Comments about Yamaha MOTIF XS8 Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:
Very satisfied with this keyboard. It is all the rhythms and instruments needed for a one man recording project. However, I have also owned a Kurzwiel in the past and I feel that their piano and orchestral instruments are more to my liking but for rhythms and backing tracks this keyboard is definitely professional grade.
The features on this keyboard are great. Various styles of grooves and rhythms are already integrated into keyboard ROM and you can customize them to your own liking and style.
I bought this keyboard after the newer model came out so I got a great deal on it. If your looking for a pro keyboard at a reduced price now is the time.
Comments about Yamaha MOTIF XS8 Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:
I can honestly say purchasing my Motif XS8 was the best decision I have made. I love the touch, the sound, and all the other features that comes with it. I love the Balanced Hammer features as opposed to Granded Hammer that so many other pianos have. There is a big different in the way it feels when you play. My Motif is used for a Southern Gospel group as well as my own personal use at home. All the sounds are awesome! I am a very satisfied customer!
Comments about Yamaha MOTIF XS8 Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:
I bought this unit as a new/shelf/demo sale item. The price I paid was so insanely low (almost thirteen hundred)I had to check with management to make sure there wasn't a typo on the tag. It is the best dollar per value keyboard buy I've ever made. I don't sequence, but I did play around with the sequencer and found it more difficult to use than my old Roland JV-1000. All the patches are nothing short of amazing, but the Rhodes patches are absolutely perfect. I'm old enough to have bought several new Fender Rhodes pianos in the early to mid 70's, and am well familiar with the sound, this board nails it perfectly. I'm primarily a Hammond player, the 8 sliders that emulate the drawbars on a Hammond are useful, but a Hammond has 9, and the one footage Yamaha chose to omit was one of the most important ones, if one needed to be omitted, it should have been the 1 3/5' drawbar. The Leslie simulator is acceptable. You should be aware that as portables go, this one is extremely large and heavy. You should also have studio/sequencing/workstation experience and knowledge before attempting to use this board, it's tremendously complex and involved, there's virtually no end to what it will accomplish when used by someone who knows what they are doing. Most of what it will do I'll never use, all I needed was a stage piano, what I got was, well....a stage.
Comments about Yamaha MOTIF XS8 Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:
I wanted a keyboard that I could use for a while without having to upgrade soon. THIS IS THE ONE! As a composer it allows me to hear how my compositions will sound with realistic sounds! As a keyboardist, the feel is out of this world realistic. As a music teacher, I can put my whole show on this board and have a PROFESSIONAL sound. (It also saves money on studio time). I love this board!
Comments about Yamaha MOTIF XS8 Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:
This Keyboard/Workstation is absolutely the best...It does everything... records vocals, V-Coder, Sampler, The Piano is Great, Strings, Synth. sounds are the best, and the electric and Acou. guitar (Please go to your local music store and check them out) WOW!!! etc... I could go on all day. Roland (electic piano, Rhodes) and Korg only come close... But the Yamaha XS8!!!...Its number one. Warning: This keyboard is Pro level... It you don't have previous Yamaha Keyboard experience... IT WILL PROBABLY TAKE YOU ABOUT 1 1/2 YEARS TO LEARN EVERYTHING THIS BABY CAN DO!!!
Comments about Yamaha MOTIF XS8 Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:
This keyboard is simply amazing! I find new features about it everyday! I play live in a band, and it sounds incredible! The Piano sound is to DIE for!
Comments about Yamaha MOTIF XS8 Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:
Fantastic keyboard!!! I only play yamaha products and also own a yamaha studio upright and have found myself playing the motif more than the upright! The action is perfect and the sound possibilities are endless. This keyboard is perfect for the recording/performing musician.
Comments about Yamaha MOTIF XS8 Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:
I like this keyboard for a number of reasons, The first and foremost being its ease of use-I have been sequencing with workstations since 1998 and have yet to find a composition and performance tool so easy to compose and program with. The grid style sequencing makes writing verse, chorus, verse, outro pop songs a breeze, and if I want to spice things up with alternate parts/sections there are plenty of options (check out the pattern chain feature). Sequencing fans will love being able to write say a four measure drum loop and then "unloop" it allowing for say an 8-measure bassline by simply adjusting the length of the pattern! This is just one example of how the Motif is a powerful writing tool yet easy on the newbie. The sound ROM provided is more than adequate, I especially love the brass collection which features not just traditional horns and ensembles but also classic synth horns such as the Oberheims. The only category that I think needs a few more patches is the piano bank but there must be hundreds of patch upgrades in this category so no biggie. The arpegiators and provided genre-specific beats are cool but I wish that I could use more than 4 arpeggiated parts per song part. I just got this board a few months ago and so far the Motif is helping me expand my musical horizons without forcing me to think too much. I haven't even started using the sampling, vocoding, or sample-sequencer-integration modes but I'm sure they will prove to be valuable in the future. Be sure to check this board out if you are shopping for a workstation.
Comments about Yamaha MOTIF XS8 Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:
I have owned this XS8 since it first arrived on the American coast, and it still amazes me on a regular basis. The action is great and the build quality better yet...but the sounds trump these qualities 10 fold. Being afflicted with G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome), I have owned the Motif 8...then a ES8 and ES7...and now a XS8 and XS7. Yamaha just keeps outdoing themselves, and I feel that I am the recipient of all this improvement. I love my Yamaha Motifs', and the only thing on the planet that will make me sell them is the next improvement to the Motif lineage. I can sequence and sample to my hearts content, or I can cut all my chops with the most awesome backup bands...all present and waiting in the Performance mode (in fact, another source of amazement is how the Performance backup bands can always play the proper bass lines to what I comp with my left hand). And the sounds are all TOP NOTCH first call sounds, not to be bettered by either Roland (I am a longtime Fantom owner, and own a G8 as well) or Korg. The XS8 is the perfect desert island keyboard...but if you have a Hammond on that island, the XS7 fills for the ideal 2nd board. YAMAHA...you have a fan for life !!
Comments about Yamaha MOTIF XS8 Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:
The XS8 is amazing, it does everything except cook me food for long brainstorming sessions. Make sure you read the specs to see if you actually need it all. I don't even use the sampler, but the sequencer is amazing and song mode allows you to plug in a MIDI controller and play 2 instruments at once with easy volume control via the 8 sliders. You don't need a computer interface to record and mix down, it's all on the keyboard. I use this keyboard mainly for writing/recording and live performance and it's more than enough.
