With a full oval tip for perfect balance‚ control and high pitch definition.

Drummers from the pipe band genre are a special breed who require sticks that are perfectly suited to their unique technical requirements. Their activity involves playing on extremely high tensioned drums, and a very specialized stick is necessary to produce the right sound and feel.

Designed for the most discriminating player, the Highlander Pipe Band Snare sticks are made in select rock maple for a light, fast-playing stick with great flex and rebound. With a full oval tip, these sticks provide perfect balance and create the high pitch definition that pipe band players desire.

As with all Vic Firth sticks, the Highlander Snare sticks are produced with uncompromising quality control standards, highlighted by a proprietary tone pairing and weight sorting system.

Comments about Vic Firth Highlander Pipe Band Snare Drum Sticks:

Great sticks for the money. On par with the best of pipe band snare drumming sticks, such as KP2's.
Our whole pipe band snare section uses these.

      Decent, good value

Comments about Vic Firth Highlander Pipe Band Snare Drum Sticks:

This will be slightly longer than I'd like because after reading the previous review, I want to dispel confusion any others might have.First, the obvious should be stressed: these are Pipe Band sticks (thus "Highlander"). If you get these for corps style marching, do NOT rim shot with them (they aren't made for it! That has NOTHING to do with their quality) or even play the rims, they will dent and break fairly easily. Pipe drums have standard (typically 24 strand) wire snare under the batter head, in addition to a smaller common bottom wire snare (as opposed to gut) on the resonator head. One doesn't need a beefy telephone pole to get a pop out of them out of these very high tension drums (they were the first, before marching snares).Pipe Band drumming is a different animal. The sticks are lighter and designed for the bounce and quicker syncopated buzz-tap-open flam style of Scottish/Irish side drumming. Thus, if you are getting these for a normal corps marching snare drum, knock yourself out and experiment. You'd have a hard time getting the volume expected from march style, so you could pull them out for a quiet section, I imagine. I'd be interested in hearing how they work on an auxiliary snare on some of the high end marching drums. But do not be confused by what these are made for. They're designed specifically for pipe snares. My normal pipe sticks are Vic Firth Jim Kilpatrick KP2 and KP3s. I decided to get Highlanders because they were very cheap and I was curious how they would handle. These will be a good backup pair for me to loan out with new drummers (replacing their corps sticks) when needed or if I drop a stick. Compared to Kilpatricks the balance could be better--KPs practically bounce on their own. As to weight, they are medium-heavy weight (as far as pipe band sticks go).Bottom line: a very good value if you want to experiment, or dabble into Scottish drumming for the first time. They are average and get the job done. If you are already a pipe drummer, I'd still recommend the more standard sticks found on piping supplier sites and at Celtic stores such as the various Andantes, Camerons, Dutharts, Kilpatricks, etc.I would also recommend Musician's Friend to tap into this small but dedicated market with more typical options such as listed above. Availability is slim as is. If you could offer the known signature sticks common to our genre at less than $20 I'd venture that you would get business among the Scottish side drumming community.I love Musician's Friend for everything else, how great it would be if they had a full Pipe Drumming section!

      Very Light

      By Billy-h3QgH

Comments about Vic Firth Highlander Pipe Band Snare Drum Sticks:

These are very light and do dent easy, therefore I gave it a 3.5 on quality and they are pricy, but for the most part, they are small decent light sticks that have a unusual shape and very nice bouce. They still project loud.
