Went from a standard piano to the PF-1000. I am a saxophone player. Enjoy creating music on the PF-1000. I have a home studio and the instrument fits in nicely!
The only problem I've had with this is that some of the keys were sticking - but I found out that certain Yamaha series have a design fault, which means the keys stick. Yamaha replaced it free of charge, so I couldn't really complain that much...Otherwise, I've had this for 3 odd years now and it's never let me down. The sounds on it are far better than any other keyboard I've heard, and that includes strings and brass sounds (usually terrible) and the piano sounds are excellent too.I've used the PF1000 for gigging, which isn't ideal given it's size and weight, but it's certainly not impossible to get around. The layout of the features definitely makes things simpler, and it's easy to switch between sounds because everything's laid out on the screen rather than having to find the sound you want in a list of numbers, like most keyboards. It is ridiculously 'over-featured' really, with a karaoke feature. But the other stuff is great, like the 16 track recorder, which isn't something you can use without reading the manual, (as with a few of the features) but things get easier! Overall, it's an excellent buy, and there are brand new keyboards coming out all the time which are nowhere near as good as this. I recommend strongly!
I dont care what anybody says , this is one of the best sounding pianos i've ever played in my life. I kid you not, although it is somewhat expensive, it is so capable! It has so many voices/effects and it feels like a real piano. No matter what sound you are trying to get, this piano will deliver. Play it to believe it.
Instrument purchased 11/03Quality: The stylish rich woodgrain furniture top panel blends with the lower black cabinet and rugged black steel stand, suitable for most home decors. The fit and finish is excellent and durable. The bench is moderately comfortable and durable. At 90 lbs. the unit stays put with vigorous playing. One of the pads on the pedal came unglued while used on wood floor. Shouldn't be an issue on carpet.Features: The best features are the infinite combinations of instruments, rhythms and accompaniments that provide an endlesschallenge to create music. The ability to 'split' the keyboard and change where the split occurs was a high priority since I play bass in many songs with my left hand. I can also 'chord' with my left which allows the'style' (pop & rock, pop ballads, sing & jazz, etc) to accompany the main instrument (choice of eight+) and the 'layer' instrument (choice of same eight+).The programmable 3-pedal controller allows to me stop/start the rhythm, end with a fade or being able to sequence through eight different instrument settings for one song.Saving the instrument setups in the registration memory makes it easy to go from song to song, eliminating tweaking between songs.Songs (MIDI data) can be saved in memory or diskette. The diskette saves MIDI data files only, not the actual sounds. The registrationsetups can also be stored on diskette. The diskette can be plugged into a 3 1/2" floppy drive on a computer and the sound card willproduce the sound from the MIDI 'instruction' data. The ability to use headphones is an added feature. Output jacks can be attached to a recording device to record the 'real' sounds.Ease of use: The learning curve for me was quite steep to get to the point I could enjoy many benefits of this keyboard. I play by ear and I knew what I wanted songs to sound like. I spent about 6 months really developing a comfortable skill level. The manual was very helpful but I had to learn by doing. Choosing the right 'style'for a song was a real challenge to emulate a familiar song. The weighted keys are marvelous! Unlike an organ which has no 'feel' other than 'off/on', the touch-sensitive keys allow the most delicate arpeggios to heavy rock & roll.Value: I was apprehensive about the price when I bought the unit. It's a durable and attractive instrument. Since I've learned how to play it, I really enjoy playing it! It's worth more than I paid. It turned out to be a perfect match for my music skill. Sound: The built-in speakers left me wanting for more bass. So I added a pair of studio speakers. What a great difference overall in fullness of sound. This is not a gig instrument though I've played the unit at a function of about 500 people and the sound level was fine for background music. It can be mic'd through a mixer/PA for more volume. The built-in drums can be cut off when playingwith a drummer.Overall: I am totally satisfied with this incredible piano-oriented high quality keyboard. It's mine for keeps. The most pleasure I get out of playing this instrument is experimenting with the infinite variety of instruments, rhythms and accompaniments to play songs the way I enjoy playing them.I wish I fully understood how to edit songs that I have saved. And I look forward to connecting the keyboard to a computer with music-editing software and burning CD's to share.
This keyboard is decent. It comes with many features and cool things to toy with, but if only the volume went higher. I've searched high and low, but can't turn it up. I expect something to crack my glass for this price, and I can barely hear it.
This piano is an excellent choice for anyone to use, this might be the paramount af all electric pianos.
A truly wonderful piano. Amazing features and although a little expensive, price compares favourably to other non-contemporary style digital pianos for the features like the CVP series or the high-end Rolands. Keyboard feels fantastic and beautifully made. If you can afford it, you won't ever sell it. Well done Yamaha (I was originally looking at Roland but stumbled across this one).
