OVERVIEW

A compact digital piano with a modern stylish design.

The Yamaha P-105 features an 88-note, Graded Hammer Standard weighted action keyboard to give you the same feel as an acoustic piano - heavier in the low end and lighter in the top. It has Yamaha's PureCF sound engine which accurately recreates the sound of their famous CFIIIS concert grand piano. Also new, the USB to Host port and line-level AUX outputs allow a variety of connectivity options with everything from an amplifier to an iPad. And 128-note polyphony ensures the suppression of dropped notes even with simultaneous Dual, Split, and drum pattern playing. In the EQ department, Intelligent Acoustic Control provides full, balanced sound that adapts to your volume setting for the best possible tone at any level.

PureCF-Sampled Piano
Sampled from Yamaha's own acclaimed CFIII concert grand, no digital piano in this price range delivers recordings from such a high-end instrument.

Pianist styles
This built-in duet partner plays along with you in one of ten different playing styles.

Built-in Drum Patterns
Basic drum patterns put the "fun" back into practicing and is a practical alternative to a metronome. Or turn your solo act into a two piece band where the dummer is always on time.

128-Note Polyphony
Even when using dual Voice and split mode with a drum pattern, 128-note polyphony ensures every note gets heard.

Intelligent Acoustic Control
Optimized for the built-in, 2-way, stereo speaker system, the P105 EQ automatically adjusts to your volume setting to ensure the absolute best tone at any playing level.

Assignable Split Voice
Choose two Voices and assign them to either the right or left hand. This is more musically versatile compared to a single, pre-assigned, left-hand bass Voice.

To qualify my opinion, I must state that I have been playing piano for most of my 50 + years. I grew up with a Steinway grand in my father's violin shop and have had a piano of some kind since becoming a studio musician in 1978.

With that said, I can wholeheartedly recommend this electric piano both for its natural feel, dynamic touch response and realistic tone.

The included speakers are fine for low volume solo-practicing at home. Even the bass notes are well defined and have some authority. To hear this concert grand through a great set of headphones makes it a pleasure to practice without disturbing the household.

Through an accurate set of studio monitors or flat-response speakers, this is as close to a real piano sound as I have ever heard.

I use the QSC ISIS I-82H along with a QSC amp and mackie mixer for rehearsals and Jazz gigs. For any louder material, I run the piano through two JBL eons speakers.

Of course the sound is slightly less realistic through the Eons at ROCK volumes, but still quite impressive.

The "extra" piano sounds are OK, but not stellar. There is no way (other than EQ) to tweak those sounds, so this is not for those looking to invent new sounds or emulate synthesizers.

This is a superb instrument at this price point for those who mainly want a good acoustic piano sound.

It is not an organ. It does have a single pipe organ sound, and that's OK. But it is stifling to anyone who has played real organs, whether pipe or digital.

Get it for the acoustic piano, the portability, the ease of use and the price. It has few bells-&-whistles... but that is an advantage for those of us who just want a piano.

I bought this keyboard last year and less than one year later, it is useless to me. When playing many keys at ones it starts to squeal. I contacted Musiciansfriend who sent me to Yamaha about my complaint. It has been several months later and I still have not been able to receive a reply from Yamaha. This is frustrating and terrible customer service.

I contacted the local dealer who told me that it must be the main board but it's practically impossible for me to order a main board from Yamaha. So I'm stuck with it just seating in my house.

Comments about Yamaha P-105 88-Key Digital Piano:

The piano sounds on this are great, the feel and action are great but a little on the light side compared to an acoustic piano. It has two headphone jacks in addition to line out, which is perfect for connection to a sound system. Very good construction yet light weight. My only complaint is that advanced menu options are very difficult to get to, requiring a combination of non-obvious button and key presses to change settings (such as transpose, key action etc). But for the price, you can't beat the sound and feel.

Comments about Yamaha P-105 88-Key Digital Piano:

I am a musician, but not a pianist. That said, I am very impressed with the feel and weight of the keyboard action (which is adjustable), and mostly impressed with the main piano sound. Its sonic shortcomings are rather minor, considering the price, and won't bother most people.

The extra voices (electric pianos, organs, etc.) are a nice bonus, and are fun to play with. I am especially impressed with the key-release sound of the harpsichord voice.

I bought this as a practice instrument for my daughter to take piano lessons, and it functions well in that role. (But I'm having fun fooling around with it too.)

This instrument seems to be the hands-down winner in this price range. Very impressive.

Bought the Yamaha P-105 as second piano for home use and performances away. The action, touch sensitivity, and sound are a good value.

Only drawback... I am not a fan of having most of the features tied to keys on the piano. Probably won't use many of the features in day-to-day practice but, when I do, many times I must look in the manual to find out which G# on the piano turns on the feature I want.

Comments about Yamaha P-105 88-Key Digital Piano:

The main reason I wanted to write this review was to say that if you are looking for a case, the Casio Privia Gig Bag works well for this. I had a Road Runner A RK5414 that I tried it with, and there were several inches of unwanted extra space in the case. I heard on a forum about how the Privia gig bag works with this keyboard, so I gave it a shot. Sure enough, it fits very snugly, although the Privia gig bag has a light to medium amount of padding for a gig bag.

The piano itself has a great sound. I got it to replace my Yamaha P60. It has several improvements over the P60:

                        * It has a aux out that can be used along with the internal speakers

                        * It has a transpose feature which can be activated through a key combination without actually sounding the keys (that was frustrating about the P60)

                        * It has a somewhat serviceable string bass sound, which you can split to the left hand while you do piano on the right. Sustain pedal does not sustain the bass but sustains the piano. Meaning I can have fun accompanying myself with bass as I play jazz piano in the right hand.

I liked the keyboard action in my P60 better--it had a heavier feel. But the P105 action is still good. Plus the keyboard is noticeably lighter.

the piano sound is very good and better with good head phones. I plugged in to a small JBL sound system and the sound was perfect. The touch is very close to a good grand piano but faster for jazz licks and back beat chord work, the Yamaha P105 does it right. It reminds me of an old lester and lester never was slow it grooved. best key feel and speed at this time.
