Comments about NP11 61-Key Digital Piano w/ Yamaha D2 Survival Kit, Bench, Stand, & Headphones:
Okay. The truth about this "Digital Piano". It's very light weight and it only has five octaves. So if you are an intermediate piano player, it would not do for you.
The action, it has no action. It feels more like a keyboard. The only difference is that it has a feature where you can control how loud the "piano" sounds based on how hard you hit the notes. But don't be mistaken, the notes do not become harder to press. It's just that you have to hit them hard, medium or soft for them to produce their full sound spectrum. If you want the weight-hammer key feel of a piano, you will not get it with this one.
The accessories that come with the "Digital Piano" are very good. The stand and the bench are great. I believe they are Music Gear brand. It also comes with a Music Gear pair of over the head headphones. The pinao sounds better with them, and even though the Yamaha survivor kit comes with a pair of over the head headphones, the Music Gear one are alot better. It also comes with some Yamaha DVD, and I believe there is a software too. The sustain pedal is very cheap, but get the job done. You may want to upgrade that if you are picky or know your stuff.
The settings are not complicated, but they are not easy to use unless you memorize what every single key on the piano will do for programing purposes or you will have to have the quick reference guide or the manual handy to change some settings. It would have been nice if Yamaha would have put some label on top of the piano, where the piano keys are, like they did with the deomo songs numbers so people would not have to be looking at a book everytime they wanted to change some simple settings.
If you want details about what features and settings you can do, just read the manual or the specs posted in this website or Yamaha's.
Overall, this is a great buy at a great price. You just have to take it for what it is and you should not be dissapointed. Remember, it looks like a piano, it sounds like one, but it is more like a good looking mini "want to be piano" which keyboard personality.
