Comments about Kawai KDP90 Digital Piano:

Bought this for my wife as an intermediate instrument upgrade while she learns keyboards. Did not buy the musicans friend additional warranty, relying instead on the factory warranty. After a few weeks some of the keys quit working. Now fully half of them do not respond. Called Kawai tech support & had a tech listen as we called out the keys that played & did not. He claimed to know the cause of the malfunction & would have someone contact us. That was weeks ago & we are now going to have to escalate the issue.

Comments about Kawai KDP90 Digital Piano:

I bought a KDP90 two years ago as a serious investment after a few months of learning on a beginner keyboard. I live in a volume-sensitive apartment building so I can't use a real piano, but love aesthetic of a real piano, and I'm turned off by models that have a hundred buttons and a light-up display. This is a bit smaller than a console piano and assembles a little bit like a furniture piece, but it feels and looks like sitting at a real piano when you're playing and has more of the classic look of a piano in your home vs. a keyboard on a stand.

The sound is very good and it has four different piano models to choose from, as well as electric pianos and organs and a few other samples. It sounds great through the built-in speakers as well as through headphones. Another useful feature of this is being able to adjust the pitch of the whole thing up or down, if you are playing with a recording that for whatever reason is not in standard pitch. The MIDI-out works fine and I use that with Garageband with no problems.

This is a great tool for learning to play if you can't use a real piano or don't want to deal with tuning issues, and I am now comfortable any time I play a real piano. I should mention that although the KDP90 sounds great and its samples are very usable, whenever I play a real piano it feels much more "alive" than this, and I always prefer the sound of the real thing as long as it's in tune and plays well.

I've had it for two years and never had a problem. It feels and looks great and the finish is durable, not a scratch on it. Absolutely no regrets with this piano.
