OVERVIEW

Provides a powerful array of hands-on MIDI control and includes professional drum software.

The Korg padKONTROL adds another dimension beyond traditional keyboard control for incredibly expressive and versatile pad control. In addition to accessing drum sounds and samples, the padKONTROL can also control soft synths, effects, and DAW transport controls as well as trigger loops and video clips. The MIDI controller and drum pad's assignable X-Y touchpad provides real-time, natural-sounding flams and rolls while 16 cool-to-the-touch illuminated trigger pads and assignable knobs give all the control you need.

Each of the 16 pads can be individually assigned a note number and MIDI channel, and you can choose from eight different dynamic curves as well as either MIDI or USB output for each drum pad. The display lets you know what you're doing at a glance while the illuminated pads visually groove along with your playing. You can save controller setups in one of 16 User Scenes in the padKONTROL and it includes 30 preset scenes.

The Korg padKONTROL drum pad MIDI controller also comes with free Editor/Librarian software.

Over all I give it a 4.5 . The touch pads are Quality , though it would have been nice if you could program your own light patterns. The nobs felt grity , I wouldnt expect them to be hevily used though, and they are of minor concern. The touch pad however was a huge let down. Its best compared to an "Intellivision" game controller. felt like concave molded plastic, which would inevitably break... and WAY before the quality pressure sensitive pads. No questions this is a PAD controller. It is not intended for heavy use on the xy touchpad, or nobs. But over all it is well designed for its intended use. (see utube demos) 90 % pad, 5 % xypad, 5 % nobs. Worth the money if its perscribed use is what you want... if the xypad is what has you there are better options... ie kp3 by korg. Status: returned, not fitting my use. though it is well designed for its purpose.

I bought my Korg padKONTROL a few months ago and used it in a mostly soft synth-centric studio. It integrated well with Ableton Live.I really wouldn't have any significant problems with this controller if it weren't for the commonly reported problem that hitting a pad hard can set off adjacent pads. I experienced this with my unit and read about similar experiences on various message boards. This could be rather awkward in a performance setting and was fairly annoying during my time with the unit. Also, the XY pad isn't terribly useful; it's not sensitive enough to do anything other than very basic stuff.Although the sensitivity of the pads themselves is nice, I had issues trying to do anything that required velocity sensitivity. Perhaps I'm slightly heavy-handed, but I've become inclined to try alternatives.

Good Product, with a little help

Comments about Korg padKONTROL USB MIDI Controller:

Ive been using the pK for about a year now, and have been happy with it. it works like it should, aside from the awkward initial setup( it comes with the pads set to sensitive, the notes seem to be off from the standard drum notation, and x/y pad is set up kind of weird) ive had a great time using this product. the customization is extremely limited, but there is a program called farmpad that lets you completely customize it, lights, function, everything, so i look forward to being able to use it to its full potential. if all you need it for is notes and drum pads, then it doesn't get any more stylish than this, but if you need it for controlling software, look for something with more knobs and buttons.

Good Controller

Comments about Korg padKONTROL USB MIDI Controller:

Overall this is an excellent drum controller, I use it in conjunction with Battery 3 and programming it is completely painless. The pads respond perfectly and have a very good feel. Though the build is plastic, so I wouldn't recommend dropping it, It's very reliable and worth the money.

Great MIDI Controller

Comments about Korg padKONTROL USB MIDI Controller:

I purchased the padKontrol a little over a year ago and have had nothing but fun with it. It is very easy to install and configure. I have used it with Reason mainly for Redrum under the Windows XP OS. Most recently I have used it with Hydrogen for Ubuntu Studio. The one thing it lacks that other competing drum/sample controllers have is faders which are on the Akai 24. However, these aren't absolutely necessary as there are two assignable rotary knobs along with the touch pad. The control and dynamics of the pad is excellent considering the quantized nature of MIDI controlled drum samples. It is certainly better than using keyboard piano keys for drum programming. I think it could be sold for less though.

Comments about Korg padKONTROL USB MIDI Controller:

I use a Triton Extreme 61, microKORG, KORG D16 recording studio, and Numark Turntables. i thought I had everything I needed until i got this padKontrol.. Its wicked.. Great features, easy to use, and you can create a beat for any genre and tempo, a must have for a mobile DJ or a professional music producer.. Trust me, I am very picky on what is good, and this is by far a perfect addition.

Nice Pads

By Anonymous

Comments about Korg padKONTROL USB MIDI Controller:

Despite the cheap plastic construction and very non-MPC-grade pads, this controller has served me well for drum programming as well as other uses. Highly customizable, although not very practical for live settings, this controller's achilles heel is the fact that it doesn't ship with an AC adaptor, thus making the MIDI ports useless without going through KORG to get another. This has created some frustration, as some programs won't recognise it as a USB device.

WHOA!

By trogal

Comments about Korg padKONTROL USB MIDI Controller:

It's a great controller for triggering samples as well as making beats with virtual drums sets. I use it mainly to trigger loops when I'm performing live. It's the exact same as the Trigger Finger, except with the famous Korg XY Pad built in and extremely sensitive pads. I cannot recommend this product highly enough.

Great controller!

By Atilla

Comments about Korg padKONTROL USB MIDI Controller:

I had a little trouble setting up the hardware, but other than that its very easy to get into. I use this to program drums and trigger samples. The pads are sensitive (its good that you don't have to BANG them to trigger). The x and y pad is beautiful. You can use for triggering drum rolls and flams, which makes things SO much easier, or, you can assign each parameter to an automatable control. sometimes I use the pads for synths, then I use the y pad to control the pitch bend, and I can use the x pad for filters or something! I love this thing! It's plastic like all other controllers (except the mpd 24 I think...) but I don't seem to have any problems with it. Good deal for the price. I would recommend it.
