I bought my Korg sp250 3 days ago, and have been playing it whenever I can. I'm a beginner as far as any keyboard experience, but I did a lot of research before purchasing the sp250. What I like about it is the unbelievable feel of the keyboard, it feels like an actual piano when it's played, and that to me is important. The sounds are very good, (some of course better then others), I'm mostly using the Grand piano sound from the first bank of sounds. It's also easy to layer the piano with strings or choirs, just a matter of holding down both buttons at the same time. I also like the retro look of the unit, and the stand is rock solid. The built in speakers sound great, with fair volume. To turn off the speakers is decidedly different, you need to just plug in a 1/4 inch jack, or plug in headphones, no off/on switch unfortunately. Of course you'd only do this if you were hooking the unit up to a p.a. or powered speakers. The weight I think is about 40 lbs. All in all a good deal, I'd looked at the m-audio pro keys, but the keys did not feel anything at all like a real piano, among other negatives. I looked at some Roland's, and Yamaha's which were also good, but to get such a complete unit for the price, with such good action sold me on the sp250.

I purchased this keybaord without hearing it.. just expecting Korg's excellence (I have Korg C5000 and a X5D both of I would give 10's). All but one of the acoustic piano sounds have very distinct "digital electronic" sound. The harpsichord sounds all hurt my ears and the choir and string sounds are weak. The electonic piano sounds are very nice. The keyboard feel is great also. The interface is very easy to use also. I'm very thankful for this site's 45 day return policy.

Comments about Korg SP-250 88-Key Portable Digital Piano:
Highly recommended for anyone wanting a digital piano that has great sounds, a very nice weighted keyboard and intuitive controls that get you where you want to go quickly. I am using this board to get back into playing again after many years hiatus. I am perfectly happy with this purchase from Musician's Friend and this product.
Weighted keyboard is probably about as good as it gets for a portable, especially in this price range. Getting around to change sounds or to layer two voices is easy and intuitive.
Quality is good for a mid-ranged board, or for any portable keyboard. Stand is very sturdy and the overall construction seems road worthy, although a hard case is definitely recommended. It's over 40 lbs. (less stand) so maybe not the most portable board around but in my opinion its testimony to its beefy construction.
I did some homework before I made this purchase and I give it the higest rating for value. I think for the design, ease-of-use, weighted keyboard and sounds you can't do any better in this price range.

I am very pleased with this instrument. I can do a lot more with this than just your "basic" keyboard. I am now capable of storing many sounds with my MIDI controllers, and now can go back, and easily just change the sound with a touch of a button! It is a keyboard, synthesizer, a workstation, and a computer all in one! I am very pleased, and the sounds are amazing. I really have no complaints. I was worried at first about the keys not feeling so comfortable, but now the new key pad touch really solved that. Overall, I think this is a great keyboard, very cheap for it's quality (Honestly, I'd expect it to be about $1,500 - $2,000 based on what you can do). I highly recommend this instrument.
Comments about Korg SP-250 88-Key Portable Digital Piano:
I was and still am on the market for a digital piano. Over the past few weeks, I have looked at a number of them, incl. two Korg models - SP-170 and SP-250. Rather surprisingly, while I am not a professional musician but easily noticed that the 250 model offers very good sounds, its keys were less comfortable than I expected. In particular, when moving from one chord to another with my left hand, I oftentimes found 1 or 2 of my fingers rubbing noticeably against the front edges (especially the front corner edges) of the keys, which felt in a sense sharp (definitely sharper than all other pianos/DPs I tried). The 'left-hand' keys definitely feel more heavy than a number of 'real' (acoustic) upright pianos I've also tried, and heavier than most of the digital pianos I've looked at (more than a dozen makes and models, I guess), which had weighted keys to begin with. This may be a personal matter, but I am now somewhat put off by these 2 unfavorable findings/observations of mine as far as the Korg SP-250 model goes. I was very enthusiastic at one point in time about this model (SP 250) but am now re-considering. In fact, I found that the SP-170 model (nearly twice less expensive...) gives me a much more comfortable feel of the keys. If it wasn't so inconvenient to switch its voices/sounds, which in addition are very few in number (the 250 model has at least twice more, plus the opportunity to lay them over), I would consider the 170 model more closely than the 250, for the above reasons. I did not look at digital pianos for stage performance purposes, I should admit, but rather for playing at home, so a stage performer may well have/form a different opinion of any Korg model than mine (as I understand, the above two models are specifically developed for stage performance).I hope the above review is useful to someone, for whatever it's worth.
Comments about Korg SP-250 88-Key Portable Digital Piano:
I bought this digital piano, for playing along with the church band. I love the weighted keys, and the overall quality and features. And the price for a stage piano is amazing. Sounds are excellent as well, plus it comes along with a stand and a damper, something which is not very common in stage pianos. Overall, I'm satisfied with this purchase

