Comments about Native Instruments The New MASCHINE:
I was skeptical about Maschine at first but I decided to go for it to get the cheaper Komplete crossgrade and after I learned about hosting AU and VST plugs within the Maschine application.
Maschine has totally blown me away. I previously used an MPC1000 that had been operating JJOS2XL. The difference in workflow and integration is night and day.
Maschine is super easy to learn and the menus are very quick and easy to navigate. Not having used MKi I cant comment on having two displays or buttons that click and all that but it seems that they have done even more things right with this version.
One of my favorite aspects of the device/software is the ability to start and stop record mode at the drop of a hat. Its so seamless to be practicing a rhythmic phrase than just hit a button and without having to go back to metronome lay it down. In fact everything operates this way! The kits and effects are solid and there are lots of new ones being added online so even if you aren't a beat slicer this won't get dull anytime soon.
In short, NI have nailed the future of the well integrated MIDI controller although to call this is a MIDI controller is a bit of an understatement.
Only qualm, the pricetag is a bit much but on the whole I think its well worth it.

Comments about Native Instruments The New MASCHINE:
The Maschine is one of the best pieces of gear I've ever purchased. Simply put, it puts your workflow on steroids and allows you to focus on the creative end of producing. Making EVERYTHING controllable straight from the unit leads to increased creativity for your tracks. Maschine combined with a small MIDI controller (Arturia Minilab is perfect) makes for an indestructible production force.

Comments about Native Instruments The New MASCHINE:
excellent tool for speeding up ideas / workflow with a hands on approach... pretty good sound library.
Minor issues (like easier audio routing into a DAW like Logic ) would be preferred and i would like the patterns to have a 'hot' signal without overloading the cpu but that may be my lack of familiarity with the unit.
Overall, you'll be pleased if making the transition from the legacy sampler / grooveboxes (emu, akai, roland).

Comments about Native Instruments The New MASCHINE:
Compared to my old Mk1 this thing is a dream - all the buttons (not pads) now click, which I don't like (sometimes they get double responsive, and sometimes it feels like they don't respond the first time, latest 1.8) - and the 8 rotaries are a bit easier to turn, and I like more resistance, but baring these personal qualms and the regular selling price, this is a great piece of kit. If you already have/had a Maschine, and can find a new Mk1 for half the price, well, this isn't worth double. But if you never had one, it's the same price as the original always was.
The pads are WAY more sensitive on the new one, but sometimes you can feel the pad pulling away from the sensor almost like MPC pads, which the MK1 didn't have, it felt solid and almost magically sensed your hits. But for live performance this will be fantastic. I'm used to it already in less than a week, and can play a full kit style drum part live with one hand, these are so sensitive that your pinky doesn't suffer. More sensitive than the Korg PadKontrol which used to be the best.
The software is the same for either unit, but I suppose that is one of the reasons I took a star off, not because it's bad, but because I don't think that it's worth 3 hundo (I can't imagine this unit being worth much more than 3, and bundles always bring the total down...) and the software does seem to sell second hand on auction and classified sites for around a c note.
That said, the software is not available as a 64 bit AU plugin, only 32, though it is a 64 bit VST (not helpful if you're a Logic user). and the Transport controls don't easily control the DAW transport while in plugin mode (for me so far, anyway.)
Lastly, the removable faceplates - the White is not a while face - it is brushed silver/aluminum. Just be aware. I removed the face to see if it was white underneath, but it is filled with magnets underneath. THIS SAID - WHY ISN'T THERE A FACEPLATE WITH OTHER WRITING? Like for Traktor? For Makie? These maps are built in, but it would be nice to have other labels - I know what they do in Maschine, so when I use it with Traktor on occasion, I would like to have labels without using masking tape.
All in all, if you don't have a pad controller, nothing comes close, regardless of price. This is by far the best, so I feel like NI is treating us well for a change - the LEDs are nice and bright but not obnoxious, and the different colors can be useful when playing live (so you know your kicks are always red, snares always yellow, etc, or however you want to lay it out, by banks, by individual sounds, etc).
