I'm a professional musician with 40+ years experience. I suppose I've tried most every stick and size on the market but, I've always come home to Vic Firth. I still have my first pair of Bolero #2s from the early 1970s which had his name wood burned on the butt end, before his sticks were mass produced.

I play very loud music on a very large 80s vintage kit, with oversized, very deep drums (12x12, 13x13, 14x14, 15x15, 16x16, 18x16 and a mounted 28" gong bass). No stick draws the sound from my cannons like the Ralph Hardimon's and the MS1s. They project the sound without my having to flail at the drums and the Hardimon nylon tips provide ultimate cymbal response. They come in tone matched and weight matched pairs and are remarkably consistent.

They are certainly not for every kit drummer. At 7/10's of an inch diameter and 17" long they are heavy baseball bats, but with practice they offer superb control and dexterity.

As others have stated, the quality of these sticks has fallen significantly. After a few performances, the Nylon tip came off. The sticks also chip and dent very easily compared to the Promark's Marching Percussion line. The Vic Firth logo and markings come off with a couple hours of use - though that doesn't affect play-ability, it just looks bad. Also, these sticks are extremely "fat" - or have a large diameter barrel - which tends to be very uncomfortable and leads to blisters along the base of the index finger. If you have an average to small hand, these sticks will feel like clubs. Seriously consider Regal Tip or Promark before buying a pair of these.

Comments about Vic Firth Corpsmaster Ralph Hardimon Drumsticks:

I'm a HUGE fan of these Ralph Hardimon Corpsmaster snare sticks, and the price from this site just COULD NOT BE BEAT!!! I bought the nylon beads, but the wood beads are also a high quality marching stick and are the same price from here. Shipping was free and fast-- they arrived at my house three days after I ordered (and one of those days was a Sunday, so...)! Great sticks, great price, great service, fast delivery! You'll NOT be disappointed!!!

This stick is one of the best I've used. The downside is that it's to thick. It's also hard on rim shots.

This was the fourth set of these sticks I've ordered for my son who is a sophomore in high school. He plays snare in marching band and loves these sticks. They take a beating with rim shots, but overall have held up really well. It's halfway through the season and he's still on his first pair. He has one set he practices with, one set he marches games with, one pair he saves for competitions, and now, one backup pair. I'd order them again in a heartbeat. Musician's Friend were out of stock on them when I first ordered them. I'm glad they have them now as they have the best price and fast delivery.

Comments about Vic Firth Corpsmaster Ralph Hardimon Drumsticks:

The quality of this stick seems to be dropping at an alarming rate. Last year the sticks we purchased seemed to begin to crack very early. This year we had two of 6 sticks crack on their very first use, which was a 7 minute field show! This results in an uneven sound and basically forces the user to begin taping the stick immediately.

I can no longer recommend this stick and will be looking for a different brand for my snare drummers next year.

These sticks are great for marching snares and, wait for it, DRUM SETS! I use these sticks for Heavy Metal Drumming, and they allow me to get a loud and powerful stroke without working as hard as I would with a 7A or 5A stick (my favorite sizes). Once you get used to the weight of these sticks, they are even easier to use then when you first get them! They have a great feel and they last FOREVER! Buy some, you wont regret it!
