I'm just a beginner on keyboard, but this thing is great for the money.  I know it's not something that a professional would use, but come on folks!  If you are a beginner or just looking to expand your musical talents, you just can't beat this.  If you are an accomplished player then get one of the higher end models.  But this is loads of fun for the money.  It has many of the features of the high-end units and is a great introduction to the world of keyboard.  If you like it, you can go back and get a better machine when your skills develop beyond the beginner stage.  But you really wouldn't have to because this is a really nice unit.  Get one to start your kids interest in music.  Way better than a video game, and less money to boot.  I love it!

PSRE223 61KEY Portable Keyboard with Survival Kit

I bought this as a christmas gift for my daughter. I play guitar, but still I knew almost nothing about a keyboard.

I must have looked at a million of them for about 6 months leading up to Christmas. I can tell you without a doubt, this is the best bang for the buck. A couple of things I loved: it has a display that will show you how to make lots of chords. Surely it can't be all chords, but it does go into minors, 7ths, etc. More than my daughter will use for years. I also loved the pre-recorded tracks on it with a display showing the keys to play it. It moves a little fast to be a teaching tool, but it gives her an idea of where she's headed.

Obviously I didn't give it a perfect score. The pitch seemed a little off to me on the higer keys. Maybe that's just my ear, but my tuner agreed with me. It was not overly noticable or unusable. A trained ear will notice, but nothing more than notice. It's not bad at all. Also, I was a little disappointed in the teaching DVD's. They really don't give much instruction on how to play, so we are googling for lesson plans. I don't see this as a great disadvantage since there is so much on-line to help. If you don't have a connection, though, you may need to consider purchasing additional teaching aides.

As far as beginner model goes, you really can't do any better. I'm very proud of this purchase, and so is my daughter (15y.o.). Now we will see if it stands up to the constant abuse we plan to give it. Honestly, if she gives it up, I'll be taking it over. If she does not, I am likely to by myself the exact same model.

I purchased the PSRE223 62 Key portable Keyboard w. Kit for our 12 year old grandson for Christmas.  I have played piano all my life, so naturally, I 'played' with this keyboard before wrapping it,and loved it!   It has a good sound and many great fun features!   He plays violin in school, so he can read music.  I'm hoping that being able to actually 'see' the keyboard, that he will broaden what he has already learned by playing a stringed instrument.  I had fun with this--I'm thinking of buying one for myself, even though I have a piano!  I recommend it to beginners and players of other instruments who want to get a feel for the piano keyboard.  Thumbs up!!  JS

We were floored by this keyboard.  We ordered it with the survival kit as yeah you need a power supply, and my wife insisted on a sustain pedal.  Also comes with headphones for practice.  Overall sound is nice.  It will do way more than we will ever learn, but since it is for the granddaughter, it will give her and dad some great times together playing and that's the point.  It is more than a toy, it's a musical instrument.  Even has polyphonic keys too but I forgot to try that out, before boxing it back up for Christmas.  Anyone would enjoy this keyboard.  We slapped six Procell Duracell AA batteries in it, and i bet they'll last a good amount of time.  Has a great sound, lots of fun sounds too, way to many to remember.  I give this ten's all around but if I could give it twelves, well, you get the point.  You might look into the accessory stand from Yamaha, we went with the dual folding Casio but see that the Yamaha stand attaches with thumb screws right to the keyboard, that might be quite stable and nifty.  We just had a double for another keyboard and know how sturdy they are so we went that way, but do investigate Yamaha stand because it looks like it might be good for kids especially to have it attached.  Cheers.  bd

While this keyboard package is an exceptional deal, $110 for the keyboard and a survival kit, it's actual quality though is a bit poor.  It does come with a fair amoung of features, several installed beats, rhythms, and voices, but the overall sound quality is not that great.  The high side of the keyboard is not too bad, but once you start going on the bass side, they sound distorted.  I had this keyboard for about a month and I tried to tolerate it, but finally just exchanged it for a higher level yamaha keyboard hope that one goes better.
