1217 Voices and 355MB of waveforms taken directly from the Motif XS, plus cross-platform virtual instruments, and audio interface.

The Yamaha MOX8 combines a MOTIF XS sound engine, a MIDI keyboard controller with extensive DAW and VST control, multi-channel USB audio interfacing, onboard sequencing, and an extensive DAW / VST software bundle. The MOX8 is the most powerful, mobile and affordable Yamaha music workstation ever.

      MOTIF XS sound engine
MOX has the exact same 1,270 sounds as the acclaimed MOTIF XS covering a wide variety of music styles. Starting with the Yamaha's acclaimed Concert Grand Piano CFIII grand piano sound; all the acoustic instrument sounds (strings, brass, guitar, bass, drums and more) that made the MOTIF XS so popular are included.. Of course the 8 element Voices, 18 different filter types and extensive effects section are also great for creating the vintage analog and modern digital synthesizer sounds that are used in the electronic and hip hop music scenes. All the sounds you'll need for both live performance and music production in a variety of styles are contained in the MOX.

Performance mode to enhance your creativity
You can combine multiple Voices together (up to 4 parts) and play them on one MIDI channel in performance mode, allowing you to play dynamic layered sounds or play solos along with drums and bass backing tracks. With the interactive Arp engine, even playing simple chords or just one finger gives you complete musical performances to spark your creativity. The MOX has 256 preset performances in a wide variety of music style including Rock, World, Hip Hop Jazz, etc.

      Easy operation and comprehensive controls
Category search mode makes it fast and intuitive get to your ideal instrument. 16 different instrument categories with sub-categories make it quick to get the sound you need. With the Performance Creator (a new feature taken from the S90 XS, you can easily build up layer or split Performances by a single button press. Start with a Voice you like, press LAYER and a suitable layer sound will be chosen. Press SPLIT and a left hand Bass sound is called up automatically. Go to DRUM ASSIGN and you can play along with the tons of built in rhythm patterns.

Plenty of Effets including Virtual Circuitry Modeling effects
MOX has a wide variety of effects for both the internal keyboard sounds and for use with the A/D inputs including a Vocoder for vocal formant controlled synth sounds.. Also Yamaha's proprietary VCM (Virtual Circuitry Modeling) technology that, rather than simply attempting to approach the desired sound using conventional digital audio methods, actually models the original analog circuitry — right down to the last resistor and capacitor. With the MOX, the high-quality effects found in our industry-standard digital recording consoles are at your fingertips. MOX also includes the award-winning "REV-X" reverb, the same professionally renowned reverb found in the SPX2000.

Sequencer mode to build up your inspiration as quickly as possible
MOX features a built-in sequencer which lets you produce high-quality music productions without the need for a computer or any other external devices. The sequencer features both real-time recording, which records your performance data as you play it, and Step recording, which is suitable for recording precise phrases or other difficult passages. Moreover, you can use the creative inspiration from Performances and directly record them to a Song/Pattern simply by pressing the [REC] button. After creating the outline in a matter of seconds you can easily edit and refine your song to final completion right on the MOX. MOX features 6,720 types of arppegiator patterns which contains all the phrase of instruments, so you can easily add additional part onto your song data.

A single USB cable for both Audio and MIDI connections
A single USB cable lets you integrate both Audio and MIDI with your MAC or PC computer. MOX has a built-in 4-in 2-out USB audio interface so you can record MOX's internal sound directly to your MAC or PC. Two dedicated audio inputs can be used to recording guitars and vocals into your computer. Compatible with all the major DAWs including Cubase, you can digitally record the sounds of the MOX and anything connected to the stereo analog inputs directly to your favorite DAW. Not only for music production, the USB connectivity and in-depth keyboard controller functionality lets you also playback and control your VST soft synths via the audio outputs of your MOX, allowing you to easily integrate VSTs into your live stage shows with no extra gear- just add computer and play.

      Bundled software and editors
The MOX comes bundled with a 48-track version of Steinberg's Cubase AI software, Prologue, Steinberg's VA soft synth for vintage analog synth sounds and a new Yamaha Organ YC-3B "Clonewheel" organ emulation VST. (The installer package of Soft synthesizers is available at yamahasynth.com) Dedicated Editor Software lets you easily edit your MOX just like a soft synthesizer. In fact, by using the MOX Editor VST, you can turn the MOX into a hardware accelerated VSTi. Combined with Media Bay in Cubase, you can categorize and select MOX's sound from a unified universal library of all your VST sounds. There is even a special editor for setting up the MIDI keyboard controls and remote functions. The MOX is the latest and best example of Yamaha's commitment to integrating our keyboards into the computer music production environment.

