OVERVIEW

Fully programmable analog monophonic synthesizer with 25 slim keys.

The monologue by Korg is a programmable analog monophonic synthesizer that shares the sleek layout, knob-per-function workflow and high-quality construction of the best-selling minilogue. monologue is a new synth for all types of musicians; rock keyboard players appreciate its sine, saw and square wave leads and EDM producers will find its bass patches attractive for recording and shows.

A Fully Programmable Analog Synth
monologue gives you knob-per-function programmability, so you can create everything from crushing basses to crisp leads and complex rhythmic soundscapes quickly and easily. Even better, monologue has 100 program locations (80 preset + 20 user), a first for an analog keyboard in this price range. Each location can also retain its own 16-step sequence, including motion sequence automation.

A New Voice Above the Crowd
monologue’s engine starts with the same ground-up synthesis design that made the Korg minilogue famous, and adds features focused on amazing monophonic sounds. A new 2-pole VCF provides added bite, and a new analog Drive circuit delivers further punch and richness. The LFO has expanded control capabilities as well; with higher rates for deeper modulation possibilities.

Step Sequencing, Stepped-Up
monologue offers a powerful 16-step sequencer with a dedicated button per step for added ease of editing. It features motion sequencing with editing and the ability to “lock” parameters with individual steps. The sequencer also offers on-the-fly transposition via key triggering. All of these powerful new features can be used together to create complex, musical, and deeply dialed-in patterns.

In addition to 5-pin In/Out and USB MIDI, monologue includes Audio Sync connectivity which allows it to play in time and integrate seamlessly with Korg volcas, electribes, minilogue and SQ-1. Use the monologue with your DAW as both a USB MIDI controller or a versatile analog voice. Send clock over USB and use Audio Sync to chain monologue’s clock to other Audio Sync-equipped products.

The Key of “E”
monologue features a 25-key version of the same great-feeling key bed as minilogue, but instead of traditional C to C octaves, monologue is laid out E to E, so those low bass notes are always there! With a low E at your fingertips, guitarists and bassists will feel at home adding monologue to their live rig to expand their sound palettes.

A Build Quality to Rival its Sound Quality
monologue features the same rugged, high-quality build and standout looks as minilogue. Plus, there are five vibrant colors to choose from: silver, black, red, blue, and gold. The gorgeous curved aluminum top panel is married with chassis-mounted, rubber coated potentiometers for a look and feel that is substantial. The rear panel dons a real wood panel to bring add vintage feel to its ultra-contemporary design.

To round out the interface, you’ll find a helpful, clear OLED display with a real working oscilloscope that lets you “see” your sound. This display is unique to Korg’s latest analog models, and is as fun and educational as it is informative. monologue’s display calls up parameters as you tweak, making it easy to understand the potential of this powerful little synth.

Little synth with a BIG sound

Comments about Korg monologue Monophonic Analog Synthesizer:

Huge analog synth sound in a compact battery powered casing. The knobs and keys feel sunstantial. The sequencer is a killer arpeggiator essentially. The distortion and filter on this thing are killer. Tons of bite and brutality unlike a worthy competitor, The Novation Bass Station II - although, a couple of monologues with a Bass Station II would be a great setup. The bass station is super smooth and good for huge, solid center sounds. The Monologue is a squawker with snarl, but "thicker" and "synthier" sounding than a 303 emulator type box. It's quite an amazing little beast. I'll probably get another for true stereo action. If you have a good analog bass machine, having a pair of Monologues wailing different sequences left, right and center would slay it

Amazing monophonic sounds

Comments about Korg monologue Monophonic Analog Synthesizer:

Since nobody has yet commented, I wanted to comment regarding the physical appearance of the blue unit because before purchasing, I was curious whether the T5 screws on the front fascia was silver or black (as the pictures shows both; and I was hoping it would be black so that the screws don't stand out). The one I received comes with black bolts - so it matches the black knobs, etc. The unit also doesn't come with an AC adapter and I wasn't able to power it on through USB - something I didn't realize as both of my Akai's gets its power through the USB. So I highly recommend getting a Korg 9V AC adapter because good AA batteries aren't cheap....and you need 6 of them each time. The one I ordered is the Korg Volca AC Adapter and it ran me thirteen USD with shipping from another reputable retailer.

As for the synthesizer, I'm extremely happy with mine - build quality and aesthetics are top notch! The metal faceplate, wood backing, textures on knobs, etc are all premium! Doesn't feel cheap like my full-plastic Akai keyboard! All of the built-in sounds sound amazing and I'm having lots of fun tinkering with the sounds.

My only qualm with the unit is the USB port. When plugging in a USB cable, the port seems kinda wobbly - I'm worried that it'll get loose over time and that I might have to end up opening it up in the future to re-solder it or something. Both of my Akai's USB ports are rock-solid.

Fun monosynth

By Brian

from MN

Verified Buyer

Comments about Korg monologue Monophonic Analog Synthesizer:

Hobbiest user. I bought this to have an analog monosynth to use as a controller for other software gear and have a second keyboard that I can use with my laptop when traveling. (My main keyboard is a Korg Radias which is a surprisingly deep VA poly synth).

I did buy the powersupply (same unit as the Volcas use) but before that I did play around with the monologue with batteries and headphones and that is a recipe for hours of fun. Monologue is definitely capable of powerful leads and deep, punchy, squelchy basses (all adjectives regarding bass are covered) and of course the syrupy squelchyMotion sequencing can yield nice results quickly. Easy to dial up drum like sounds as well with the fast LFO and noise and drive.

Read the manual because of the small footprint not everything has a knob. There are a few things hidden behind menus and button combos (glide settings, accent, slide etc...)

Cons - not many. Third OSC, another more complex envelopes, LFO would be nice but that misses the point of the Monologue... which is getting max results with minimal complexity. And Korg succeeded with this synth.

Great synthat a reasonable price. Loads of fun!

Comments about Korg monologue Monophonic Analog Synthesizer:

I wanted to try an analog synth because all I normally use are vsts. We make industrial music and so far it has some pretty gritty sounds. It's sort of like a modular unit in a box if you look at how it's laid out
