Yamaha

A 61-key portable keyboard that's fun for both beginners and performers.

The Yamaha PSR-E423 portable keyboard offers several innovative features. This includes the basic features for learning to play, such as the Yamaha portable grand button (which instantly resets the keyboard to the finest onboard piano settings) and the Yamaha Education Suite buttons (which include built-in songs and 7 levels of lessons). In addition, the Yamaha PSR-E423 has features for when it's time to perform, such as synthesizer control knobs for realtime control of the filter, effects, sound envelope, and style tempo. The Yamaha keyboard's arpeggiator provides 150 different patterns and 40 arpeggio voices. Along with its black body, these easy-to-use, professional features set this 61-note keyboard apart from others in its class.

Control knobs, arpeggiator, and pitch bend:
Most of the features of the Yamaha PSR-E423 have been enhanced over its predecessor. 2 control knobs provide realtime control for filtering the main melody tone and changing the tempo of the arpeggio, just like an analog synthesizer. The Yamaha keyboard's pitch bend wheel brings voices like the sax and trumpet to life.

Improved arpeggio function:
Tap into instant inspiration with the arpeggio function, which has been improved for smoother playability. The Yamaha keyboard's hold mode and allocated key-range will free you up to play with both hands. It provides an expanded 150 patterns that automatically generate even more useful phrases that change depending on the notes and chords you play.

A variety of new dynamic voices:
Dynamic voices usually found on high-end workstations are now on the PSR-E423 61-note keyboard. There are 2 different waveforms that change depending on how hard you play the keyboard, allowing for more expression on voices, such as an overdriven or nylon guitar. High-quality voices, from acoustic instruments to electric sounds, have been expanded to 700 varieties. All of these voices sound even better through the bass-enhanced, 2-way speakers.

Wider world content and 174 varieties of styles with auto-backing mode:
Arabic, Indian, and Chinese content has been added to styles, rhythms, and voices. With these styles and voices, you'll sound like you've got a professional backing band behind you.

Extended flash memory and connectivity to PC with USB:
4 times more flash memory has been added to the Yamaha PSR-E423 keyboard so you can play along with your favorites transferred from a PC.

Pretty Good Lil' Keyboard

| Review By: SnowManSnow | 2 weeks, 2 days ago

Features:

To be honest, this keyboard is pretty darn good.  The voices are nice.  The keys aren't awefully flimsy, and the build quality is nice.

Quality:

Better build quality than I expected at this price range.

Value:

For this price you can't go wrong with this instrument.

Overall:

Overall this is a great little keyboard.  The sounds are good, the build quality is nice, and I think you'll like it There is a 1/4" out on the back, instead of the 1/8" associated with many keyboards in this price range (which is a +).  In summary, its a good buy.  It isn't ANYTHING like my Motif8, and I would generally say you get what you pay for... but in this case... you get a little more than you'd think.  If you need a light, well made instrument for risky venues that you don't wanna risk high end instruments.. this is your buy.

Features:

For the money, this keyboard is laden with features and extremely versatile.

Quality:

Keyboard action is solid - no toy keyboard.  Sound quality is very good.

Value:

Yamaha has put in so many features, and the keyboard is made so well, that I wouldn't think you could buy it for this low of a price.  I bought this for songwriting and possibly performances, and it will work well for everything I need it to do.

Overall:

Yamaha has delivered an excellent value in this keyboard.  It has so many voices, styles, etc., and it is so well made, that I honestly can't believe you can get it for such a reasonable price.  Highly recommended.

Well worth the money

Features:

The PSRE423 is versatile in that a number of voice combinations are available using the 'Dual' function. I already have two different settings stored in memory that I'll be using regularly. One is a piano and strings combination and the other is a sawtooth lead with strings in the background. Since I never use the highest notes but frequently hit a low bass note, I adjusted the pitch down one octave. That works perfectly. I haven't gotten serious with the arpeggiator function yet but it sounds like it has potential. We have a drummer, but if we have to do without one at some point, I can use the Style feature and program in a percussion setting.

Quality:

Puts out a nice sound and really sounds good coming through the church sound system. The sound quality is good enough that I could play along with the other instruments in the congregational music.

The casing is just as durable as a high end keyboard.

Value:

The PSRE423 sells for a low price, considered a beginner's keyboard, so you can't beat the price. It has much more potential than just a beginner's keyboard though. I've been playing keyboard for about ten years and find it more than adequate. Considering all the features it has, the value is fantastic.

Overall:

I purchased the PSRE423 on behalf of my church, to be used with a praise  band. It's replacing an older full-size Kurzwell keyboard. The goal was  to save space and get something much more lightweight since we have to  move all our instruments and musical equipment fairly regularly. We were  not disappointed.Going from playing a full size keyboard to playing a 61 key instrument  takes a little getting used to, but the pros definitely outweigh the  cons. This thing is so lightweight anybody can move it. We were really cramped for space and this smaller size keyboard gives us just the extra space we needed. Overall, with the good sound it puts out, the low low price, the ease of moving it, and extra space it allows, this keyboard was well worth the money.

For the price of the PSR-E423, it is an exceptional product.  I have found all the sound/music features to be stunningly accurate, without that electronic tone that other keyboards tend to deliver.  There is an ouptput, a 1/4" jack for headphones, an amp, or other device.  Included is an "Accessory CD-ROM" for Windows, only.  You need to buy the power adaptor seperately (PA-130), which is inexpensive.  As mentioned, there is a USB output as well, and a plug in for a sustain pedal.  This is all information I was looking for with researching this product, and I hope it helps you.  I am very happy with this keyboard, and excited with all it's possibilities.  (If you go to Yamaha's website, you can listen to some samples of it's sound.)

PSR-E423 Keyboard

Features:

Like some other reviewers I too was skeptical about this keyboard because of the price, but because I have a Yamaha P120 Keyboard that has given me many years of faithful service and other reviewers comments I decided to give it a try.    Yamaha just seems to have a knack for doing it right.    For a practice keyboard this is just what I needed.   I have no regrets.