88-key Graded Hammer Standard(GHS) action, and new 61-key semi-weighted action
The MOX8 features an 88-key GHS keyboard. This feature provides authentic, realistic keyboard response—much like the playing feel of an acoustic piano—with the lower keys being heavy in touch, the higher keys light, and all the natural gradations in between. The keyboard has been designed and adjusted so that you easily and expressively play the rich variety of sounds of the instrument.

Mobility – Light and easy to carry
The MOX8's lightweight body (32.6 lb., 14.8kg) makes it easy to carry it to rehearsals or gigs, making it pound-for-pound the most powerful workstation Yamaha has ever made. Both the MOX6 and MOX8 are 50% lighter in weight than the comparable MOTIF models.

Comments about Yamaha MOX8 88-Key Graded Hammer Action Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

The MOX8 sounds amazing! Best sounds I have heard on a keyboard and I have been around the block. The front panel is very simple to understand, espcially if you are a Yamaha user. I owned a MO6 previous so it was easy for me to make the transition. But thats where the comparison stops. Just a total upgrade. Some have said it has a plastic feel? I dont get that asumption. It is very well made and very solid. I could not be happier with my purchase. Thanks Yamaha!!!!!

Comments about Yamaha MOX8 88-Key Graded Hammer Action Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

Purchased this to be an eventual replacement for my Alesis QS8. It has great action and that's important to me. I bought it as a "Re-Stock" but there is no indication it was ever used so it is "good as new" as far as I am concerned. I did a lot of research before this purchase and with the lower "Re-Stock" price plus a 20% off promotion, I got what I think is a great bargain. Free shipping and no tax were also a huge plus. I will use this board a lot and am having a lot of fun discovering just what this baby can do. It's a Motif without the added thousands.

Comments about Yamaha MOX8 88-Key Graded Hammer Action Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

I have owned both the MO8 and the Motif XS8, and I have to say that I really enjoyed the MOX8. It has all of the voices as the XS8 (including 4 independent arpeggiators per performance voice), but it weighs less than the MO8! It is probably the lightest 88 key weighted keyboard I have ever played (or moved!). I love the Transpose and Octave keys that have been added to the surface. The screen lets you know their value when pressed, and the buttons light up to indicate that the keyboard is not in its natural state. Also, just like the XS8, each individual part of a performance voice can be tweaked in real time using the part swith and the knobs. Unlike the XS8, it does not have aftertouch (but none of the XS8 voices used aftertouch anyway). The USB capabilities actually exceed those found on the XS8, including the ability to digitally transfer the audio output of the synth plus two analog inputs to the computer, but the USB is not as robust as the XS8's firewire/mLan capabilities--Firewire on the XF8 is an add on feature. The biggest disappointement to me about this keyboard (and it is a relatively small one) is the lack of part sliders that are standard features on other motif boards (including the MO8). The work around is to use the previously mentioned Performance Part selector, but that is much more inconvenient than the sliders were. One last thing: If you are a Cubase user, Yamaha's purchase of Steinberg means that the software interface between Cubase and the synth is very robust although it is also possible to use your computer to program and manage the MOX8 without using Cubase. In the end, this is not an XS8 or an XF8, but there are several things I actually prefer about the MOX8 (weight and the transpose buttons). But for 80% of the capabilities at less than 1/2 the price, it is pretty hard to go wrong with the MOX8!

Comments about Yamaha MOX8 88-Key Graded Hammer Action Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

I was considering the Korg M50 88 Key .....and the Yamaha MOX8......I played them side by side at the guitar center.....wow.....what a difference in quailty all around. Beginning with the build and ending with the refined sounds and graded hammer action......there was no comparason for me....this synth is absolutely fantastic. Touch is great....and the sounds are very refined....the interface is a little harder to work with and the technical manual is not as clear as others I have read ....but it gives enough information to get where you want to be....I came from a Roland Fantom and a Korg 264 ....both workstations......and I was tired of both......the MOX8 makes me want to play again.....every day......great instrument......mike

This Thing Is A Beast! <3

            By C Dee

            from Louisiana

Comments about Yamaha MOX8 88-Key Graded Hammer Action Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

I haven't had the MOX long enough to get into everything this synthesizer workstation has to offer but it will do everything you need to do musically, especially if you're new into the workstation world or looking for an alternative to the pricey Motif series. This thing has the same insides as a Motif XS but put in a more intuitive packaging so you are getting very usuable quality sounds that is extremely easy to use. I've heard people complaining about the 64 polyphony in the comments of Youtube videos and obviously they don't know what they're doing with their lives because connected to a computer (which the MOX easily does) you can free up polyphony on the keyboard very easy. Being a relatively new synthesizer out, there isn't a whole lot of coverage on it so one recommended, what I now consider a necessary accessory would be the 'Discovering The Yamaha MOX' DVD from KEYFAX Media. It's 2 1/2 hours long and seriously my jaw is still dropped at the potential you can unleash using this moderately priced workstation. I've owned a good amount of music gear and I always find something that I can complain about eventually but with the MOX, I finally made a noteworthy purchase hence this review. Seriously if you are looking for something undisputedly worth your money then buy this especially if you can't see yourself forking over $2500 and up for the Motif series or equivalent.

