OVERVIEW

A Universe of Sounds from a Decade of MOTIFs

The keyboard
The Yamaha Motif is among the most respected keyboards of the current century. Through its many reincarnations, it has always been among the most revered instruments in professional stage and studio keyboard performance. The Yamaha MOXF6 is the latest iteration of this noble tradition, and stands again as a model of sonic excellence and technical functionality.

The sounds
Yamaha has updated the popular MOX Series with the latest MOTIF XF technology by adding more sounds, more effects and even a Flash board option slot. Because it's compatible with MOTIF XF and MOX data, the MOXF has a huge collection of sound and sample libraries and optional software available right out of the box. Expandable, portable, affordable, and compatible with a wide range of other products, these instruments bring MOTIF music production power to a whole new generation of musicians and producers.

The MOXF boasts a rich collection of instrument voices that includes pianos, electric pianos, strings, wind instruments, orchestral sounds, guitars, basses, and drums, as well as a wide variety of vintage and modern synth sounds. Of special note are the detailed digital re-creations of two Yamaha grand pianos (a 9-ft CFIIIS and a 7-ft S6) that only an acoustic piano manufacturer could achieve. The finely-detailed reproduction of even very subtle nuances has resulted in exquisitely crafted piano voices that will satisfy even the most demanding players.

Now containing a huge total of 741 MB of waveforms, and featuring all-new content, the MOXF offers 136 new voices including the superb S6 grand piano, keyboard sounds such as clavinets and organs, and a range of new sounds from genres as diverse as orchestral and hip-hop. Yamaha's proprietary VCM (Virtual Circuitry Modeling) technology simulates the effects of vintage EQs, compressors, and phasers at the circuit level.

This technology has enabled Yamaha to improve the quality of the instruments in the MOXF by modeling the sonic texture of vintage analog compressors, EQs and stomp boxes right down to their component transistors and resistors. The MOXF also puts the high-quality effects found in Yamaha's industry-standard digital recording consoles at your fingertips, as well as the award-winning REV-X reverb found in the SPX2000. It even comes equipped with vocoder effects, allowing you to connect a microphone to the MOXF's A/D input terminal and apply effects to your voice or create stunning harmonies.

Sequencer
MOXF features a built-in sequencer that lets you produce high-quality music without the need for a computer or any other external devices. This powerful tool offers both real-time recording, which records your performance data as you play it, and
step recording, which is suitable for recording precise phrases or other difficult passages. You can even record particularly creative performances directly to a song or pattern simply by pressing the REC button.

The instrument
Category search mode features 16 different instrument categories, each with its own sub-categories, so getting the sound you need is a fast and intuitive process. With Performance Creator you can easily build up layer or split performances with a single button press. Start with a voice you like, and then press LAYER to have the MOXF choose a suitable layer sound. Press SPLIT to call up a left hand bass sound automatically, and then go to DRUM ASSIGN to access the huge variety of built-in rhythm patterns available.

Meanwhile, the MOXF6 offers a 61-key, semi-weighted keyboard that has been designed and adjusted so that you can easily and expressively play the rich variety of sounds the instrument offers. 88-key Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) action and 61-key semi-weighted action A lightweight body (MOXF6: 7.1kg (15.7lbs), MOXF8: 14.9kg (32.9lbs)) means that carrying the MOXF to rehearsals or gigs is easy- pound-for-pound these are the most powerful workstations Yamaha has ever made. Both models are 50% lighter than comparable MOTIF models.

Comments about Yamaha MOXF6 61-Key Semi-Weighted Synth:

This unit is used in a professional studio setting and the sounds and voices it produces are world class. Much attention was paid to the incredibly accurate sounds the moXF6 produces. The intended purpose for this workstation/synth was to use it as a DAW controller, but the moXF6 does not play well with my Logic Pro X DAW. Cannot use Transport Controls on moXF6 to control my DAW. On the upside however, the ability to use USB and Flash storage is very nice. The Semi-Weighted Keys have a solid feel and respond well. A much better feel and response than other spring-loaded keys and is preferable over fully weighted and graded keys for speed and long work days. Editing is very easy and you can change the voice parameters on-the-fly. Ability to save all your Favorite Voices in one place is welcomed. Overall incredible synth... I only hope for an update to allow better use with the Logic Pro X DAW as a workstation.

