See All Yamaha Keyboard Workstations
Yamaha

Yamaha's most affordable workstation with a full MOTIF XS sound engine, sequencing, MIDI control, and more.

The Yamaha MOX6 combines a MOTIF XS sound engine, a MIDI keyboard controller with extensive DAW and VST control, multi-channel USB audio interfacing, onboard sequencing, and an extensive DAW / VST software bundle. The MOX6 is the most powerful, mobile and affordable Yamaha music workstation ever.

MOTIF XS sound engine
MOX has the exact same 1,270 sounds as the acclaimed MOTIF XS covering a wide variety of music styles. Starting with the Yamaha's acclaimed Concert Grand Piano CFIII grand piano sound; all the acoustic instrument sounds (strings, brass, guitar, bass, drums and more) that made the MOTIF XS so popular are included.. Of course the 8 element Voices, 18 different filter types and extensive effects section are also great for creating the vintage analog and modern digital synthesizer sounds that are used in the electronic and hip hop music scenes. All the sounds you'll need for both live performance and music production in a variety of styles are contained in the MOX.

Performance mode to enhance your creativity
You can combine multiple Voices together (up to 4 parts) and play them on one MIDI channel in performance mode, allowing you to play dynamic layered sounds or play solos along with drums and bass backing tracks. With the interactive Arp engine, even playing simple chords or just one finger gives you complete musical performances to spark your creativity. The MOX has 256 preset performances in a wide variety of music style including Rock, World, Hip Hop Jazz, etc.

Easy operation and comprehensive controls
Category search mode makes it fast and intuitive get to your ideal instrument. 16 different instrument categories with sub-categories make it quick to get the sound you need. With the Performance Creator (a new feature taken from the S90 XS, you can easily build up layer or split Performances by a single button press. Start with a Voice you like, press LAYER and a suitable layer sound will be chosen. Press SPLIT and a left hand Bass sound is called up automatically. Go to DRUM ASSIGN and you can play along with the tons of built in rhythm patterns.

Plenty of Effets including Virtual Circuitry Modeling effects
MOX has a wide variety of effects for both the internal keyboard sounds and for use with the A/D inputs including a Vocoder for vocal formant controlled synth sounds.. Also Yamaha's proprietary VCM (Virtual Circuitry Modeling) technology that, rather than simply attempting to approach the desired sound using conventional digital audio methods, actually models the original analog circuitry — right down to the last resistor and capacitor. With the MOX, the high-quality effects found in our industry-standard digital recording consoles are at your fingertips. MOX also includes the award-winning "REV-X" reverb, the same professionally renowned reverb found in the SPX2000.

Sequencer mode to build up your inspiration as quickly as possible
MOX features a built-in sequencer which lets you produce high-quality music productions without the need for a computer or any other external devices. The sequencer features both real-time recording, which records your performance data as you play it, and Step recording, which is suitable for recording precise phrases or other difficult passages. Moreover, you can use the creative inspiration from Performances and directly record them to a Song/Pattern simply by pressing the [REC] button. After creating the outline in a matter of seconds you can easily edit and refine your song to final completion right on the MOX. MOX features 6,720 types of arppegiator patterns which contains all the phrase of instruments, so you can easily add additional part onto your song data.

A single USB cable for both Audio and MIDI connections
A single USB cable lets you integrate both Audio and MIDI with your MAC or PC computer. MOX has a built-in 4-in 2-out USB audio interface so you can record MOX's internal sound directly to your MAC or PC. Two dedicated audio inputs can be used to recording guitars and vocals into your computer. Compatible with all the major DAWs including Cubase, you can digitally record the sounds of the MOX and anything connected to the stereo analog inputs directly to your favorite DAW. Not only for music production, the USB connectivity and in-depth keyboard controller functionality lets you also playback and control your VST soft synths via the audio outputs of your MOX, allowing you to easily integrate VSTs into your live stage shows with no extra gear- just add computer and play.

