OVERVIEW

76-note workstation with over 300 unique voices.

Yamaha has created their ultimate performance keyboard, the Tyros5. With outstanding sounds, enhanced DSP effects, and accompaniment Styles so real it's like being backed by the world's finest musicians, the Tyros5 brings a high level of authenticity. Whether sketching composition ideas, carefully crafting the perfect arrangement or delivering a memorable performance, the Tyros5 is your perfect companion. More than 300 new Voices have been added to the Tyros5, including new brass, guitars, synth, electric pianos, and upright pianos. S.Art2 Voices are high-quality sounds that re-create the feeling of an actual instrument when performing.

Welcome to Organ World
The Tyros5 features Vintage, Home, Euro, Concert, and Theatre organ Voices, all superbly reproduced with stunning samples that allow the Tyros5 to shine in any situation that an organist might encounter. With features such as a comprehensive set of realistic organ-style controls, adjustable effects, and intuitive operation that allows you to alter the sound in real time while you play, Organ World is sure to meet the demands of the most demanding performer.

Add Rhythm to your performances with Audio Styles
Adding forty new percussion-based Styles to the Tyros5's impressive backing and accompaniment capabilities, Audio Styles add natural feel, ambience, and warmth to drum and percussion parts, offering greater expressive potential. Audio Styles also benefit from Yamaha's Time Stretch Technology, which allows the audio to follow your tempo changes without changing pitch, so everything stays in perfect sync.

Real Reverb
Real Reverb is an improved version of the Reverb technology found in previous versions of the Tyros. New algorithms take a greater number of factors into account, producing smoother, more natural reverbs.

A versatile high performance audio engine that gives you total control over your sound
The Tyros5 is capable of playing back and recording audio files (including performances using Audio Styles), and also possesses a range of audio manipulation features you can use to create "karaoke" style "minus one" tracks in the key and tempo of your choice.

Vocal cancel
A powerful Vocal Cancel function effectively cancels or suppresses signals like vocals and solos that play a central role in an audio file, allowing you to make your own "minus one" track and sing "karaoke" style with just instrumental backing.

New Design
The Tyros5 features a metallic silver body (titanium finish) that looks as if it were chiseled out of metal, giving it an exclusive, high-tech feel. We've also given attention to the button operations and knob positions, so that people who are already familiar with Tyros can operate the new model freely and without worries.

Note: Your Yamaha keyboard ships with everything you need to enjoy phenomenal sound and broad functionality, but Yamaha additionally offers a Survival Kit specially designed for their top-quality keyboards. The SK-AW Survival Kit includes a 1-year extended warranty, a Yamaha FC5 foot switch/pedal, stereo headphones, a 2GB USB flash drive, Cubase AI software, $25 worth of content from yamahamusicsoft.com and hundreds of dollars of rebates for related Yamaha accessories. #H99484

Comments about Yamaha Tyros5 76-Key Arranger Workstation:

Sound can be very objective and there are lots of manufacturers claiming to have the 'ultimate ' keyboard. I have been fortunate enough to play a lot of different keyboards and in fairness most of the respected companies make great boards. I enjoy my Kurzweils and Korg's but if I were to keep only one instrument it's the Yamaha Tyros 5-76. It does most things spot on and even it's weaker points are still rather acceptable.
First off, unless you plan on using massive Virtual sound libraries there is nothing that matches the Yamaha for acoustic emulations that are truly playable. And for a lot of people, playing is what an instrument is all about. If you take the time to explore and discover the nuances of the various acoustic voices, listeners will be hard pressed to realize its from a keyboard.
This is not to say the Yamaha is weak in the ' Synth' sounds. It certainly holds its own, although working with the synth voices is not as intuitive as some others. It has great pads and presets that can be tweaked to your hearts content.
The styles are plentiful, well thought out and make great use of the mega voices. Whether for live playing or helping create a groove for songwriting they can certainly provide inspiration, ideas and downright fun to musicians of all calibers.
At this price there's a lot of great instruments out there. But you'll be hard pressed to find a better sounding more versatile one than this.
Give it a try!

Comments about Yamaha Tyros5 76-Key Arranger Workstation:

Don't get me wrong, you will never regret having bought Tyros 5, and you will enjoy every time you get to play on it. Very punchy sound, modern and classic styles and sounds that will cover 99% of everyone's needs on stage or in studio. Awesome inspirational tool for your musical ideas. Rugged build. Big screen (not touch sensitive unfortunately).

I'm writing this review after living and working with it for more than 2 years now, and I can say that for me personally, the biggest update of them all was the 76 key version, and never owned any of the previous Tyros versions just because of that same reason. I've been working with my old and trusty 9000 Pro since it's initial release until 2012, which I still keep it, and I also owned the Tyros 5's equivalent arranger from other 4 letter brand that starts with K.

Stepping back to Yamaha from K, was an instant eye opener, and got me back in my waters where everything had sense, and I had the ease-of-use back. Although the K had it's Pros in certain areas where Yamaha is weak, the difference between those two arrangers in my opinion is rather great, and Tyros 5 has quite some legs over the competition in general.

After the initial thrill of getting the latest and greatest from Yamaha in my hands, as I was getting accustomed to the instrument, was and still is a bit of a roller coaster of feelings. I was finding too much similarities as I wished to find with my 20 year old 9000 Pro, which is part a good thing, but at the same time it wasn't good at all.
The sequencer and the style editor where still untouched, no progress has been made in this direction through all these years of development, which is very pity. The sound editor was gone, and now I need a computer in order to do those same changes that I was able to do on my 9000 Pro. And I know PLG boards are dead now, but having separate polyphony on those plug-in sounds was a really convenient thing.
There are other areas where I'm not so impressed with Tyros 5.

Great for Middle Eastern & World Music!

By D.J.

from Atlanta, GA

Pros

  • Better Than Psr-a2000
  • Expandability
  • Quality Expansion Packs
  • Realistic Acoustic Sounds
  • Realistic Instruments

Cons

  • Cheesy Choir Sounds
  • Incompatible Arabic Kit
  • Mediocre Grand Piano
  • No Indian Drum Kit
  • No Indian Expansion Pack

Best Uses

  • Arabic Music
  • Balkan Music
  • Celtic music
  • Expansion Packs
  • Greek Music
  • Middle Eastern Music
  • Turkishbalkangreek Musi
  • Turkish Music
  • World Music

Comments about Yamaha Tyros5 76-Key Arranger Workstation:

I bought this keyboard to replace my Yamaha PSR-A2000 oriental keyboard. The Middle Eastern and Turkish/Balkan expansion packs for Tyros 5 are higher quality and far more realistic than the expansion packs for the PSR-A2000. It was worth the extra thousands of dollars. The keybed quality is more responsive too.

It's too bad there is no Indian expansion pack for this keyboard though. So many of the low end PSR series have Indian styles, rhythms, and sounds. Why not Tyros?

The choir voices are really cheesy with over a dozen "doo-bee-doo" sounds I cringe at. The grand piano is also disappointing - nowhere near as good as a Motif XF. Also, the Arabic drum kit is not compatible with the Arabic kit from the PSR-A2000 - you can not expect your imported PSR styles to work without having to revoice everything.

Overall, I'm happy with the keyboard and hope that Yamaha will make more world music expansion packs including an Indian one. It'd also be nice to have a dedicated Greek expansion pack.
