Try another

Comments about MOTU Fast Lane USB MIDI Interface:

I abosultely hate when things like this just fail. It wastes tons of time diagnosing and then having to buy another one. AARGH
Good features, easy to use, driver. Installing, at least on a Mac was extremely easy and fool proof.
I like the thru switch and the indicator lights.
I've used this interface for a couple of years, infrequent use, but the other day I recorded some stuff and then when I went to play it back the next day, no MIDI out. A rigorous testing procedure including swapping out cables and interfaces, restarting, re-installing drivers confirms the interface just stopped working. very frustrating.
I would expect an interface to have a 5 year life span, at least.

The worst MIDI interface I've ever used

By fluffy-7wQTN

Comments about MOTU Fast Lane USB MIDI Interface:

I remember a day when MIDI worked perfectly-fine with no latency and no dropped events on a slow serial port on 6502-based 8-bit computers. So why is it that this device, when hooked up to my blazing-fast Dual 2.0GHz G5 via a luxuriously modern USB connection, has a hard time recording 12 quarter notes without problems? I have tried updating my drivers, contacting MOTU tech support, and everything else, and yet this stupid piece of junk will often deliver events SECONDS late, completely at random, with note-ons often arriving after their note-offs, or events being dropped entirely. MOTU's response? They tell me to hook the device directly to one of the few USB ports I have directly on my computer. Even when I do that, it's still a piece of junk. It's not even USB class-compliant, so you have to load their terrible drivers onto your system and just HOPE that they happen to keep it up-to-date with all the newer systems which come out. Not that you'd want to, because its quality is absolute garbage.
