I got this keyboard to start messing with electronic sounds and it has done a great job from the start. My windows 7 PC recognized it right away, opened up NI's FM8 and bam, good to go. Literally plug and play in that case. I agree with the other person that it sucks that the included software requires ASIO. But if there are delays in sound or anything that NOT the keyboards fault!!! To some it up, when I'm (trying) to make music, I totally forget about the keyboard, and to me thats a sign a good product. Doesnt get in your way or let you down, takes care of bidness for a good price.

Warning for Windows 7 users, especially 64-bit versions: Do not purchase! M-Audio advertises that the product is Windows 7 compatible, both on website product description and a sticker on the box. I bought mine from Guitar Center for my son in college, and he could not install it at school. I came to his dorm and tried with no luck, so I took it home to get it going. The reality is that if you try to install from the included CD, it will not work at all. Then you go to the M-Audio web site, and there is a Win7 driver, both for 32 & 64 bit. Fine. However, the KeyRig 49 software player DOES NOT FUNCTION with Win7 of any flavor, and M-Audio has no intention of supporting Win7 at all. This is really deceptive advertising. Unfortunately, I can't take it back to GC, as his dorm-mate pitched the box, and it's after the 30-day limit.I looked around at other M-Audio products, and it appears their software development staff are either Mac-only types, or are newer Windows version ignorant. I'd suggest going elsewhere for modern Windows supported solutions for music HW & SW.

Works very well in Ableton Live with very little configuration. Did not need to map mod/pitch in Live. Feels like a solid keyboard, the keys feel durable. Great budget keyboard for a home producer.

          Comments about M-Audio KeyRig 49:

This was my very first midi controller that I've owned. I can say that this keyboard will get the job done if you are an aspiring producer getting started with an FL Studio, Reason, or Pro Tools DAW setup. The octave control buttons feel nice, but the pitch and mod wheel feel kind of cheap. As for the keys, you get what you pay for; the keys feel like any standard M-Audio with non-weighted keys.

THis keyboard has helped me very much make GarageBand accessible to children. Yet, I am looking for others now that may have a better build since the USB port starts to jiggle and then power is gone. The USB port starts to loosen.

bought mine in a local music store and got it for the same price, 99$ its really worth the price!! if your new to this studio thing (like i am) and if you dont have an awesome budget, go get it!! but if i'd have more money to spend on this, you can have something a lot better but you know, it does the job for me

                Comments about M-Audio KeyRig 49:

I was wary of buying this based on some of the reviews posted here but I am glad I did. Got mine on sale for $69 with a nicely made sustain pedal also on sale for about $18 bucks. As a fledgling laptop recorder new to MIDI, I was able to get up and playing in virtually no time, just a quick driver download for Windows 7 from M-Audio's website. The keyboard has great action even if the keys are a bit light and plastic-feeling. But I dare you to find anything this good for anywhere near this price. My only regret is that I didn't get two at the sale price and give one to my son. Still might - it's a bargain at the regular price.

                Comments about M-Audio KeyRig 49:

After countless attempts at trouble-shooting the compatibility issues with this product, M-Audio and Ableton have lost all my future business. Though sold as a package deal, the keystation 49 was never on the list of midi devices. Early attempts at updating and/or rolling back drivers would only temporarily fix the problem. I have never been able to complete a project with this software and now I cannot even get it to recognize the hardware.

I just got my Keyrig 49 , and I have to say I'm impressed . I had a Korg Nanokey and three keys quit on it after two days so I returned it to the store .Being new to this DAW stuff I was a little confused on what to purchase , so I thought "what the heck " I'll try this one out , I got it this afternoon , plugged it in , installed the virtual instruments and was blown away !!!! If you are looking for an inexpensive, simple controller , look no further ! If I can get this thing installed and sounding this good so easily , anyone can , as I am an old guy just getting into this digital stuff , and virtual instruments and all that . Buy it !!! I haven;t seen anything better for the money !!!
