OVERVIEW

Extremely compact and slim-line drum pad MIDI controller.

Like all nanoSERIES2 controllers, the nanoPAD2 had to be compact, lightweight and sized to work well with any laptop or desktop computer. In addition, the nanoPAD2 also had to pack in 16 great-feeling and dynamic-sensing pads - as well as leaving room for the X-Y touchpad! The Korg nanoPAD2 does all this and more. In fact, there are four banks of pad assignments, providing a total of 64 pad assignments.

Dynamic trigger pads capture all your performance nuances
The sixteen velocity-sensitive pads provide excellent response to your fingertips, and also realistically convey the playing feel to your sequencer or DAW software, ensuring that your drum parts will be full of life. By switching between the four scenes, you can experience 64 different pad assignments.

Create musical phrases using the X-Y touchpad, Touch Scale, and Gate Arp features
The X-Y pad can be used to control multiple synthesizer parameters. In addition, the new "Touch Scale" function lets you intuitively play phrases on the X-Y touchpad, just as on the Kaossilator. You can choose from sixteen different scales, and specify the root key and note range to ensure that your performance stays within your song. The "Gate Arp" function, borrowed from the Kaossilator Pro, transmits note data based on tempo; Tap tempo and tempo sync are supported. Combined with the Touch Scale, the Gate Arp allows you to play tempo-synchronized phrases and rhythms simply by stroking the X-Y pad or playing the pads.

Korg Kontrol Editor software
The nanoPAD2 works with the "Korg Kontrol Editor" software - available free on the Korg website. Load it into your computer, and use it to make detailed customized settings. Choose from a total of four velocity settings: three velocity curves or fixed velocity. You can also specify note numbers, create user scales for the Touch Scale function, assign chords, assign control change messages, and save your settings.

USB power for an uncluttered setup
Just connect a single USB cable from your computer to the nanoPAD2, and you've got a quick and portable music production system. Power and USB-MIDI data travels down the same wire for a clean, efficient workspace.

Comments about Korg nanoPAD2 Slim-Line USB Drum Pad Controller:

I have only played with this for about an hour but I thought I would write a little about it while I had the chance. This thing came out swinging plug n play to my mac using garage band and Battery 3. I would have tried it with pro tools but I have to get a newer verision for my new mac to be able to do so.

Back to the point the thing is made out of plastic so as long as you don't use it as a baseball bat you should be fine. Did I mention It is small the pictures do this thing no justice. For less than a hundred bills you can't go wrong.

I needed it to be able to use Battery 3 and have triggers and more more control. It does what I needed it to do and I can pack it easily into my bag and go.

For me it was better than shelling out 2-3 times more money for something that would do what this does, and would probably buy another if this one was lost or stolen.

USB DRUM PAD CONTROL - warning !

Cons

  • Conflicts

Comments about Korg nanoPAD2 Slim-Line USB Drum Pad Controller:

Ok I like this unit ... it is a good deal for the money IF - note the IF - you know how to deal with Driver conflicts ... because the Korg drivers conflict with MANY things - esp the Apogee GIO (impossible for korg - nano pad or Kntroller - drivers to work with Gio ] . ... however the pad and or Kontroller can be controlled directly from Logic 9 so the work around is easy ... and it then works clean and exactly as you program ... just be aware that if you can not program control surfaces directly in your DAW you may have significant conflict issues .... BTW Korg doesn't even respond for questions - so you will be on your own ... but there are a lot of info in the blogs

Comments about Korg nanoPAD2 Slim-Line USB Drum Pad Controller:

    Korg NanoPad2 Controller
I have been fighting not to return this. It's not a Musicians Friend's problem, it is a Korg problem. In order to reprogram it for my app EZDrummer 2, Korg recommends installing the Korg Driver and Korg Kontrol software. BUT, their latest PC driver (as of 10-2016) is wrote for USB v1.1. Now if your computer is about 15 years old and still running Windows 95 or XP, you probably won't have a problem, BUT if you have a newer computer with USB 2.0 or 3.0, nothing works correctly. THEY ARE NOT BACKWARD COMPATIBLE! I found this out with a Line 6 software problem. So the Korg PC driver does not work correctly with a USB 2.0 port, so I reloaded the default Windows driver, still won't reprogram, software also looking for USB v1.1 and still won't work to properly store changes. How could this ever get out into the real world without someone actually testing it? Someone's sleeping while getting paid. I also have a Mac Book Pro and tried it on it, but there are problems with it also due to USB 2.0 conflicts. So this will be worthless to me until I discover a work around or Korg writes a USB 2.0 version driver and Kontrol software. I SHOULD RETURN IT- I KNOW! I recommend you DO NOT BUY until Korg rewrites this software mess. If your app has a way to change a midi CC note to another CC note, Like Blue Cat Audio's Remote Plug in, you may be able to use it as it is. Maximum hassle. Manufacturer indifference. BEWARE
