This midi board has a nice keyboard with a plethora of extra controls. You really do get a lot for the money. The keys aren't as semi-weighted as one might think. If you play piano or weighted keyboards, this thing really doesn't come close. However, it has just enough weight that is perfect for a synth. It's not as smooth as the keys of an organ or pricey synth, but it's definitely nothing worth complaining about. I love all the knobs and faders, it's like you have a full midi controller. I'd definitely recommend this for DJs/Electronic folks, you could do some serious loop improv sets with this. The single largest downfall about the unit is that there is really not enough support for all the computer apps out there. I struggle to be able to take advantage of all the features built into it (pads, faders, knobs, etc) to work with computer programs. It's not necessarily a fault of M-Audio, but rather the software makers (Ableton, Reason, etc)...this board does not integrate with them as nicely as it could. I've never been able to figure out how to assign different sounds or functions to the pads while assigning the keyboard to a synth. Again, the programming is complicated. I would love if someone wrote a tutorial about how to seamlessly integrate this thing with the major computer apps. The onboard programming really isn't as friendly as you're lead to believe (there's a tad bit of a learning curve), but the software gets things done quick and easy. Overall, I am very satisfied with the product itself, I'd just prefer more direct software support for it. You get a tremendous bang for your buck. If you're looking for a full-featured controller that won't break the bank, this is it.

My Axiom 49 worked for about 6 months until it suffered from the dreaded "blue screen of death." In the case of axioms, this means that the screen backlight turns on, but the unit is still completely unresponsive. After a two month battle with their so called support, I got an RMA number and sent it back. When I received my "repaired" unit, it was still broken! BEWARE of their "support." They don't check that repaired units are working before they ship them back, that is after you pay for return shipping, of course. Disgusted. Appalled. Horrified. BEWARE.

this was the first midi keyboard i ever bought or played, it is very nice, the keys feel a little light to the touch, and it is only good compared to the really nice ones and acustic pianos. but over all i am very happy with the product, i got it when it was on sale, and i can hook it up to my macbook pro which i hook up to my amp and it sounds pretty nice, a bit grainy and sharp (not as in notes like sharp or flat). it sounds better when i hook it up to the stereo.
I've had this controller for 1.5 years faders are cheaply built and snap at the bat of an eye the usb unput solder will indeed snap on you give it a few weeks and today my midi output just decided it never wants to work again either by far the biggest waste of money i've spent on a piece of equipment cheaply built so it falls apart and I don't gig that hard with it personally i'd suggest a novation or something comparable.

My set up is first generation Aluminium iMac with Garageband and Studio OnePros: Very versital. Good hybrid feel between synth and piano. Easy setup with an Apple, no driver issues.Cons: When you open up the box, it comes with the warning PRODUCT CONTAINS LEAD. Plastic. Had to repair one dead key after 2 years. Baby it.
Just picked this baby up about a week ago. First thing I noticed was the box was extremely heavy, more so than most synths even, let alone MIDI controllers. When I pull it out of the box, I realize the thing is built like a tank! I love using the sliders to control the mixer in Sonar while being re-wired to Reason and I sometimes use leftover sliders to control mixer channels in Reason as well. I don't like how the rotary knobs turn in clicks. The drivers I downloaded had trouble installing on Win 7, but other than that I have no complaints. This is the unit to buy. I checked out the Akai and liked the sliders on the Axiom much better. The Akai did have better pads and knobs though, but I'm all about sliders, I depend on them for so much, probably more than I should ;) Seriously, if you're still using a piano roll, do whatever you can to go out and get one of these and your musical life and productivity/workflow will improve 100%. Having all the pads, knobs, sliders and keys makes this an all-in-one workstation, no need for conflicting software with other MIDI pad controller peripherals. You can be a one man band with just this controller and the proper software, I'm performing with just this and my laptop!
if you are one of the many who are buying this to use with your new software probly fl studio remember it is highly important to have a decent sound card or else there will be latency something you will probly not relize at first. but as for a review this is a great controller has everything you need at a very nice price i would buy it again in a second
I bought this keyboard about 6 months ago, and 6 of the keys have quit working already. After going through all of the troubleshooting listed on their website, it has been determined that the keyboard is malfunctioning. I haven't even been gigging with this. The only time it has ever been moved was from the store to my house.M-audio's customer service is terrible: they charge you $3/min just to talk to you on the phone. I refuse to pay this, so I'm stuck currently speaking with their support via e-mail. It's been about a week since I first emailed them and I still haven't got a definitive response about the manufacturer's warranty.
First thing I noticed when I recieved the board, it felt STURDY. I'm a fan of good quality, durable feeling hardware, theres nothing cheap plastic-ish about this unit.Compared to other models I tried in stores, the keys on this are a whole new world of excellent. The faders feel smooth and are easy to control. My only tiny complaint is that the knobs turn with clicks instead of one smooth twist... this allows for very precise control. I would rather the knobs without clicks, but whatever. The pads feel great and have good sensitivity.I dont know what else to say about this guy besides if you're thinking about buying a midi controller, seriously consider an M-Audio Axiom. The 49 was perfect size for me, fits on a desk, and has all the perks you want.Great, great product. I use it in FL Studio 9.
I have had the Axiom 49 for about a year and a half now and I really love this controller. The abundnace of sliders and knobs, as well as the drum pads, are a great touch. They really cram a lot of usable stuff on this controller which is nice. I map things myself so I haven't used the software much that comes with it but I have had no issues using it with Reason, Reaktor, Live or anything else for that matter. I have had some instances where it simply didn't work but turning it off then back on seemed to solve the problem. Great buy for the money.
I got this new, MIDI controller and it's so FLY Got me that M-Audio Axiom 49Though about the 61 but it was too many KEYS and i figured that 25 was just not enough for ME So i got me me one of THESE WOW, you won't BELIEVE Making beats is such a BLASTAs breezy as you can SEEgot FADERS that i'm loving MUCHSEMI-WEIGHTED keys with an AFTERTOUCHGot WHEELS & PADS oh BOYWhat more could i be asking FOR? Simply all of the basics i could really ask for in a MIDI controller and for the price, It's a deal. I've been using it frequently with FL Studio 8 for about a month now and I Love it, everything works very well, i get that hands on feel on my music now like never before. Only minor flaw i have with this are the snapping nobs but i guess i could live with that. Would HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!