Bundled software and editors
The MOX comes bundled with a 48-track version of Steinberg's Cubase AI software, Prologue, Steinberg's VA soft synth for vintage analog synth sounds and a new Yamaha Organ YC-3B "Clonewheel" organ emulation VST. (The installer package of Soft synthesizers is available at yamahasynth.com) Dedicated Editor Software lets you easily edit your MOX just like a soft synthesizer. In fact, by using the MOX Editor VST, you can turn the MOX into a hardware accelerated VSTi. Combined with Media Bay in Cubase, you can categorize and select MOX's sound from a unified universal library of all your VST sounds. There is even a special editor for setting up the MIDI keyboard controls and remote functions. The MOX is the latest and best example of Yamaha's commitment to integrating our keyboards into the computer music production environment.
88-key Graded Hammer Standard(GHS) action, and new 61-key semi-weighted action
The MOX6 features a newly developed, 61-key, semi-weighted keyboard. The keyboard has been designed and adjusted so that you easily and expressively play the rich variety of sounds of the instrument.

Mobility – Light and easy to carry
The MOX6's lightweight body (15.4 lbs, 6: 7kg), makes it easy to carry the MOX6 to rehearsals or gigs and make it pound-for-pound the most powerful workstation Yamaha has ever made. Both the MOX6 and MOX8 are 50% lighter in weight than the comparable MOTIF models.

Comments about Yamaha MOX6 61-Key Semi-Weighted Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

I needed a keyboard that didn't weigh a ton and sounded good. This keyboard fit the bill. I like the semi weighted keys, ease of learning functions, especially the layer function. Also i like the full and deep sound it can make.

Comments about Yamaha MOX6 61-Key Semi-Weighted Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

(I'm and engineer.) Got it when it first came out because I really wanted great sounds without having to power up the DAW. Love the MOTIF sound generator. It is nice having a fine piano handy and I can drive it with midi from my weighted midi piano. Also has an audio in - so it gets the mixer out for vocals. Now the MOX is the main audio out driving the monitors. (I have noticed the drive level to the monitors is not quite as high as I'd expect even with everything set to max - no real problem though.)

But I also have it tied into the DAW (Sonar X1). There have been firmware and driver updates and I've kept it up to date. I have had it lock up on me (without the DAW) a couple times but then it has been powered up 24/7 for a couple years now! Surprisingly no problems at all with USB - effectively the MOX6 acts like an ASIO sound card in this configuration - having output for the keyboard as well as the keyboard audio in. You have to live with 44.1kHz though. And there is no syncing to other ASIO devices - it is just the MOX by itself.

The feel of the keyboard is OK - I've felt better. But I use it every day and it has held up well. Wish there was aftertouch though. I have not used the control surface because I have a better control surface with sliders that the MOX does not have.

Yamaha provides a PC based programmer which is pretty slick. The number of features & sounds on this keyboard is ridiculous and the programmer can really help sort things out. They also provide it as a VST3 plugin. Cubase supports VST3 but Sonar doesn't (com'on Cakewalk).

For me it is the sound quality and the available sounds. I can find almost anything I want. And if I was up to it, program even more sounds.

            Just like my XS-6...Only Better!

Comments about Yamaha MOX6 61-Key Semi-Weighted Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

I had been using my Motif XS-6 in my studio for well over a year, and had created over 500 jingles and ads for customers. But, didn't want to haul it to live gigs (which I just began playing at). Bought the MOX6 and, to my surprise, it's really an XS-6 in "disguise". The voice references (line "PDRA4") are exactly the same, AS IS THE SOUND (I played them side-by-side before I sold my XS-6 and they have identical sound).
But best of all, the MOX6 has the ability to call up favorite voices WHILE YOU'RE PLAYING, transpose with the touch of a switch, change octaves similarly, and adjust volume on the fly (with an FC-7 pedal (or a clone; see Brodafin's YouTube Channel)). You can still change the voice parameters as with the XS-6. Haven't yet used the MIDI or direct-connect to computer but, from the literature, this seems as easy as ever.
The only downside (if you can call it that) is the MOX6 uses an external power cube. Looks a little cheesy on stage, and the thin cord from the cube to the connector is a pain. But the tradeoff of a lighter keyboard is well worth it.
Unless you're a very serious musician who needs the incredible composition features of the Motif, I'd suggest the MOX at a fraction of the price!

