Comments about Roland Fantom-G6 Workstation Keyboard:
Great product
This Keyboard is amazing. I wrote a song for my country Haiti without any help from other external hardware at the exception of a mic. All was done with the G6, vocal etc.... Of course, I could have done better if I had more time to play with it.
Metal body. I have it for more than a year, it still rocking.
The price of a Roland is like a Mac computer, it keeps his value for a very long time.
Comments about Roland Fantom-G6 Workstation Keyboard:
I have owned about everything you can think of over the years from old wurleys, Rhodes, Moogs, etc. So, if I'm playing on a board that is lacking, it just wears me out during a gig.Having said that, the reason I gravitate to Roland stuff is because it just sounds good-in this case really excellent. I have the G6 as I am compfortable with unweighted keys and really like a lighter weight board. To the specifics: Sounds: ridiculously good. For all of us that had 8 expansion cards in a rack mount- well you don't need em anymore. Everything is a step up- acoustic pianos, EP's, B3's, etc. Plus, in great roland tradition the ethereal stuff is just wonderful (like spooky strings, classical guitar, and voices layered in velocity).Feel: feels fine. Have played the weighted G8 and it's great too.Interface: If there's a caveat(downside), the user interface requires breaking out the manual. For instance, you CAN set up favorites and assign them to the 8 buttons(shiftable to 16)below the screen. You can also make these favorite bankscoincide with the 16 lighted pads on the upper right side of the board. This is quite cool if you play on dark stages as the selected pad blinks constantly while enabled, so you always know exactly what patch you are on. There are sixteen banks assignable to favorites, so thats 16X16 if you say, want to step through a sequence of patches with a footpedal and do an entire bank per song.Neverless, I've heard comments about how hard it is to find sounds, but if folks would just read for an hour its worth the payoff.Other stuff: Haven't used the sequencer, the sampler, etc. I bought it for the plug and play sounds. Incidently, a church where I play has a big Motif- it's a beast. Heaviest board I ever moved which takes 2 people. It sounds pretty good, but it doesn't rock like a roland. I just love playing rock guitar leads on this thing- drives the guitar player crazy!! Yeah, it's legit : )Lastly, I have almost every Eric Persing audio design CD that Spectrasonics puts out. Eric has done the roland keyboard sound design for a long time (starting as far back as the D50) and he must have had a hand in this Fantom G too- it's that good.
Comments about Roland Fantom-G6 Workstation Keyboard:
I own the a Fantom X8 and I like it a lot. I have always been a big fan of Roland keyboards. I did not think that Roland could producing a better keyboard than the X until now. The fantom g keyboard is a great instrument. It has a lot of key feature that are user friendly to implement in the studio or live. With the new audio and midi track count the possibilities are endless. Phantom power enables you to full compose, mixdown a computer project, and which can late be mastered into a CD with you favorite Mastering program. Roland has improve the media feature by adding usb ports for mouse and a flash drive. The only thing missing is a CD burner and VGA output. The sounds are off the chain. Go Roland you want be sorry!!
Comments about Roland Fantom-G6 Workstation Keyboard:
I bought this 2 weeks ago and it is a keyboard player and studio musicians dream. Not only can the Fantom G6 record 128 tracks of internal sound, it can also record another 16 tracks of external audio source, with built in Phantom Power for your mics. The Fantom is a great all-in-one solution for any musician. The sounds are brilliant, the recording easy and the final result is a mastering techs worst nightmare(as in so good, you will not have to, or want to go the the studio anymore).I urge anyone who buys this keyboard to spend the $ on the 1GB of RAM. You will need it if you like to sample alot or record external audio sources. The onboard 32MB's or Ram just isnt enough.Customer support at Roland is top notch and their employees love the products just as much as the end users do.
Comments about Roland Fantom-G6 Workstation Keyboard:
I was considering the Fantom G & X. I was leaning towards the X because I use computer based DAW's like Pro Tools and Logic Pro and thought that for the price the G was overkill for me. I'm very glad I decided to go with the Fantom G. The sounds are perfect for my needs and the mouse/trackball input along with the USB drive storage is up to modern standards. Gonna put a Gig stick in it and hope some new expansion boards come out soon. This is a very inspiring machine. Won't give up my Mac for recording and editing, but this thing is a perfect fit in the studio and on stage live. Glad I got the G!!!
