Controls your computer music software in production or performance

The microKEY is slim, lightweight, USB powered and compatible with all of your computer music software; use it to create your own compact and customized command center.

Natural Touch mini keyboard
The microKEY features 37 velocity-sensing mini keys, using the same Natural Touch keybed found on the Korg microKORG XL and microSTATION. This keybed has been designed with careful attention to the touch and feel. The proportions of the black keys and white "waterfall" keys have been adjusted for optimal playability, and the key touch makes it easy to play chords, glissandos, and rapid-fire phrases. The microKEY accurately conveys the dynamics of your performance to any software plug in.

Extended Range and Expression
The Octave Shift buttons extend the range of the microKEY by four octaves in either direction – up or down. The Key Transpose allows you to play in any key instantly. Used together, these two features provide access to the entire MIDI note range. For adding tasty expression to your performance, the microKEY is also equipped with both a Pitch Bend wheel and a Modulation wheel.

USB versatility
Your new microKEY serves double-duty as a USB hub. The two USB ports (Type A) allow you to expand your custom control center by adding on a Korg nanoPAD or nanoKONTROL – or any other USB device!

Free Editing Software
Download the free "KORG KONTROL Editor" and customize the microKEY for your production or performance system. Using the editor software, you can set the keyboard to respond to one of eight distinct velocity curves, or set a fixed velocity value. In addition, the range of the modulation wheel can be customized by setting minimum and maximum control change values.KORG KONTROL Editor can be downloaded from the Support section of the Korg website.

Convenient, difficult to play - keys too small

| Review By: Brian Jepperson | 10 months, 20 hours ago

Features:

There isn't much to say here.  Although I do like that it has two mod wheels and features of USB hub of sorts.

Quality:

I own a piano, and roland keyboard, and I've owned an M-Audio controller keyboard.  To me, the MicroKey by comparison feels cheap and pasticy, and the keys don't have the response that I've come to expect.

Value:

I think the cheaper M-Audio controllers are a better value and more useful overall, and more expensive keyboards will be higher quality, so I don't think this is a good choice either way in terms of value.

Overall:

I've only had this a short time, and I wanted to use this just as a  secondary and convenient midi controller that I keep next to my keyboard  for quick things.  But for me the biggest problem is that the keys are  too small.  Specifically they are too short.  Maybe 1/2 the length of a  "normal" piano key, and problem also have the width.  The feel is just  way "wrong", even for a portable.

Today arrived my MicroKEY and I have to say first of all, its a solid piece of equipment. Well built, great feel to the keys  and  the drivers and software are amazingly stable. Korg keeps their stuff up to date so problems with such are non existant. Unless tomorrow magically stopped working I have to agree that this is probably the best MIDI for the money. I have owned a few others, never from Korg, till this one, and trust me they dont feel as well built as this one.

Be aware that the keys are small. But once you get used to it, its very pleasing to play. It's probably easyer than usual, since the keys are closer togheter. Also it was easy to set it up on my mac. Also, it beeing only 3 octaves may be disapointing at some times. But its probably worth it for it's size and practicality.

This board is quite good. It's not quite small enough to fit in my  backpack, but it's still very light and portable. I use it with Logic Express, and the included software titles are good, too. It seems sturdy enough and the controls are laid out well. A keeper, for sure.

If you want a small midi keyboard that is actually usuful, I recommend this one. I've had Akai LPK25 and Korg nonoKey, and those are piece of ^*&%. Those bad ones do Not had enough keys, have bad key stroke feeling, and are hard to control the velocities. But this microKey is different. It's just better than those portable midi keyboards.
