Many famous artists use this keyboard for a good reason. Endless sound creation, easy to pick up on, unbeatable price, portable, lightweight, great interface, perfect for learning, overall FUN and an amazing instrument you won't regret buying from MusiciansFriend.
128 presets, Arpeggiator 8-band vocoder, MIDI controller capabilites, and over 100 parameters for you to control in real time this synth packs everything you need for a beginner or intermediate level keyboard.
It may appear toyish to some musicians however when it comes down to it this is a synth that you will have for a long time. The mini keys may throw off traditional piano players but within a couple days I was rather comfortable with the keybed. The sound quality is amazing near the same level as the more expensive synthesizers.
For the price this synth is great, if it's your first synthesizer then I highly reccomend it over it's competition the micron and xiosynth for MicroKORG is very easy to use and you can pick up on it very quickly.

Before I get chastised for saying you need an engineering degree to figure out how to use this thing, let me preface by saying I'm a musician (i.e. the kind that plays actual instruments), so for my newness to the synth world, the MicroKorg will take a while to figure out. I mainly bought it to have some cool sounds/patches to layer into some of my recordings. I am not versed in MIDI or electronic music...at all. It took 2 hours and finally 2 tutorials just to figure the metronome out, so if you are a synth novice, I am thinking there might be easier pieces of equipment to use?

I do hope I can manage to wrangle my way around this thing because it seems to have a lot of cool capabilities. Most likely I will never need nor use half of them, but the half I do want to employ will be difficult to figure out, even with the instruction manual (which is nearly useless).

Pretty sweet, i love all the pre-sets, and the fact that theyre all completely customizable makes it so much better. It has everything i need, or anyone else. Great starter keyboard if thats what youre getting it for, and great for and experienced pianist. Comes fully loaded, great buy!
i feel it could have a more "heavy duty" feel, instead of the plastic thing it has going on. I like the wood on the sides though and the vintage look. All the sounds i get out of it sound great.
Great value.

      Comments about MicroKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder:

Wow. I did a lot of research on this item and am blown away even more than I was with the sounds I heard on youtube. This thing is unbelievably cool and great. The amount of tweaking and manipulating of parameters is amazing. The stock sounds themselves are incredibly cool (and there are A LOT of them) but the fact that you can manipulate all of them VERY easily is like getting two, three, or twenty keyboards in one. I was also shocked at how small it was. I knew it was small, with smaller keys, but it's even smaller than I thought it would be. So light and portable. And the small keys work really well, and don't affect playing at all. Sometimes, it makes it even better when doing certain runs depending on the sound you're using. Overall, if you're looking for a retro (and modern) sounding keyboard with tons of great sounds that are totally manipulatable on the fly, in real time, you will be beyond happy with this little monster.

Excellent micro synth for it's presets

      By Anonymous

      Comments about MicroKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder:

I have experimented with many synthesizers and vsts overs the years and strongly believe that the original micro Korg is an intelligent decision if you are looking for a high variety of preset sounds. The synth is also very easy to program arp sounds to tempo as long as you read the manual about it. In my opinion it is one of the most reliable portable synths available and far better than settling for a smaller midi controller in the end.

Unique Element for a Solo Project

      By Zedonek

      from Pittsburgh, PA

      See all my reviews

      Comments about MicroKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder:

I'd been playing with a band and we had a large sound. I started a solo project and am not a very good bass player, but, given time, can figure my way around a keyboard well enough. This was a great investment for my solo project because I could get very unique sounding "bass-lines" from this little man. Many of the settings have a straight-edge sound, (in regards to how quickly the attack works and that the notes do not always slide into one-another) which gives it a synthetic, yes, but desirable sound for what, at least I'd been gong for. MGNT comes to mind, but there are many more applications than just that particular sound that are attainable through this machine. Look into it, worth the price... ten-fold.

i own this thing, and its so fun. You'd really have to be mentally slow to not figure things out after a bit of reading, and to create my own music on it comes with ease. i like that it's only a 37 key, it makes learning really fun and easy also. plus this synth comes from a top-line production company, and im confident it wont need to be replaced.

      Comments about MicroKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder:

I got this synth like 2 years ago, and i use it almost every day! its got great presets, and its pretty easy to make new patches! It does sound almost analog, and the wood on the sides was a nice touch. Good for leads and sound effects. The preset basses arent on the fat side... but hey, thats an easy fix. The little keys take a little getting used to, so you might want to hook up a midi controller. the arpeggiator is pretty nice too. overall the best synth you can get in this price range

As a bassist-guitarist in an ambient improv trio, I needed a keyboard for a non piano player. This works well.

      Simple. Online tutorials galore.

