This steel is lighter and fits my female hand much better than my orignial steel. I'm a very beginner in playing the resonator and my first steel, the Lap Dawg, was heavy and cumbersome. Though I didn't see any reviews intitally that specifically indicated the Shubb GS1 would be suitable for a female hand, I'm very glad I purchased it anyway! I have much better control with this steel. Though other reviews that said it may be too light, I haven't experienced that issue. I love this steel. It's my new best friend!

I own five different slides. This is the best slide I have ever used. It is easy to hold on to. Not to heavy to where it slips out of my hand. I did make one improvement to the bar. The edge on the bar is to sharp or square. I put a small bevel on one side of the bar and polished it. Now it glides across the strings and not get caught when moving from one string to another. I rated it a 9. With the added bevel, mine is now a 10.

Comfortable to the touch and very well designed. The wooden grip makes control and slants easier. I use mine on a lap steel.

Injuries made me switch from Doghouse to lap style, 4 years ago. I got one of these and have used it ever since but have tried 4 other bars. Like others have said comfort, grip, and feel (wood vs Steel) are great. Don't get the idea of extra weight of others bars, but I'm not a pro, don't play loud or amped, and to each their own. The ergonomic contour makes me wonder why have it any other way? Minor complaint is sides are so slick and angeled it's hard to slant, a couple of pieces of sticky sided velcro fixed that. Gonna have to get another as a spare.

This is a well made slide with grips in the right places. It is well balanced and will stand upright by itself on the strings. Although pricy for a slide you have to consider the craftsmanship.

I'm a gal and the other slides seem to heavy for me to use. I'm playing a 3 string cigar box guitar which is set up as a slide guitar. I like the wood feeling in my hand, warmer to the touch. A nice change from an all metal slide.

I'd been using a Stevens bar on my Wessenbourn and this was the perfect upgrade. I found the lighter weight improved my agility and vibrato. Much more comfortable grip than the Stevens bar too. A+!

Comments about Shubb GS-1 Resophonic Steel Bar Slide:

This is an awesome bar. It is ergonomic, and follows the natural curve of my index finger quite nicely. I also have a Lap Dawg, and a regular Stevens bar. The Stevens I don't really like. The Lap Dawg is an awesome bar and I really like it, but the GS-1 is far more comfortable so I stick to that. Also the GS-1 is lighter, and the tone is not as "crisp" as with an all metal bar. I play electric lap steel with bare fingers (no metal or plastic pick of any kind), so in the beginning I thought that the tone was not what I was after, but after a while and with a few amp setting changes I've really come to love this bar. It's more money than most bars, but it is also more comfortable, and I can really maneuver it quickly over the strings. I think it's worth the extra money. There is one complaint, though. After about eight months of regular use the bar came apart, with the wooden part coming off quite easily. I noticed there were only a few dots of glue keeping it together. I used SciGrip Weld-On #16 epoxy glue to put it back together and it is now indestructible. Great tone bar. Get one.
