I bought this keyboard almost a year ago, and I love it! The Roland RD-700GX is great for at home or on the go. I played it at home using a small pv 1 amp and got terrific sound, later I hooked it up in our church through our Peavey PA system and it nearly blew me away! I have always said that I could never go from a real piano to a keyboard... This piece of equipment has proved me wrong. If one plays this (closing their eyes) the feel of the keys combined with the tone of the piano voices feels like a real piano (just not as bulky).
Most of the buyers of this piano use it strictly as a "stage" piano, and it does shine in that capacity. I also use it as the centerpiece of my home studio as a great controller. The weighted keys don't pose many limitations for strong players. I can't say enough good things about this piano.
What an incredible instrument this is. The keybed is in a class by it's self for digital pianos. I gave it a 4.5 for value, because I think all digital pianos are too expensive. Having said that; I would buy it again, if it needed to be replaced. Musician's Friend was awesome as always. You will never regret buying this one!
I play this at a local venue once a week and it belongs to them. But I must say I look forward to the weekly gig because this Roland is astounding. I especially like the feel as well as the customizable sounds. You can even go so far as to adjust the sound of the pianos by turning the wheel and changing how much the lid of the grand piano is opened. Also has every sound you could ever need. Quite a powerhouse!
I cannot say enough good things about this instrument. I live in the Atlanta area, and the musicians that I work with around here are insanely picky about everything, and THEY can't even say enough good things about this keyboard. Roland has really outdone themselves. The piano designer is my favorite part. Each sound is highly customizable, and the USB external memory is just unbelievable. I recorded this on a CD, and you would never believe that it was not a real piano. Have fun with this, and prepare to get a lot of compliments. Have fun with the organ too!
I like to play a lot of hard rock songs on this keyboard (e.g. Tool, Opeth, etc.) and the sounds are amazing. The interface is very straight-forward because the use of knobs, sliders and buttons instead of navigating dozens of submenus. This keyboard plays just like a real piano - Roland seems to be attempting to capture every nuance of Steinway grand pianos...in fact this is the only brand of digital keyboard sold in the Steinway store near my house.A good keyboard amp is a MUST with this or you won't be able to appreciate the quality of the Roland sounds. You will not regret purchasing this keyboard.
I have owned the RD-700GX for 8 months and have never played a better instrument! I play in two different groups doing mostly country, old favorites and some old soft rock. I go back about 40 years having owned a Fender Rhodes Stage 88 as a first instrument. I was pleasantly surprised to get the same sound out of the RD-700GX. Great touch control, outstanding effects and love the transpose feature since I am somewhat lazy! Purchased a Boss pedal and does great with the piano. I am still learning to use the piano and probably will never learn the full capability of the instrument. I guess the only downside is the weight...but, guess it takes weight to get the engine and capability evidenced in this machine. Probably will be the only stage piano I will ever need and really look forward to playing it each evening and at gigs. The band members rave about the sounds that can be generated as background for each number.
