I received this item as a gift, and am glad to say that it works great under Mac OS X 10.4.8. I downloaded the latest drivers from the M-Audio website for Intel-based Macs, and Garageband saw it right away and hasn't failed to perform yet. The version of the MIDIsport USB 2x2 MIDI Interface that I have is actually silver & black, but has the exact same features and port placements as the version pictured above. Right now, I'm only using it with a Casio STK-541, but with the additional port, I have room for expansion when the time comes. A great product.

Ok, here is the break down.DesignThe device is sturdy. A metal case, good weight and *seemingly* dependable, but poorly designed. I can't figure out the logic on having three ports in the back and one on the front. I I also don't like that the front power led pulses after being installed- and yes, its supposed to do that.Driver supportIf you use Windows XP let me let you know in advance that a new driver has not been posted on the M-Audio site since 2003. With that said, the device comes with terrible instructions. Go to the website for better info and read through the knowledge base before you install- trust me. FunctionalityThis is where things take a turn for the worst. Now the unit works fine under Protools 7.3 as long as you use only one set of ports. The MIDISPORT 2x2 will not route anything correctly under Protools if you use both sets (IN/OUT A+B). Google "Protools Midisport Problems" and see for yourself. SummaryIf you use protools go with Motu. Period.

Great MIDI to USB interface

I installed the driver, pluged it in, it works great. I am using cakewalk and it identified both ports automatically. I have the Alesis Fusion and other controlers using both ports at the same time. Great box!

Works great, no problems

By Sharp11Girl

from Los Angeles, CA

I have owned this little guy for two years now I think. I have an iMac, so installation and setup was brain-dead easy. It stopped working for a while and I thought it was broken but my fiance suggested maybe it needed a new driver, and yup, that fixed it! I bought more than I needed; I only have one MIDI device, and I wish they were all more in the $20 range than the $50 range, but I have no complaints about it other than that.

Ask me a question

I have had this device in my home studio for about a year now and it has served me well with no problems. It is VERY sturdy; the only gripe I have is that one MIDI connector is on the front of the device and the rest in the back, making it a little awkward. Setup was easy; had it going in <10 minutes.

Good, but it quit on me

By 4tiDCMyQ0

from Wantage, NJ

My interface worked great for the first 7 months, but then it quit on me. My computer didn't realise that the interface was there even though I reloaded the driver many times, and the indicator lights never turned on. I would not recoment it. But who knows, it could have been something I did wrong.

Excellent Product

I think that this an excellent product for a small midi studio. It's easy to use and you can set it up, leave it and forget it, and it works beautifully.

If you need a simple, solid interface and you don't need much room to expand then this is a quality buy. I have been using mine for over a year with no issues.

EXCELLENT LITTLE MIDI PORT

Works great on my Win XP PRO machines, using Reason, Giga & Cubase. Never a problem and it's been put to work basically non-stop for 5 years without one single issue. I have three of them on the three different PCs.