Comments about Yamaha MOX6 61-Key Semi-Weighted Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

Being familiar with and having played the Motif classis, ES and XS i can say that soundwise this keyboard is a beast. Sounds exactly the same as the XS(to my ears). There's a wide arsenal to sounds to choose from. My only dissapointment as it comes to sounds are the electric guitars. They aren't quite on the same level as Roland's but with a little tweaking they're good. This is my first personal Workstation and i'm still learning new things about this beast. Buy it... You will not be disappointed.

              Lots of Fun

              By Michael Drew

              from Midwest

Comments about Yamaha MOX6 61-Key Semi-Weighted Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

Bought the Yamaha MOX6 recently and it is an amazing machine. Sounds are great and the features are very plentiful. This represented a MAJOR upgrade for me and is the first "big boy" synth I've had, so I've still got a lot to learn about it. At this point I've tried all the major features (voice mode, master mode, using the sequencer, creating songs/patterns, and hooking it up to the included Cubase AI5 software) and was able to work though the examples in the operators manual without any problem. It would be nice if they provided a printed version of the Data List and the Reference Manual (available in PDF format on the CD and download) but not a huge deal to print it out yourself. The keyboard came with CUBASE AI5, which is actually an older version of CUBASE since 6.5 is out now, but that wasn't a problem for me as my intention was to install it on a small Netbook running Windows 7 Starter (32 bit) so the lower system requirements of AI5 was actually a plus for me. The software was able to install on this operating system and is functional, but I haven't pushed it too far yet to see how it will hold up with the fact that it is a low powered computer. Obviously not the most ideal computer for a DAW workstation, but works great for portability since my main PC is not in my music studio.

              The MoX series

Comments about Yamaha MOX6 61-Key Semi-Weighted Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

Overall, it's afforable, mobile, and great sounding!
The features on the MoX6 are simple for creating performances. However, the complexity of mastering the whole workstation is a consideration that may/may not lead you away. I am having trouble with editing voices, and its very simple on the MM but, the MM6 has less features. If you are looking for great sounds and already performace modes, this machine is it! Also, this keyboard comes equipped with an audio-interface built in! This means recording through computer software is another option. Cubase and YC-3B organ comes bundled, however, this adds to the complexity of the workstation.
The down is the plastic outside surfaces; it is squeezable (something to consider when carrying from place to place). Overall the sounds are incredibly stored in such a compact affordable synthesiser.
It is not a Motif, but it is capable of reproducing the same warm and low frequency sounds.

              Fantastic! Just plain fantastic!

              By Polyphonist

              from Arizona

Comments about Yamaha MOX6 61-Key Semi-Weighted Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

It leaves nothing to be desired.
I bought this keyboard as soon as it became availlable. I had a MM6 but it was dreadfully limited, basically useless for me, and after a couple of hours of playing with it, I was looking for something more flexible. The MOX6 is everything I ever want and need, and then some. For starters, it sounds MUCH better than the MM6 (which actually has SOME decent sounds) and has a wastly bigger, and totally useful sound library. No comparison here, and as opposed to the MM6, the patterns and arps are very useful, and can easily be tweaked to suit whatever one is doing. This keyboard is as satisfying as the MM6 was frustrating, which is saying a lot! It is a massively capable workstation for not much money, and I don't see any reason whatsoever to buy anything else. Try it or just buy it. Its simply great in every way! There is no way you'll be disapointed. No way!
              For the price? Excellent!
No question, it's an absolute bargain!
