This may be a great board if you can get one without factory defects. We tried twice and had to return both of them - one for a stuck key and the other because the right speaker didn't work. After 2 lemons in a row, we lost confidence in the product and returned for a refund. MF had a hassle-free refund process though.

Super board for the money

Comments about Yamaha DGX-230MS Portable Keyboard with Adaptor and Stand:

I purchased this keyboard (thanks, Musicians Friend!) and have only used it for a few days, but I can already tell it is an excellent product for the money. I'm doing studio work exclusively, so my opinion might be different if I were still on stage. The voices are outstanding, but I was mildly disappointed about the Grand Piano voice. In upper octaves, the sound is fairly realistic. Lower octaves aren't as good, but still acceptable. Aside from that, I love the keyboard. Good action, loaded with features, and the price is super. Where else are you going to get a great board for 300 bucks? Yamaha DGX-230. Get it. Play it. Live it. Love it.

Great Keyboard

By AngryVolvo

from PR

Comments about Yamaha DGX-230MS Portable Keyboard with Adaptor and Stand:

Pros:I bought this keyboard to learn how to play the piano about three years ago. If you're in a rock band and need just a few essential effects (synth, organ, strings) Then this is the keyboard you should get. If you're into electronic music you can use it as a midi controller (pitch wheel works amazing on SOME effects)Cons: For professional or experienced keyboard players, this is not a good choice. But for people on a budget that want to play by themselves on their homes, or rock out on stage, this is the keyboard to get.My advice: If you're starting: get this. The piano sounds great. If you're into more traditional piano, then consider getting one with hammer action. If you get tired of it, then connect it to a computer or midi processor and use it as a controller. It's a win-win deal.

A Solid Keyboard From Yamaha

By Clayton-ycujo

from Portland, OR

Comments about Yamaha DGX-230MS Portable Keyboard with Adaptor and Stand:

I've been playing around with this keyboard for the last week or so. The action is fine and the keys are close to full-size, so it's quite playable. This keyboard has hundreds of different voices, but around half of them, particularly guitar and brass voices, sound terrible. It's not perfect, but for the money, it's a great deal.

Comments about Yamaha DGX-230MS Portable Keyboard with Adaptor and Stand:

This is the second keyboard I have purchased, and by far the best. Using it for lessons for my kid and it is perfect for that. Lots of fun things to do when practice gets boring. Easy to record my own mixes to play guitar against. EXCELLENT keyboard for the price.

An Affordable, Fun Keyboard

By Pete-8v94e

from Millen, GA

Comments about Yamaha DGX-230MS Portable Keyboard with Adaptor and Stand:

I bought this keyboard about a month ago and have had absolutely no problems with it. Its not as light as I thought is would be, but that's not a problem. The voices on it are great. Haven't heard it through earphones yet, but the speakers sound quality is great. It's good for anyone who is looking for a keyboard just to bang around on, or an experienced player. I would highly recommend it.

Great Keyboard!

By BigPhil94

Comments about Yamaha DGX-230MS Portable Keyboard with Adaptor and Stand:

I got this keyboard as a Christmas gift and it really is a great keyboard. The keys feel wonderful, although they are not fully weighted, once you get used to them they play perfectly. It sound quality is superior to any other keyboard in the same price range. The features include a recorder, dual and harmony modes, and plenty of different sounds (around 400). It is just awesome. Do yourself a favor and buy this keyboard. Its great for any skill level. Before you start purchasing more expensive models give this one a shot!

Fantastic Keyboard for the Price

By Donna J. Lambert

from Defiance, Ohio

Comments about Yamaha DGX-230MS Portable Keyboard with Adaptor and Stand:

Along with the previous reviewer, I also got this keyboard for Christmas and was not disappointed. It is a step higher than my Yamaha PSR-E323, meaning that this 76-key keyboard has twice the power of the 61-key instrument. I don't mind that the keys aren't weighted. They have a little more resistance than the keys on my Casio WK3300. My 88-note keyboard is a Yamaha DGX500, which I've had since 2002. Its piano tone is a bit better than the Yamaha DGX230. However, for a bord in this price range, it is very nice and I've been enjoying playing it the few days I've had it. There are many great features on this keyboard and anyone from a beginner to a professional can enjoy it. Even with 76 keys a lot of classical repertoire can be played on this instrument. I have it in a room in my house that I like to call my piano room. It would fit in a kid's room nicely. In summary, for home use, this is a great keyboard.
