! This synth truly is a predecessor of the prophet!
Comments about Dave Smith Instruments Mopho Keyboard Synth:
I hate to see something going up 100 bucks in price just because they start to sell. This is a great little synth but it has some quirks and you should ck the dave smith forum before buying this and the tetra have the need for a os update to fix midi issues. A lot of the presets sound the same and could have used a real sound designer instead of whoever programmed them but you aren't buying a analog synth for the presets are you? Even so its nice to have points of ref of what a real sound wiz can get out of the machine,if you are contemplating this or the tetra I would have a listen first because the tetras combos (4 mophos layered) presets sound great, better than great they kik analog ass, the ones that are on go, but no sound designer there either. 4 layered mophos will kik your butt though.I own both, the tetra I use mostly. Its got a whole world in it thats yet to be unlocked by anyone.
