OVERVIEW

Ultra-portable, entry-level digital piano with Yamaha's acclaimed stereo-sampled grand piano sound.

The Yamaha NP11 is a 61-key digital piano that takes Piaggero's signature concept of slim, light, and compact to a new level. It features high-quality voices that sound more realistic than ever before, and a wide variety of simple, user-friendly functions. With Yamaha's renowned digital expertise and quality craftsmanship, the NP11 was designed and built with the beginner in mind. Its inspiring expressive sound, touch-sensite keys, and easy portability (thanks to a mere 11 lb. weight and battery power) make it the perfect practice instrument that you can take with you anywhere you go. Try that with a 9-foot Steinway.

Slim, light, and compact design
Walk in, carrying the NP11 with one hand, and play anywhere thanks to the new slim, light and compact design-it's that easy.

Piano-style keyboard
The NP11 has a 61-key piano-style keyboard with touch sensitivity. The lighter feel of the keys and dynamic expression provided by velocity-sensing keys makes it easier for beginning students to overcome the physical difficulties of learning piano while learning to play expressively. This facilitates a more natural transition to the weighted keys of more advanced keyboards or the action of an acoustic piano.

Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) stereo sampling
AWM is a stereo sampling technique that creates superb wave data, which mirrors the sound and expression of the original instrument. It creates a unique, rich sound by using multiple waveforms. On an actual piano, the attack and harmonics of notes change as they are played at different volumes. AWM emulates this by substituting appropriate waveforms when keys are struck with varying intensity. This enables you to have a more realistic musical experience as you progress.

Built-in stereo speaker system
The NP11 uses a highly efficient stereo amplifier that generates a solid sound that's unexpected in such a slim, light, and compact digital piano. With 2.5 watts per channel, the Piaggero NP 11 is ready to go, whenever you are.

Piano preset songs
These presets provide performance data for piano songs as well as voice demo songs, for your listening pleasure.

Battery power or AC adaptor
The NP11 can be used with an AC adaptor [PA-130 (see #336005) not included] or alkaline batteries (not included) for up to 6-hours and more. Battery-power is the key to the Piaggero's portability.

Auto Power Off mode
This is a new, eco-friendly mode. The NP11 comes with a function that turns off the power automatically if the keyboard has not been used for a set amount of time (30 minutes) in order to avoid using power unnecessarily. This enables longer battery life.

Note: This keyboard does not ship with batteries or a power supply. We enthusiastically recommend the Yamaha SK-B2 Survival Kit, which contains the appropriate power supply for your keyboard, as well as a set of headphones, a footswitch, an extended warranty, rebate coupons and helpful software. #H65815

This is the piano for me.

I was in despair since getting even an upright into this apartment looked hopeless, and the quality I had come to expect from keyboards was pretty trashy. This is true piano sound. Frankly, I could care less about extended midi instruments. I have software that purportedly would take care of that if I were interested.

The last time I heard a piano sound this good was New Years Eve 1961 in Kalamazoo -- and that was an upright grand.

If you live where you hear the neighbors every move, you will find earphones keep them from hearing you. Either get the kind with a 1/4" plug or get an adapter for less than two bucks somewhere.
I haven't explored the digital transformations. Maybe eventually. I am pleased that a proper set of piano pedal equivalents can be added.

Incidentally, read the directions and turn off the power saving mode or your activities will be rudely interrupted.

The keys respond to playing with perfect variations in volume.
The additional features cannot matter as much as the quality of the core music on the most basic settings. This sounds like the upright grand I played as a child, and if that's more credible, just like my music teacher's piano.

The keys feel right too. Over the entire range, the tone and voice are perfect copies of a very good piano.

The thing is obviously sturdy, but light enough that I could lift it to the table where I use it. The holder for sheet music is not terribly attractive but does its job.
I've shopped for a piano equivalent off and on for years. Most of the versions I have sampled in stores cost much more, but worse, did not sound at all like a piano. The volume is not suppressed although you can use earphones to create room silence.

I spent a while looking for a light weight piano upon which I could practice some classical pieces. This nearly fits the bill, but not quite. Mozart, Haydn and even early Beethoven used a five octave keyboard, but it stretched from F-f''', not C-c'''. So it's no good for playing their music. It's the compass of a Hammond organ, so you can play that sort of stuff, but it's no good for practicing classical music.

Comments about Yamaha NP11 61-Key Piaggero Digital Piano:

I am a drummer, but my parents and son are piano and organ performers. I purchased this product for my son. He is 14 years old. He is appreciating all it's options, sounds and feel. My father tested it and found its feel good and sound very good. Has 2 MIDI ports. This is quite useful for recording and composition using finale.

Comments about Yamaha NP11 61-Key Piaggero Digital Piano:

I felt I wanted try something new like a solid digital piano after playing just guitar for decades. Chosen because of its clean look, and ambient acoustical piano sound. It's got several voicings. And a adjustable metronome which could be louder, than maxed. Most of the perimeter tweaking is by holding down a button while using the note keys demonstrated by the instruction manual. I requested the survival kit for convenient accessibility to the exact power cable. The tiny lil dampen/sustain pedal in the survival kit ceased working after 2 days of playing- plastic. However mf sells real dampen/susain pedal gear...

Comments about Yamaha NP11 61-Key Piaggero Digital Piano:

I bought this for gigs with limited stage room width. I use a synth on the top tier for other sounds but needed a good Piano sound on a 61 Key wide board. Roll the mids back a little and it is great for Piano on the bottom tier. I have an 88 Key Yamaha for Piano but whenever I get a gig with a small stage I get this one out. Price is right, sound is good, touch is not too bad. I really like it. A while back our Bass Player was off and we hired a Keyboard Player and I played Bass. He liked it better that my 88 Key!!

Comments about Yamaha NP11 61-Key Piaggero Digital Piano:

Wow! Occasionally, I come across music gear that makes me smile every time I use it. This Yamaha Piaggero is one of those rare finds. After returning two other keyboards, I bought this 61-key wonder. If you're looking for a portable with a realistic piano sound and feel, go no further.

I needed a small piano for MIDI data entry with my composition software. Having something on my desk for daily practice was an added bonus. I didn't need one of the mass-market toys with all the controls of a space craft. Also, I tried a couple of great MIDI keyboards, but neither had the weighted action of a piano and they required booting my computer, loading software, and doing a few programming steps just to make music... not my idea of convenient. Sometimes, less really is more.

At just a few pounds, the Piagerro is super light. The AA batteries work fine, but I bought the optional and inexpensive AC power supply for daily use. The MIDI in/out couldn't be simpler for notation entry and it's exactly what I needed. For performance, it has the typical 1/4" out to your amp. This is basically a portable piano, but it has a few sound profiles, like electric piano and church organ -- enough to keep the young pseudo-techies happy. The grand piano simulation is quite realistic and the weighted key action is amazing for something this inexpensive. Yup, Yamaha does it again. Highly recommended!

Comments about Yamaha NP11 61-Key Piaggero Digital Piano:

I bought this for my 11 year old stepdaughter, who has been learning to play the piano on and off for several years. I bought my wife an 88 key Williams a few years ago so that my wife could practice her piano lessons on it. Recently, I noticed my 11 year old playing Christmas Music on the Williams. Hoping to encourage her and wanting something portable that she can take to her friends's house or to her father's when she is with him on alternate weekends, I decided to get this. It's a minimal investment in a very decent little piano, perfect for practice and tutorials.
