Comments about Nord Electro 3 HP 73-Note, Hammer Action Piano:
Overall rating; Fantastic! I spent 3 days trippin out, in my own little "Steppenwolf meets Deep Purple" fantasy world. The Clav sound was good enough to finally learn superstitious.
I can see how this would be the 1 board for a gig. The truth is, while many keyboards have a million sounds, in a working band, you only need a couple, the rest comes down to chops.
The wierd patch placement and limited live locations are a little odd, but then, how many path changes do you make in a song? One or two, usually?
Overall, I would say this board is the real deal. I bought it, cause I was out one night and heard a guy playing an Electro 2. I thought it was the best board I had heard and the the fact it was 61 keys didn't seem to matter.
Now that I've had time to delve into it, I see the possibilities. For a live board, I think I'll need to get into the program manager and drop the patches into sensible locations for live use. The fact that you can alter effects on the fly is super cool also. No more hauling 3 keyboards, pedals, cases, cords, effects. I'm more like a guitar player now. 1 board, 1 amp, 2 cables. Plug in and go, go, go,.
But this board! Again, buy this board. You will NOT be disappointed. Sell you Korg, sell your car, become a test monkey for some experimental drug. Do whatever you have to do in order to raise the sheckles, but get it!
The best "feature" of this board is everything is available on the fly. Well, maybe not everything, but all that you need, performance wise is a button click, or knob turn away.
Best organ sounds period. A-B'ed the Nord HP against my Roland piano and (IMO) the pianos in the Nord sound good. I never played the Electro 2, so I can't make a comparison, but the fact that the low note is E, and the action is decent make it a very playable keyboard. BTW, I replaced my Hammond XK-1 organ with this board. The hammond was good, but single use only. IMO, the NOrd is a better Hammond sound.
I can't really speak to the value. I know it's pricey, but for me, that wasn't really a factor. If you are looking for a bargain, this board isn't for you. For me, I want the best, whatever the cost.