I will say that I'm no piano virtuoso, I actually bought this for my daughter, and home studio. To purchase a weighted action piano with stereo outs, dual headphone capability, and midi for the price I paid is truly unbelievable. I got it for a great percentage off during labor day, and I've got to say kudos for Musicians Friend for being very competetive in a slow economy. Anyway, in a nutshell, this machine is great. It does everything I currently need it to do, and with the MIDI i/o, it will do everything I will ever need it to do in the future. If you're on the fence about it, pick it up. You won't be dissatisfied.
Comments about Korg SP-250 88-Key Portable Digital Piano:
I was a little hesitant about ordering this keyboard when I saw the cheaper Korg available, but decided to go with this one (the cheaper one lacked the control panel which was a minus for me). All in all a great keyboard, well built, the speakers are average, the voices sound great on headphones or external monitors. The keys are well weighted and play very well, like a real piano with maybe a tad more resistance than the real thing but you get used to it quickly. Beautiful piano, ok pricing, great voices, and just a great playing experience in general.
Comments about Korg SP-250 88-Key Portable Digital Piano:
I have been researching digital pianos for the last few years, and have had my eye on this one for a while. I got this piano yesterday and was very impressed with the feel and action. The action is more weighted in the bottom and very light towards the higher end of the board, almost like the real thing! It has really nice dynamics also. While this is a plus, I thought the sound quality was pretty bad. I know that's what you get in a digital piano, but I was hoping the sound might be a little richer. Getting a good pair of headphones might help solve this problem though. This keyboard also does not have very many features. Its pretty much just the patches and a metronome. This is fine though for me though because I was just wanting something to practice on at home when I can't get to campus to practice on a grand piano. Overall, it was a great value for the money. The highlight of this board is definitely the realistic feel, which is probably the most important thing to look for in a digital piano. I feel like it was well worth the money and will tide me over until I can afford that Roland!
Comments about Korg SP-250 88-Key Portable Digital Piano:
I am a classical pianist, but I also rock out with the church band. This keyboard fit my needs perfectly. While not ideal for performing Chopin or Mendelssohn, this keyboard allowed me to practice without leaving my dorm room. It has all the sounds a church keyboardist would need, and they sound great. The strings and synth pad are wonderful. My favorite sound is the Bright Piano; the default sound is a little dark for contemporary music, but ideal for practicing classical. I highly recommend this to anyone... don't spend over $1,000 on a Yamaha that's just as good.
Comments about Korg SP-250 88-Key Portable Digital Piano:
I bought this for our youth group. We have new piano players with limited abilities and it fits perfectly. There are not many options as far as sounds go, but for us that is perfect. We just needed a weighted keys keyboard with a good piano sound. The sounds that are on the keyboard are great and I Love it.

The korg sp 250 sounds just like a real piano. It's amazing. I love it so much. keys feel just like a real piano. Sound is amazing. Its just great. It has built in speakers so you don't have to go buy any speakers for it, which is a great thing if you're on a budget.