Comments about Yamaha MOX8 88-Key Graded Hammer Action Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

This is currently the best keyboard for the money. Extraordinarily high quality sounds and a vast amount of performance and recording features. It offers 88 graded weighted keys in a 32 lb package. I am very happy with the keyboard.
I had many requirements of a new keyboard: excellent acoustic piano, electric piano, and organ tones, 88 weighted keys, and light enough to easily transport to gigs. I considered the Korg SV1, Roland RD300 and RD700, Kurzweil PC3 as well as the Nord Electro 3 and Electro 3HP. Each has their own merits, but the Yamaha is the best combination of sound, keybed, and weight. There is nothing on the market that comes close to the MOX8 features in a 32 lb package.
The keyboard sounds fantastic. All of the acoustic pianos, electric pianos, and organs that I regularly use are extremely accurate. There are over 1000 sounds in the keyboard. It has every type of tone you could possibly want (strings, brass, guitars, bass, synth, drums, sound effects). Some reviews complain about the plastic case. There is no way you could make this keybaord 32 lbs without a thinner case than some other keyboards. However, it looks fine, appears high quality and will hold up as long as you don't abuse it.

Depending on your needs, you can choose the 61 key synth keyboard (MOX6) or the 88 key weighted keyboard (MOX8). The weighted keyboard doesn't feel as accurate as some 60 lb stage pianos, however it is a nice action.
This is a bargain. I strongly considered the Nord Electro 3 HP which is more than the MOX8. I use the MOX8 as a stage piano. However, you also get all of the performance and recording functions of a workstation. The sounds come from the Motif XS.

Comments about Yamaha MOX8 88-Key Graded Hammer Action Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

Well, I'm back to make a more definitive, positive review of the Yamaha MOX8. My church purchased this keyboard (workstation) back in April. Now that I've had several months to use it every week, this is by far the best keyboard I have ever played on (and I've been playing for 15+ years). I haven't had any time to plug it up to a computer and test it out as far as it DAW capability, but getting on YouTube and watching demos, this thing is a monster (in a very good way). Since I am the main player at my church, I just can't even begin to tell you how pleased I am with the MOX8. You can go through the voice, favorite them, then with a touch of a button, bring up your favorites list and choose your voice. It has enough memory that you can record your own songs should you choose not to plug up via USB to a computer. It also records MIDI via USB, which is a plus! All in all, if you can't afford a MOTIF, but should happen to have enough money for this, I would highly recommend buying the MOX8.
            Too many to list!
Excellent build, very light! The only thing I recommend is that you buy a a case for this bad boy should you decide to take it touring!
I think for the price, this is an amazing keyboard!

            Great Buy

Comments about Yamaha MOX8 88-Key Graded Hammer Action Music Production Synthesizer Workstation:

I used to have a Yamaha S90ES which is great keyboard but impossible to lug around for gigs. I bought a Korg M50 61 key but hate the feel of the semi-weighted keys and generally didn't like the piano sounds. I was looking for a keyboard that was portable enough to gig with but sounds professionals and has fully weighted keys. Its rare to find a board thats fully weighted and not super heavy. So I was initially considering a nord electro / stage or a korg sv-1. Both of which are great keyboards but I stumbled on the MOX8 and found that it has loads more sounds and features at literally half the price. I could not resist it completely fulfilled my needs. Plus its super light (around 34 pounds) for a fully weighted board. As I said earlier, I wish it had an SD card slot but it completely filled my needs - great sounds / features, fully weighted, super portable - and an unbeatable price. I recommend you check it out.
It comes with a lot of great features such as the classic great variety of yamaha sounds. I particularly like the ease of creating performances - spliting or layering. Theres the on board sequencer, equalizer and effects. Also comes with software. Honestly, the one thing I wish it had that would make it a complete workstation is a slot for an sd card and expansion options.
Its a sturdy board but however to make it lighter the casing of the board is definetely not as thick as other boards but if you take care of it, it should last a long time with no problems.
Overall great value. At this price you'll be hard pressed to find a new workstation.
