In all fairness, I should say that I actually own a Yamaha YPG225, and I did not purchase it at Musician's Friend, I bought it at Strait Music in Austin Texas. I'm a bass player by specialty, but always wanted to expand my horizons to keyboards, and I'm SO glad I chose this one! I tried several models at the store and this one was not only a great value, but had all the features I wanted and then some. In addition to grand piano, this keyboard has close to 400 other instruments on it and I'd say that 85% of them sound totally lifelike. Some of the flute settings for example actually have breath sounds and even sputter if you hit the keys too hard (good for doing Jethro Tull numbers)! I especially like the capability of "splitting" the keyboard into two distinct instruments, for example, when playing "Color My World" by Chicago, I can play the piano and flute parts simultaneously (really blows the audience's mind!). Only bummer is that your sustain pedal doesn't work when your keyboard is on split mode. I know that I haven't even begun to fully explore this keyboard's capabilites and don't know if I ever will - frankly, I'm enjoying the heck out of what I've been able to discover on my own. That's another great feature to this machine, it's very user friendly, plus I like having the headphone jack so that I can practice without bugging my neighbors. I sometimes wish it had 88 keys like a real piano, but hey, that's a "piddly" sacrifice. I've gotten so much out of this keyboard and if it ever goes to "gadget heaven," I would upgrade to another Yamaha model in a heartbeat.

Okay, so the "Graded Soft Touch" detail was rather ambiguous, to me anyway, so I had to check it out at my local music store.
THIS IS NOT A WEIGHTED KEYBOARD, which was what I was looking for (I ended up going with the Casio CDP-100...a little pricey and lacking a huge bank of sounds, but weighted action.) The GST means that you push faster, the sound is louder.
And it claims to have the best "grand piano" sound in the industry, but I wasn't really impressed.
So yeah, if you're looking for a SYNTHESIZER with a lot of great sounds and the over-hyped velocity sensitive keys, this is for you. But if you're looking for an entry-level digital piano with weighted action, I suggest not getting this.

This keyboard offers so much for the price!! The sound is unbelieveable! I have recommended it to several who could easily use this in the church setting or a band.

Comments about Yamaha YPG-235 76-Key Portable Grand Piano Keyboard:
I use this and a another polyphonic keyboard in tandem. It allows me to have a second sound at the ready. My most often used sounds on this keyboard are grand piano, electric piano, organ, flute and strings. Setup for different sounds is as easy as keying in a number and pressing enter.

Comments about Yamaha YPG-235 76-Key Portable Grand Piano Keyboard:
Many keyboards are very similar. Here are a few things I could not find information on when I was looking to purchase a keyboard. Be careful to watch for these things because they vary from keyboard to keyboard and make a big difference.
-Very impressive soundy quality on "Piano" setting
-Full 3-page music stand attached (some have poor music stands made of a couple wires)
-Compatible with (not included) pedal
-How hard you hit the keys determines how loud the note plays (some keyboards it is the same volume no matter how hard/soft you press, this is terrible if you actually plan to use your keyboard for practice)
-Plenty of polyphony
-The piano has a solid feel to it, it is constructed from quality materials while some others may feel like a "toy" or like you are going to break them.
-What it is not: A full-feature mixing board. It has good extra features and sounds (some quite impressive, such as assisted performance and recording up to 5 tracks of your playing) but this instrument is intended for someone who primarily plans to use it as a piano, and the extra features are just for added fun.
-Only con (not reflective of the actual product)was that the power adapter (sold separately but I ordered them in the same purchase both from Musician's Friend, and paid 2-day shipping for both of them) arrived 7 days after the keyboard, so if you are looking to get it as a gift for someone else be sure to order in advance! My power adapter arrived a week after Christmas.

Excellent product for the low price tag. Wish it comes with AC adapter. At least, the adapter arrived before the keyboard on separate orders. This keyboard arrived very fast. Very pleased.

Comments about Yamaha YPG-235 76-Key Portable Grand Piano Keyboard:
This was our first digital piano. We both had taken lessons as children. We got it primarily to help my wife learn choir music, but we also wanted an instrument that she could learn on and I could brush up on. This Yamaha fits the bill in spades.
We love it!
