Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments QuNexus Smart Sensor Keyboard Controller:

I replaced a Qx25 with the QuNexus, and I'm pretty happy with it. I compose and perform ambient and experimental music, and with this controller I can run my VST instruments and effects from a single controller.

The good: AMAZINGLY powerful. With tilt, pressure, and velocity I can control several parts of my soft synths and effect at once. Great for playing tracks in and getting some feel into them.

The bad: out of the box presets needed some tweaking, especially on pressure and tilt. The editor is pretty decent, though, and inside an hour I had 4 presets perfect for various purposes
(percussion, synths, toggle).

The ugly: if you don't understand MIDI well, you're going to have to learn it. For an old midiot like me, it was easy, but if you don't know the innards of MIDI you're going to suffer.

Bottom line: for electronic music, this thing rocks!

Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments QuNexus Smart Sensor Keyboard Controller:

This is probably the best portable computer-based midi controller out there. Pressure and tilt sensitivity on each key, in such a way that each note can have modulation, pitch bend and other effects independent of effects on all other notes. Also, this board, by basically being made up of drum pads, is much more well suited to keyboard drumming.

However, buyer beware. When an octave key is pressed, the shift occurs immediately, not on the next note pressed. So if you currently have a note pressed and press the octave up button, that note will switch to the next octave up. Every other controller I know does not change notes that are already playing when the octave key is pressed. This is difficult for performance.

Also, by their own admission, the master pitch bend button as well as the tilt controllers on each button are unreliable.

Overall, I really like this piece, and I find the pressure sensitivity exciting enough to keep it, but many of its features don't quite seem ready for prime time. The octave button issue is particularly crippling.