Comments about Yamaha MOXF6 61-Key Semi-Weighted Synth:

For me Yamaha MOXF6 is a good choice at its price and weight range.
First, it is portable.
Second, it ships with the newest sound library from Yamaha.
Third, it is expandable with flash memory.

I used to own a lot of workstation keyboards, such as Roland Fantom X6/Juno-G/Stage, Korg PS60/Microstation and Kurzweil K2600S. So far I'm very happy with my new Yamaha MOXF6.

Comments about Yamaha MOXF6 61-Key Semi-Weighted Synth:

I've had my MOXF6 for about 8 mos now and overall I'm quite pleased. Of course you can get out and gig/play all the presets right out of the box but if you really want to dive into this thing be forewarned, there is a steep learning curve and it takes time and patience. But I feel it is well worth it in the end. I've had other keyboard players come up to me at live gigs and say how impressed they were by the sound of the Yamaha. Being able to purchase the voice libraries is HUGE to me as a performing musician who needs a particular patch now! Having the flash expansion is also a huge plus. One thing that I didn't appreciate from Yamaha was having to purchase 2 discs to really learn how to use this synth. Overall I'm very happy with the MOXF6.

I was pleasantly surprised how good this moxf6 sounds !!
I'm use to a korg which to me is much easier to pull up a sound , But luckily the Yamaha lets you store favorites , Which helps. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it soon enough.

      Comments about Yamaha MOXF6 61-Key Semi-Weighted Synth:

As a guitar player, I needed a keyboard so that I could improve my songwriting and music theory approach for my guitar playing. I had no idea what I was getting into when I talked my wife into getting me my birthday present so that we could both play an instrument while I was playing guitar.

First as a keyboard synth, the MOXF61 is outstanding. It plays well, and the sounds, programming and edit changes, and effects processing are seemingly endless. I am going to really enjoy learning how to play "keys".

I say "keys" because I am a guitarist, not a pianist. For a guitarist, I found that the MOXF61 offers me something I did not expect. With the USB audio interface, it has allowed me a new stereo guitar amplifier rig with a Yamaha SPX 2000 effect processor built in.

I was not expecting this when my wife and I purchased this unit. I found it out as I was learning how to use the instrument. Just set the A/D input to line, send a direct line out from my guitar amp into a small mixer, jack the mixer to audio inputs of the MOXF61, the audio output from the MOXF61 to a stereo amp, and presto you have an outstanding stereo guitar amp rig with all of the effects processing power of a Yamaha SPX 2000. Serious bang for the buck.

Now I just need to learn how to play "piano" better but I am having a hard time because I am just loving the sounds I am getting on my new stereo guitar amp rig.

I have never made a musical instrument purchase that has been a better deal then Yamaha MOXF61! I just love it for both "keys" and guitar!

        Comments about Yamaha MOXF6 61-Key Semi-Weighted Synth:

I only got this keyboard a few days ago, it sounds very nice. A little learning curve, once you learn a little is not difficult, but I have a Tyros 3; before that I had a Tyros 1
The keyboard is lightweight, that is main reason I considered this keyboard. I am using it to midi a Ketron Audya 4,(an arranger module) the set-up is coming along fine. I am going back and forth with Yamaha support, they are very helpful. The only problem I am having right now is to set-up a system that will make it easy to find a file. After using the Tyros for many years I got spoiled the Tyros has a great filing system I use Registrations, I name registrations after a song, I just need to find the song I want to play and just press one button and I am ready to go. The system is set in alphabetic order so it is easy to work with. The Audya has the same set-up. The MXOF ,I am told by Yamaha, that I can't operate this keyboard the same way, it doesn't have any way I can list the files, performances etc. in alphabetic order. I think this is crazy and I am surprised at Yamaha, I play and sing hundreds of songs, How am going to find the correct set- up in a live situation? I hope they can come up with a workable solution. This just doesn't make sense, any computer has an alphabetic system, why this system doesn't? If I edit 100 performances to suit my needs how am I going to find them in a live situation? Maybe I need to find a way to trigger the sounds from the Audya! I like the sound of this keyboard!

                    Comments about Yamaha MOXF6 61-Key Semi-Weighted Synth:

This is first synth with arpegios. It will be used along with my old Trinity-61. It is loaded with wonderful modern synth sounds, as well as some nice older analog sounds. The arpeggios are endless, it seems. I also love having the sequencer with a helpful pattern recording capability.
