Comments about Roland FANTOM-G8 Workstation:
I have a fantom g and I like my keyboard so much! In all honestly I couldn't see how Roland could create a keyboard that sound better than the fantom x series, but they have. I had the opportunity to play on $100,000 acoustic piano when I took lessons. And, I must say that the fantom G have great sounding piano with good tuning feature if you need them. I don't have to use the tuning feature because most of the piano sounds are dead on center accurate. And, it is so many that it could take hours to just demo all of them. The bass guitars and drum kits are great as well. As a studio musician I have had the opportunity to own and play Yamaha keyboards and pianos as well as other brand. But, I cannot live without my Roland. When you have a great sounding keyboard that has multi-track audio and midi sequencing capabilities as the fantom g your creativity flows smoothly. As, for the software utility that comes with the keyboard it is good as well because if you working with a DAW like Pro Tools, Cubase, or Sonar, etc you can control all fantom g features as a software plug-in in your DAW program without ever touching the buttons. Go Roland if your looking for a complete workstation with DAW capabilities of multi-track audio or midi sequencing. You won't be sorry that you did!!!
Comments about Roland FANTOM-G8 Workstation:
I love this keyboard. I had a few issues after purchasing it, but they were caused by factory settings. After working through this, and I must mention that Tech Support was great, I am loving this board. There is so much to learn. Layering/adjusting volume levels on the fly is so fast and easy. Get this board, you will not be disappointed.
Comments about Roland FANTOM-G8 Workstation:
I have to admit that this instrument was way more than what I needed but have been quite impressed with all of its capabilities. Being a classical musician, I thought it would be more fun to have alot of the bells and whisles that are on this unit. However, the sounds are quite good....yes, you can find various sounds elswhere that are better for specific uses. However, overall you should have no trouble finding or programing what you need with ease on this board. It has been 10 years since owning a synth, and only having had this unit a day I am already easily navigating between modes, functions, and parameters---squencing songs--with ease, thanks to the awesome graphical interface on this unit. Value wise, this is a tought debate---yes this is a pricey board, but it can do anything you call on it with ease and it makes the overall experience a coherent and pleasing one. I suppose it's all in the eyes of the beholder...I love my Fantom G8....
Comments about Roland FANTOM-G8 Workstation:
So, overall this is a great keyboard. Well constructed. Most of the sounds are very good. The layout is more organized and user friendly. The piano sounds, believe it or not, are not great. I tweaked them a little and got some that I get by with, but the original sample was flawed. The most important sounds in a keyboard are the piano sounds and they should be much better than this. Other sounds that I use (like the Rhodes, Clav, String, Harp, Moog, etc.) are good. The computer software that comes with it is a joke. Not written by real programmers, and it doesn't do anything that you can't do on the keyboard. No benefit at all. I haven't used the mouse with it, but what's the point? The keyboard is still in a data-entry type format not a Windows format. Scrolling is still the best method. Still, its a keeper. Pretty decent keyboard.
Comments about Roland FANTOM-G8 Workstation:
When I bought it the first thing I recognized is it's size and weight (33 kg!).You can customize most of the func. buttons and D-Beam to do any thing. The performance fuctions(Live, Single, Studio), patch editors,Live Sampling and D-Beam Thecnology makes it way ahaead of it's rivals. If you are an piano player and looking for an actual "piano feel" keyboard, it's for you (for me). And for the negative parts: Some orchestral patches are not succesful. But with spending enough time with the Patch editors you may get what you like. The wieighted PHA II keys may not be suitable for every keyboard player. After all it's a great keyboard and will be "The Armada" of Roland Keyboard family.
