I bought it as a second keyboard to compliment my Triton. The sounds are excellent - and the styles are much more useful than they used to be in the older models. Bye-bye, floppies. it takes smartmedia now - much better. It doesn't have as many features as the 3000, but for the price, it's very good.
I own the PSR3000 and now that I know better I should have got this instead. It's the same darn keyboard except for the microphone imput and 96 polyphony. There's no reason I can see to sing into a keyboard and you'd have to really overdo the arrangment big time to go over 96 polyphony. Other than that these are twins. The acoustic sounds are great. There's fine quality synth sounds as well but if you're looking for super synths go for something else. The special effect sounds are lackluster (laugh, scream, machine gun, helicopter...etc). Excellent drum machine system on this one.For good ol fashion orchestra, drums and organ sounds... superb. Very flexible machine.
A great user friendly keyboard/workstation. I play classical guitar so I wanted a tool that could aid in string, flute etc. arrangements to use for accompaniment. The psr1500 has exceeded all my expectations and the voice qualities are very realistic and not cheezy sounding. The psr3000 has more features but the psr1500 for less money is a better value for my needs.
I heard this board and was so surprised by the sound quality. It's shocking to think a portable keyboard would have more sound ROM than a professional workstation... but this baby beats a lot of them. The keys are still portable keys, but for what it does it's a great price.
I've played with Yamaha products for 15 years and the PSR 1500 has everything I need for my busy schedule. Sweet sounds, recording on the fly(for those inspirational times), use-ability that surpasses any other board I've used and this board is road tough!!
The Yamaha PSR 1500 reminds me a great deal of the PSR 2000 of witch I owned two. The 2000 was a great sounding flexible keyboard! BUT! if Yamaha is useing the same keyboard triggering technology on the 1500 and 3000, beware that both of my PSR 2000's failed in the keyboard section due to humidity in the areas I would perform. In other words, unless they have improved the keyboard electronics section itself, do not expect these keyboards to last more than 6 months if you are in a high humidity area. -TB