Rich sounds. Enough mod and pitch wheel and resonance control to create swell ambience.

My teenage son and his classmates love it. We are improvising together in a way that was never before possible.

Using a G-K bass amp, Ultimate stand.

      Comments about MicroKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder:

This is a great tool. It has all the convience of digital synth, with all the cool parts of analog synth. After you learn how to properly use it, it has soooo many uses that it is almost overwhelming. Plus, after you download the patches from the german korg site, the possibilities are endless! If only it was bigger...

      Comments about MicroKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder:

This is a totally excellent synthesizer. I'm not a pianist but I do compose so it's nice to have this as well as a piano to write on. The amount of sounds you can get from this guy is outstanding, but my only complaint is that you can't build programs completely from the ground up like you have to on a modular synthesizer. I guess the upside to that is no patching! It really is great.

Good synth but could be better

      By Nikolai-.yxDu

      from RVA

      Comments about MicroKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder:

Overall, I love this synth, despite it's shortcomings. It lacks in some areas, such as a 4 note polyphony (would?ve been better if there were 8 voices, especially for unison mode), and that oscillator 2 only has 3 waveforms (saw, square, triangle). I also wish there were more than 3 effects (Flanger, Ensemble, and Phaser). I also wish the level of distortion wasn't dependent on the oscillator outputs. It is capable of some fat sounds but sounds a tad thin at times. If you are new to synthesis this is a good learning synth to start with. I use it to make distorted leads and basses, as well as processed noise and sound effects. The virtual patches add a new dimension to your sounds, once you learn to use them you will be hooked. Remember, this is a synthesizer. It's designed to create sounds from simple waveforms and you'll have to learn to make sounds from scratch. I?d reccomend you compare it to other synths before you decide to buy it.

      Comments about MicroKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder:

Don't get me wrong. It does come with some pretty sweet sounds, and plenty of different patches to twist things the way you want them. A lot of the sounds, are useless however. And My biggest grudge with this thing is the tempo adjust. It's a freakin knob. Why not tap? this makes the keyboard totally useless in combination with most other programming software. But otherwise, it's an ok keyboard.

          Comments about MicroKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder:

This synth is a great value. It is very simple to work with once you know the basics. Read the manual; it's pretty clear about working with this machine. The keys are small, as many have pointed out, but this will likely only be an issue for those with very large hands or experienced keyboard players. As a string player myself, the transition was not an issue. It has a variety of sounds built in, and it's easy to both modify presets and start from scratch. The included mic is fine for playing around with and getting used to the vocoder, but I don't think I'd use it live. The wood ends are a plus. It has the capacity to process external instruments and vocals, but I have not used this feature yet. All in all, a good purchase.

          Comments about MicroKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder:

It is great for making original lead parts. It has MIDI in/out/thru and multiple lead/mic inputs with tiny volume control knobs for each one on the back... Cool. You can create big sounds and little sounds, depending how much time you put into making your patches. The arp. is a cool tool, if you use MIDI to clock it to your freaking song... I find the tempo knob useless, I don't manually clock the tempo. The manual kinda teaches you synthesis in general. I didn't know what cross-modulation was until I performed it textbook style from the instructions. Now I can make whatever the heck I need. The board sounds sweet. Also look at the Korg EMX. It will replace your entire band. Its FL Studio in a box, I'm telling you.Get a MicroKorg. The price is right.

I got this for Christmas just to play around with. It's a lot of fun when I'm just sitting in my room, and maybe I'll get to know how to really use it enough to incorporate it into my band somehow. I just wish I could get a normal piano sound out of it though, but I guess it's not really intended for that. It's a very good synth, especially for the price. Its only too complicated for me because I have no prior experience with synths.

          Comments about MicroKORG Synthesizer/Vocoder:

I have had this baby for over a year now and have just barely gotten into everything its capable of. Look no further if you just want an entry level synth, or if you want something professional to record with.To start out, the microKorg, despite the rather cheap construction, is NOT a toy. The knobs for mine fell off pretty quickly but that was nothing a little super glue couldn't fix. The keys are very small but if you run this thing through any midi controller than it instantly becomes the perfect synthesizer. The sound quality is amazing, there can be clicks due to aliasing but they are usually not noticeable. There are many decent presets (128 in all) but you can rewrite any one of them (there's plenty trust me) once you want to make your own sounds. The vocoder is another amazing feature, some people don't realize it can process any instrument, so think of the microkorg as the ultimate guitar/bass effects box! A little fooling around will get you exactly the sound you want, as long as you read the booklet.Overall this is an outstanding synth for the price as long as you invest in a midi controller, great job Korg!
