Comments about M-Audio Axiom Pro 49 USB/MIDI Controller:
There is no way I could possibly recommend this item to someone. It is plagued with faults and poor construction. While it looks sleek and inviting on the outside, it really is just buggy. If you are like me and need a quality, reliable, efficient device to speed up and inspire your audio production, look elsewhere. The M-Audio Axiom Pro 49 is certainly not where you will find your answer.
I chose this MIDI keyboard out of all the others because of the features. I knew what I wanted: 49 keys, realistic feel comparable to real piano, and enough knobs/sliders/buttons to efficiently control DAWs. I figured the Axiom Pro had everything I wanted and, for the most part, I was right. HyperControl is a great feature, with knobs automatically mapping to all of the common DAWs and their plugins. Unfortunately, it can be extremely buggy and doesn't always work correctly. Lots of little irritating glitches and freezes that render this product unreliable and unusable (read on for details).
I had this keyboard for about three months. During those three months it really only saw about four weeks of use, because I headed off to college and had no time to play. When it was in use, it sat on a flat table in a room with my other music equipment, with a cover on it when it wasn't used. When I left for college, I put it in the box it came with (full of foam, packing peanuts) where it sat for about two months. When I finally got a chance to play I plugged it in and it refused to be recognized by the computer and I suffered from a "Blue Screen of Death". Come to find out, this issue has plagued both the Axiom and Axiom Pro since their inception. The problem is caused by a failure of the main board, a problem that they say is covered under warranty. However, this means you have to pay to have it shipped there.
If the hardware failure wasn't enough, when it was actually working, the HyperControl was extremely iffy. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. Random freezes would occur and sometimes it would just quit working and I would have to restart it. Not only that, when OS updates come, I couldn't update because the Axiom wouldn't work. Even upgrading from OS X 10.7.1 to 10.7.2 caused problems.
Considering the problems I've had, this is definitely not a well priced piece of equipment. If it was functioning perfectly, it would still be somewhat expensive.

This product will do what it says and is a good value for the money. I bought mine on that site that makes the kindle, you know that reputable site that seems not to be an authorized dealer according to this site and hence would not price match. But other than that, its a great product.
