Martin

Superior Martin craftsmanship, and Fishman technology, all at a steal of a price.

Martin guitars from the X Series feature patented high pressure laminate (HPL) back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top, patented mortise and tenon neck construction, and professionally installed Fishman electronics. The result: great-sounding, great-playing guitars, that are environmentally friendly, and priced to fly out the door. This is one of Martin's best values ever. The 000X1AE guitar affirms Martin's commitment to providing an affordable and competitive option to players dedicated to live performance.

The 6-string X Series 000X1AE acoustic-electric guitar features the 000 platform, a smaller body design than the traditional dreadnought, producing full, robust sound. Pairing the Sitka spruce top with the HPL back and sides, the 000X1AE belts out rich clarity and plenty of projection. The Mortise& Tennon neck joint ensures optimal tone resonating from the instrument, while eliminating drop-off in the finer dynamics.

The Martin guitar's stratabond neck is a multilayered wood creation, bonding layers of wood under extremely high pressure. The material is then carved and finished in a conventional manner. The end result is a very strong neck that provides definition and articulate sustain from note to note.

The modified low oval neck shape, 25.4" scale, 1-11/16" nut width, and 16" radius provide comfort and dexterity when performing intricate movements and progressions along the black Richlite fretboard.

The Martin 000X1AE guitar features proven Sonicore pick-up technology with the Fishman Sonitone system featuring "easy access" volume and tone controls conveniently and strategically located just inside the sound hole.

Dressed in a satin finish and featuring chrome tuners, chrome hardware, this guitar has the look and sound of a highly collectible Martin, but goes for a price that anyone can afford. Embrace the dream of owning your very own Martin guitar, at a price that is too good to pass up.

All X series guitars arrive stage ready—just plug them in and play. Martin X Series guitars also include a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Martin has always made prudent use of natural resources, especially rare or endangered tonewoods in making their guitars. At the same time, Martin is committed to building guitars of superior tone and playability that are affordable to every guitarist. This 000X1AE acoustic-electric guitar from the X Series more than meets both of these criteria.

This guitar has the same great sound you would expect from any Martin. The neck is equally good for chording and lead play.

Comments about Martin X Series 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I had a Mexican plus top Strat that I had purchased that I was just not satisfied with the sound so I took it back and traded it for this Martin 000X1AE. I was totally blown away by the Martin. I had a Martin D-16GT a couple of years ago and got rid of it and always regretted doing so. Well, not now. In my opinion this baby blows the D-16GT out of the water. This has a solid Sitka top and HPL laminate back and sides. Do not be concerned about HPL. The construction on this is great and high quality. The neck is stratobond and is rock solid. I cannot tell the difference between the Richlite fretboard and the rosewood and ebony fretboards of my other guitars. The guitar comes with Martin SP MSP7100 light strings on it. I was not getting the bass response I liked so I put a set of D'Addario EJ-19 bluegrass strings on it and this baby now rocks. Normally I use a .73 medium pick. It sounds great on this Martin but a .88 sounds even better. The Fishman Sonitone pickup is not the most fantastic pickup in the world but through my little Ibanez Troubadour acoustic amp it does the job nicely. I keep the tone turned down low simply because I do not like a lot of the brightness when the tone is up high. I prefer a more mellow sound through the amp. The 000 body style is very comfortable to play and the guitar is very light. Makes extended playing a joy. I am 60 years old and have some issues with my back and some arthritis in my hands. So weight of the guitar is sometimes an issue for me after a couple of hours of playing. I could play this guitar all day. After I wear these strings out I will try either some John Pearse bronze or Martin bronze strings on it. If you want a Martin but cannot afford the higher priced ones, this is the guitar to get. There are no fancy appointments on it. The top is a matte finish but the guitar is just nice to look at. The neck is really comfortable to play. I am not a fan of gloss necks anyway. The setup was just fine out of the box. Just out of personal preference I did sand down the bridge just a hair when I changed the strings. I promise you will not be disappointed if you get this. I could not find one flaw in the workmanship of this guitar.

Comments about Martin X Series 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I am reviewing the GC "X Series" which according to Martin is identical in material and build to the 000X1AE. For the money, once set up properly, this is likely the best low end acoustic guitar value (or near the very top). Taylors in this price range sound quite strident, especially played with a pick. The GAD Guilds are built nicely and have much more real wood and the most even necks for a Chinese guitar, but just don't sound good. All the BlueRidge & FlintHill guitars sound good, and you may prefer those, but good luck finding one with a neck that is even and not warped.

The X seroes 000 has a mid-bassy tone, I think the tone not as balanced as more expensive Martins, but still an excellent value. Once you get past the "artificial" materials and just play the guitar and listen to it, you just might find it a good value.

Comments about Martin X Series 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I think it is pretty cool what Martin did here. They took kitchen counter tops material for the back and sides, skateboard park material for the fretboard, and a microlam neck which is what you use to span large open areas when building houses. Yet, it is a sweet guitar with a warm tone, the intonation and playability are prefect.

