Ultra realistic piano sound and feel meets portability.

The Yamaha P-155 digital piano offers professional quality sound with Yamaha's legendary piano touch. Whether you're practicing at home or away, performing solo or in a band you'll have top-shelf Yamaha digital piano technologies at your fingertips. This Yamaha digital piano has advanced sampling functions and the ultra-expressive Graded Hammer (GH) keyboard. Now you don't have to choose between portability and piano quality. The P-155B version has a black finish and ebony top board

Hand-crafted Pianos, High-quality Voices
To ensure the finest grand piano sound for the P-155, Yamaha went straight to the source: Yamaha's finest 9-foot concert grand, a handpicked CFIIIS. Next, a master piano technician painstakingly tuned and regulated the CFIIIS to sonic perfection. Then Yamaha applied their Pure CF Sampling technology to accurately capture every aspect of the CFIIIS sound, keeping post-processing to an absolute minimum to maintain sonic integrity throughout. The result is a truly authentic grand piano sound with powerful, dynamic bass, warm mid-range, and crystal-clear highs.

Layer upon Layer
Yamaha's Dynamic Stereo Sampling (DSS) technology employs 4-level piano samples to enhance expression. Depending on how hard you strike a note, you will hear one of four piano recordings on each and every key for an unprecedented level of dynamic range and tonal expression. Playing softly doesn't simply lower the volume; it produces the quiet recordings of piano notes. And likewise, playing more forcefully triggers separate samples at different levels.

Ascension to Detail
If you close your eyes while playing a grand piano, you'll find its sound is a bit more complicated than note-on, note-off. Yamaha has gone to great lengths to capture these sonic artifacts in the P-155. Their meticulous efforts include recording a felt damper coming to rest on a vibrating string when a note is released (Key Off Samples), or reproducing the sound of the open strings that wash over your performance when using the damper pedal (Stereo Sustain Samples and Damper Resonance).

A Touch Above
When you look inside a grand piano you'll see different-sized strings, which require different-sized hammers with require different weights. The keyboard of the P-155 uses Yamaha's GH (Graded Hammer) technology to reproduce the true feel of a grand piano keyboard action, with heavier touch in the lower keys, lighter touch in the higher keys, and subtle gradations of weight and response throughout. Thanks to the input of concert-level, professional pianists during its development, the GH keyboard features superb balance and remarkable consistency. Performing or practicing on a GH keyboard properly develops and maintains an artist's technique for making the transition between P-155 and an acoustic grand.

Perfection Made Practical
As a full-featured digital piano, the P-155 gives you all you need for practice, playing, and performance. It has an internal high-power, two-channel (12W + 12W) amplifier with high-performance speakers built in. This lets you and your audience hear the authentic sounds in their full glory. Is your audience on another continent? Share your musical ideas and masterpieces easily with others by recording your performance to any attached USB storage device (not included). Songs are stored as Standard MIDI Files (SMF) and can be emailed to and played back on any Mac or PC.

Comments about Yamaha P-155B Contemporary Digital Piano:

I have been on a longtime quest to find a great sounding digital grand piano for decent price. Most manufacturers offer different versions of a grand piano sound that usually fall short of spectacular. After buying this keyboard, I sequestered myself in a room and played for so many days straight that I lost count. When I emerged, I went to a local music store and jammed on five different acoustic baby grand pianos. I was amazed that four of them didn?t sound as good as my new digital. The fifth one was better sounding, but cost almost $25,000. Don?t let my rating of 3.5 on features fool you. It is hard to give a perfect score for features when there really are not that many extras. Although there are only a few preprogrammed sounds, the grand piano is the only one that matters and it rocks. If you?re looking for anything else, buy a synthesizer.

Comments about Yamaha P-155B Contemporary Digital Piano:

I've owned the Yamaha P155 for over a year now and have learned its nuances. I recently ordered the FC3 pedal as an upgrade. This pedal is exactly what my digital grand piano needed to be perfect. The standard FC4 pedal worked, but it was like using a cordless drill without having variable speed. It's either full throttle or nothing. There is no in-between. The FC3 pedal is like a top of the line Dewalt versus the FC4, which could be compared to a decent Craftsman. This was [$] well spent. I can also still use the original FC4 to unleash other effects and features of my Yamaha P155.

Comments about Yamaha P-155B Contemporary Digital Piano:

Iam a professional working musician and currently own and have used the Yamaha P120 for the last 5 years. But when I purchased the P155 the sound quaility is definetely a step up. I still own the P120 which I'll retire for casuals gigs and practicing on. On the down side since I play left hand bass, I wish the keyboard had a seperate output for the split. For the money and soundyou can't beat this unit. It has no real whistles or bells, but it is a solid stage piano

Comments about Yamaha P-155B Contemporary Digital Piano:

I did a lot of research before purchaseing my first digital piano(2 months). I was looking at all pianos imagineable cheap and expensive. Had my eye on a Roland 700NX but it was way too pricey. I ultimately came to the Yamaha P155 every time. There are more things you can do with it than I thought. Many adjustments to depth of voices and twirks here and there. Sound is good, but the volume could be a little higher. Nothing really to get frustrated over since you can hook it up to an amp. The USB comes in really handy. I can download MIDI files online and play along with them on the Yamaha. I was a little worried when I was trying it out at the stores because the keys seemed stiff, but when I got mine delivered I started to play and the keys felt great. Very well built and a little on the heavy side. The piano sound is amazing and you can edit the decay, reverb, key off, etc. to make it sound like just the way you want. I am very happy with my purchase and also glad I got the ebony color, it looks sleek!

Comments about Yamaha P-155B Contemporary Digital Piano:

I upgraded from a Casio PX 200 to the Yamaha P-155B and it was the right move. To me, the action is perfect and the sound is excellent. Not a do all machine, just a really good piano with some basic extra sounds. I have several Yamaha instruments, so I expected first rate quality and they came through again. As always, the service from Musicians Friend was exactly as it should be. I am quite pleased.

Comments about Yamaha P-155B Contemporary Digital Piano:

I love this piano. The sound is fantastic and it feels like a real piano. The demos are a lot of fun and I haven't had the chance to try out all of the features, but I read about them in the manual and there is a lot more there than I expected. I researched a lot of pianos and I'm really glad I chose this one.
