        Swiss Army Keyboard

        By Relgrem

        from Buffalo, NY

I've been gigging with this thing for a few months now. If you're an old school guy that doesn't have a crew of roadies and repairmen, this is THE board for you. Whirly, Rhodes, Clav, piano, synth, Vox, Farfisa, and B3 in one light-weight package. "FER-REAL"! Well, real enough for me anyways. I think they're all pretty spot-on.This is an expressive instrument with bells and whistles that are intuitive and convienient.Once you're familiar with all the many knobs and buttons, you can make adustments very effectivly on the fly. However, reading the owners manual IS a worthwhile activity to get the most out of this board.TIPSThis thing takes 4 peddles. Use them all. The organ swell and sustain peddles are pretty standard, but the control peddle can be assigned PER PATCH. Route it to to the Wah effect on a clav sound. OH YES!There's three velocity curves on the piano section sounds. If you want a sharper attack in the piano, set this to curve 3 (the default is 1, and you gotta REALLY pound on the board to get a brite sound). If this thing was thousand bucks cheaper it'd be a no-brainer. Otherwise, if you're a gigger and can afford it, buy one.

        Extraordinary Digital Piano

The Nord Stage 88 is perhaps the best standalone digital piano on the market. It is not a "workstation", but has an acoustic/electric piano engine, an organ engine, and an analog synth engine. All engines are dual, meaning two sounds from each can be used. The keyboard has 6 zones, so you can layer up to 6 sounds at once. Meaning two different Pianos, Organs, and Synths can be used at once. On the fly editing functions are for getting a cool sound fast. This board sounds incredible. You can get so many great sounds. WOW.

Nord is Getting Better and More Comprehensive

The addition of Vox and Farfisa organs is really fantastic and they sound great. It is also great to have an onboard synth. The piano sounds are greatly improved. I found the old ones to be completely useless and the new ones here surprised me. The electric grands and clavs sound great too. The theremin sound is GREAT!!!! Very expresive and sounds like Good Vibrations. There is now a 76 key model and I think they ought to do a 61 so you can fit it into a cab. The controls are not too bad but they will take a little longer to learn than say a Triton to get the best sound. This is a fantastic gigging keyboard- all in one and lightweight. It will be intersting to see what happens now that Rhodes is back and abuot to start selling newer and lighter electric pianos (The new Mark VII)

The Best Board You'll Ever Buy.

        By Joemuzik

        from NYC

Well....Yes, the Board is Super Pricy. It's NOT a work-station. It's a board that has THE best organ, pianos (acoustic, electric, and even the clavis). Each sound is so authentic that you'd honestly expect each sound to come from Studio-grade instruments. I only had a little bit of time to tickle with the Synth. But...the idea is that it is a fully functional analog synth attached to this board (I mean, come on...how can you say no to that). The keys ARE fully weighted (which is great for the piano patches, but hassle on the organ and synth patches..but, that's what midi controllers are for). Plus, it's a beautiful bright red. And isn't being a musician all about making a statement?

        Nord Stage 88

        By ButlerDawg

        from Indianapolis, IN

I recently bought the Nord Stage 88. This thing looks like a beast at first, but I realized that after spending an hour in the store playing with it, among other keyboards, I knew how to operate nearly the entire keyboard because it is built in sections that are easily understandable. It has an onboard EQ which comes in very handy, as well as a compressor, reverb, and effects section. I love the organ, and synth on the board, but the main reason I had to purchase a stage keyboard was for quality piano sounds--this one had it. Granted the price was up there, but Nord allows you to literally download a different piano sound and add it to the keyboard. The store bought keyboard I have was version 1.1 of their software, it is now at 2.0. It's a friendly to use keyboard that, if you're a pianist that always has his board with him just in case the piano tuning never happened, this one will fill in very nicely.

        Good emulation and weight

        By Anonymous

        from Undisclosed

I play mostly improvisational jazz/funk fusion. The electric pianos coupled with the onboard amps and effects emulation are a great match. Synth section is very good for what it offers and organ sections are alot of fun. They don't quite give the full girth of the real deal, but then again I can travel with this easily. If you have a road crew and unlimited funds, then obviously you will search for the vintage originals. That said price is still expensive, and I have played piano sections that do a bit better job with attack and release. But, Nord continues to offer upgrades tothe system that are easily uplaodable.
