OVERVIEW

The power, tradition and soul of a B-3 in a super portable package.

The Hammond Sk1 weighs just 15 pounds, and is the first Hammond portable to feature a wide range of Extra Voices. The "Drawbar" section is a complete Hammond Organ with all the traditional features: Real Mechanical Drawbars, Chorus Vibrato, Touch-Response Percussion, and the most authentic Digital Leslie Hammond has ever offered. "Vx" and "Farf" combo organ models are also available, as well as an assortment of fine classical Pipe Organ voices derived from their 935 Church Organ. Acoustic and Electric Pianos, Clavs, Accordions, Vintage String Synth, Wind Instruments and Tuned Percussion round out the sound selection though you can download more via the USB port. The Sk1 also has a MP3 Music Player and a new-generation "Digital Leslie" that gives the big speaker a run for the money.

      Comments about Hammond Sk1 Organ:

I bought the SK1 for my kids for Christmas. I wanted them to know the great sound of the Hammond. I may not be an organist (yet) but I am an embedded computer engineer and can smell digital junk very quickly.

I am impressed with the configurability of the tone, starting with the organ type, adding the draw bar tones, percussion effects, Leslie effects and then sending it all through an equalizer. You can shape the tone in every dimension imaginable via a menuing system that is less than perfect but you're after the tone in the end so you kinda get used to it. Also the ability to add a lower manual, pedals, and a real Leslie makes it very easy to upgrade.

I have to bust Suzuki for the lame, crummy, El-cheapo flat square buttons they used for some of the options and effects on the console. They don't even sit flat and feel like they belong on a cheap disposable kid's toy and give the whole unit (other than the keyboard and sound) a very cheap feel. If I had seen this in a showroom and compared it to other keyboards based on aesthetics a good sales guy could've persuaded me to buy a Roland. However, I was after the sound and I think Suzuki knew that when they decided to cut 15cents off the cost of each button.

That said, the portability is incredible, you can't take a B3 with you in an RV, set it on your lap with headphones on and play for hours! The 61 key model real is a take anywhere, play anywhere keyboard.

Looking forward to hooking up a real Leslie. Now all I need is a poster of Jimmy Smith to pin above it!

        Comments about Hammond Sk1 Organ:

It needs a hook up for my Leslie 122 speaker cab.
Not a 8 pin jack I have never seen before
Maybe a adapter for 8 pin to 6 pin not to 1/4 in. Plug

Fun to play a real Hammond. Not vintage in any way but authentic in most audible ways and as close as it gets in feel and playability.

The REAL DEAL! This is the authentic B-3 sound and it only weighs in at 15.5 lbs (not 400 lbs / not including the flight case!)
Finally the authentic Hammond vibe in a portable package. It has very usable extra voices to complement your rig. I use it on top of my Kawai MP-6 and they complement each other nicely!

I just received the SK1 2 days ago, still in the learning mode. I added this Hammond to my 2 Yamaha keyboards, I love the full Hammond sound. I am a retired keyboard player. I wish I had this keyboard when I was playing in my band......

I am so thrilled to finally have the authentic Hammond organ sound I've always dreamed of. The band went crazy when I showed up with the SK1 under my arm last week. The Leslie effect is amazing and when I kicked in a little distortion and percussion they went wild. I've always played at least two keyboards in my setup over the years. Last weekend, I only took the SK1 and it was a smashing success! I'm ready to start selling all my other keyboards.

                    Comments about Hammond Sk1 Organ:

First of all, as you've probably heard, this organ has an incredible tonewheel Hammond sound (actually the sounds of a few Hammonds ranging from a new B3 on the showroom floor in 1958 to a beat-up warhorse that's played every bar and roadhouse in the state for the past 45 years). The Hammond sounds are rich and creamy with incredible percussion and C/V effects. It also has the sounds of a Vox Continental and Super Continental and a Farfisa Combo Compact - all awesome combo organs from the '60's, and these sounds are incredible and all the original controls of those organs are there and they work just like they should. Then there's a couple electric pianos, a Clavinet, an acoustic piano - these may not be the best in the world, but they could be very useful in a live band setting. Then there are tons of samples of all kinds of things that might come in handy (strings, vocals, etc). I don'at use that stuff much so I can't really say how good they are. Then there's some nice reverbs and delays, a Leslie sim that can be programmed to be pretty good (but the organ sounds much better through a really good sim or the real thing). And the whole thing is tiny and weighs close to nothing - you can carry it with one hand and toss it in the back seat of your car without missing a beat. It feels solid and looks cool with its burgundy sparkle end pieces!