I wanted a travel guitar that I could leave in a hotel and not worry about. I have a hd-28 and an 000-15m which are just to expensive to leave unattened or bring anywhere near a campfire. I almost got a taylor gs-mini but I wanted the bass that you get from this guitar. I got a professiona set up and it helped a lot. I also had to sand the side of the fretboard, because it was almost sharp and botherd my hand. I play about an hour every day, so my hands were not the issue. I have played it for about 2 months and it is already breaking in and sounds much better.

Compared to my hd-28 or 000-15m, I do not think it is in the same class. However, the prices are not even close for the HD and the 15 is about double the price. If you can swing it, I would hold out for the 000-15m it is a much better guitar. That said, compared the the guitars in its price range, this thing rocks. After the minor sanding and the set up, this guitar plays as good as either of my other accoustics.

I wish I would have had this back in the day instead of my washburn or my seagull s6. The seagull was a pretty good guitar, but the Martin playability blows that guitar away.

So all in all, a great guitar with sustainable materials. Its perfect for what I wanted and its a keeper.

This is a great guitar. Beats any guitar within its price range by far. Sounds awesome, plays easy, and not to mention the 000 body style is pretty rad as well. All the ladies dig it. Did not require any additional setup when purchased. Action was at a very comfortable level/no fret issues. Laminate on back/neck is surprisingly really nice and looks like wood.

Comments about Martin X Series 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have this guitar and gigged out with it the last two years. Sound great acoustic or plugged in, better than some of the more expensive guitars. The only problem I had (that someone else mentioned) was the end pin came loose, but was an easy fix. Still would recommend this guitar. Best in it's price range.

Comments about Martin X Series 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own 6 guitars, 3 of those are Martins. This is my cheapest guitar, and also my favorite. (I have the straight 000X1, no electronics) I bought it as an "expendable" camping/travel guitar, but it is the one I play the most. It just feels sooooo good, plays so smooth. And it's sound will match or surpass guitars that cost 10x as much. I bought it because I sat down to play one in a store, and the tone punched me right in the ... um .... lap. It has great tone. And fresh out of the box, the scent of this guitar is pure heaven. That alone is worth the price.

You'll see some reviews that say this and the cutaway 000XCAE are sensitive to temperature and humidity. That might be somewhat true. The :Stratabond" neck is more sensitive than pure mahogany. I live in the desert southwest, so maybe the problem is less for me. I tweak the truss rod twice a year, and that keeps this thing at a purrrrfect playing action. I've paid people lots of money to try to get my D-28 action to feel as good as this Made-In-Mexico knockoff. They can't.

I own a Martin D-28, plus I'm one of the 4 people who bought the Alternative II Resonator (also a great Martin). I have a Guild 12-string, a Cordoba classical, and the sweetest American-made standard Telecaster. But the 000X1 is the one I grab when I want to sit down and feel everything click into place, when I want sweet tones, bendable notes, and an intimate guitar. Get this guitar.

Comments about Martin X Series 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I feel blessed to be in a time period where Martin guitars have become affordable and special. Martin & Co. has successfully cut corners on minimal areas and moved production of the X series to Mexico to provide affordable guitars to consumers.

There are plenty of affordable guitars in this price range that offer both quality and tone - however, not many offer quite the bang in the tone department that these Martins do. There are always corners cut in this price range. Most manufacturers will choose to cut corners on their bracing or their materials, sacrificing the tone and saving it for their higher end models - thus keeping the attractive finishes and preamp systems. This is fine and dandy, as I have a Yamaha FGX720SCA and I love it to pieces. However - when compared tonally to the Martin, it lacks the depth, bass response, and character the Martin has.

Martin has sacrificed the luster gloss finish for a satin natural finish, which in its own right is very beautiful. The X-series like many guitars in its price range offers a solid sitka spruce top and laminated back and sides. The difference is, the laminate is a wood-patterned fake wood, rather than laminated pieces of real wood. Each back and side looks the same, as if stamped. However - the tone that spills out of the guitar is beyond amazing, and I can only say that it's because Martin braces their guitars a certain way. So I guess you could say that it's more amazing that they could make a guitar from this material sound so great.

The preamp is very basic, although does not cut into the side of the guitar. The preamp is located underneath the soundhole, with two cog-wheel style knobs that control the brightness and the volume. I find this is more than enough to achieve a great sound through a decent PA system. The preamp itself is not as versatile as my Yamaha's 55T preamp, but then again, the preamp isn't the guitar's strongest selling point, either.

The guitar is tonally rich, deep, and bright. My friend who owns several guitars (many vintage Gibsons) came over to try my new guitar. He couldn't believe what I paid for it and thought some dummy sold it to me way cheaper than it was worth. I told him I got it brand new and he said it was pure Martin all the way. So there you go.

If you have any doubts, go play one - you will fall in love!

Comments about Martin X Series 000X1AE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

first of all the tone is amazing, the fact that it doesn't have a cut-away in the body means everything. Sure the cut-away makes some playing more easy in the high notes, but don't be lazy compromising sound when you can learn how to play up there anyway with a rich sound. The built is great, it's light for gigs and to carry around. It has the full box sound of martin without costing thousands of dollars. I had some trouble with the output jack, the screw fell loose but it was solved easily just had to screw it back in again.
