Creating and editing sounds has never been easier!
The Nord Lead 3 Virtual Analog 24-Voice Synthesizer combines the most intuitive, user-friendly interface with rotary knobs and LED graphs for total, immediate control. Adjustable Unison feature gives you the power of 10 detuned oscillators per note and still provides full polyphony! High-speed DSPs and DACs guarantee exceptional sound quality. Redesigned oscillator section offers 2 oscillator groups plus a built-in sync oscillator. 2 multimode filters can be routed in series or parallel. Classic filter emulates vintage analog sounds for instant nostalgia. 3 LFOs/Envelopes per voice provide heavenly modulation. Morph function lets you continuously control up to 26 parameters in a sound, using only one control source. Also features 4-octave velocity- and aftertouch-sensitive keyboard with octave-shifting capability.

I have owned my NL3 for over a year now, and I am honestly kind of disapointed with it. I like to really dig into synths and program my own sounds, but I am somehow not as inspired by the NL3 as by other synths. I find that the filter has a very distinctively 'plastic" sound to it. You can easily hear the same thing in the NL2, and original Nord modular, both of which I own. The sound of the filter isn't horrible, but it lacks the warmth and personality of the Access Virus C or a real Moog 904a filter. Where the NL3 really excells is modulation. It is a piece of cake to assign a controller like the great feeling mod wheel or aftertouch to mod a whole slew of parameters in real time, and you simply can not beat the UI with all of those great LED encircled knobs. However, the sounds that come out of the machine are the acid test, and this is where the NL3 just doesn't stack up. It sounds distinctly digital to me, and its sutractive + FM synthesis method seems so tired these days. While I won't sell mine any time soon, knowing what I now know, I wouldn't buy it again if I had it to do over again.
The reason I gave the Nord Lead 3 only 9 stars is because there is *always* room for improvement. However, that being said, this synthesizer is simply the best synthesizer in my arsenal. I own top of the line workstations and other feature-rich machines, but I always come back to the simple complexity of the Nord Lead 3. Making sounds, tweaking sounds, knobs, lights, a great keyboard feel, metal and not plastic - just a great tool. The folks at Clavia should be very proud of the work they have done here.
the best synth i have ever experienced.. its sick...
