If you're like most musicians, you probably can't imagine taking your instruments very far without protecting them in sturdy cases or gig bags—but what about your speakers and mixers? It's all too often that we see this sort of equipment left to fend for itself in transit, but it doesn't have to be that way. Wrap up your gear with mixer and speaker cases, bags and covers to make sure it arrives in the same condition it was in when the trip started. Mixers and speakers are an investment and they deserve to travel in good hands. That's especially true on long tours and in airline cargo holds, where the risk of damage is highest. For these demanding situations, a rigid case is your best bet. These can be simple hard-shelled plastic enclosures or the industry-standard, metal-edged flight cases. As an added bonus, you can get rigid cases with casters or wheels to make a big mixer board or speaker a cinch to transport. Soft cases and bags are another option, with their own advantages. They're lighter and easier to handle, which makes them perfect for shorter trips from venue to venue or to a gig across town. You can get cases with varying amounts of padding depending on how much protection you want, or even basic weather-resistant covers to protect your mixer or speakers on the trip from tour van to backstage door during rainy-day setup and teardown. Speakers and mixers deserve to be protected en route from one gig to the next, just like your instruments themselves. With the available options in case rigidity, padding amount and size, you can choose exactly the cases that strike the best balance between the amount of protection you need and the convenience you'd like to have.
