OVERVIEW

Single-window work environment with powerful drag-and-drop functionality, and more to spark creativity.

PreSonus Studio One Artist Software is a "light" version of Studio One Pro. The music creation and production application—for both Mac OS X and Windows XP/Vista—makes audio recording, MIDI sequencing, and audio mastering ridiculously simple right out of the box. Yet Studio One Artist provides a wealth of professional features despite its ease-of-use.

Studio One Artist is the next generation in audio software, and here are a few of the reasons why: fresh code, innovative drag-and-drop MIDI mapping and plug-in management, auto-configuration with PreSonus hardware, insanely good audio quality, unlimited tracks and plug-ins per track, and a powerful, inventive Start page that literally puts the whole project right in your hands.

Far from just another music production software program, PreSonus Studio One changes the rules of the game. You get a complete application, easy-to-use from raw audio tracks to finished master with support for the latest standards and technologies.

High-End Audio Engine
Studio One Artist is based on a cutting-edge audio engine that delivers 32-bit processing on the fly ensuring high quality audio at all times.

Compatible and easy to configure
Studio One Artist is compatible with any ASIO-, Windows Audio-, or CoreAudio-compliant audio interface, including, of course, the entire line of PreSonus interfaces. It recognizes your PreSonus interface, and preprogrammed templates automatically create software inputs and assign them to the appropriate hardware inputs on your PreSonus interface. You don't have to configure your music software to work with your hardware—Studio One Artist does it for you.

The software stores I/O configurations with each song, for each computer, and for each device driver. As a result, you can take a song to a friend's studio, use Studio One Artist with their interface, and when you get back to your studio, it will recall the original I/O configuration for the song, as if you never left. This capability works regardless of interface.

Innovative Start Page
A powerful tool that will appeal to professionals and hobbyists alike, the Studio One's Start page allows you to access recent songs and projects, create new ones, configure external devices, and access tutorial information, demo songs, and a special PreSonus news feed. You can download updates and support materials directly from the Start page, without ever leaving Studio One Artist.

Easy to Navigate
Unlike most music production programs, PreSonus Studio One's single, straightforward workspace allows you to track, edit, and mix in one easy-to-navigate window that you can access with a single click. Or if you wish, you can separate the Console and Arrange views and can even drag them to separate displays. A compact Console view allows you to mix while viewing the arrangement so you don't have to bounce back and forth between windows. You also can switch to a larger Console view—yet another way that Studio One Artist helps you work quickly while giving you maximum flexibility.

The Arrange view employs a waveform display with user-selectable color-coding and sample-level zoom. The Arrange view shows you the big picture, while the Edit view shows you the up-close details; used together, they virtually eliminate the need to zoom in and out. The Console view contains faders, solos, mutes, pans, and other expected elements. It also includes extensive sidechaining capability.

PreSonus Studio One Artist's Browser provides instant access to effects, loops, instruments, and other key elements. You can preview any audio clip, and if the clip has tempo information encoded, it will play synced to the song tempo.

Powerful Drag-and-Drop Features
Here's where it gets really interesting: Studio One Artist's powerful drag-and-drop function allows you to drag an audio clip, effect, or a virtual instrument from the Browser directly onto a track in the Arrange or Console view. Timestretching enables Studio One Artist to automatically match tempo-encoded audio clips with song tempo. You can copy an effect or a whole chain of effects—including settings—by simply dragging to a new track in the Console view. These are just a few of the many ways that Studio One Artist's Browser and drag-and-drop implementation allow you to work quickly, without scrolling through pages of menus. It's a lot more fun too! No other music production software program even comes close.

Awesome Plug-Ins
Studio One Artist comes with 19 plug-ins from PreSonus' proprietary Native Effects Suite plug-ins, which include a wide variety of built-in effects, such as compressors, EQs, distortion, delay effects, amp modeling, and reverb. It also comes with three PreSonus virtual instruments are also bundled with Studio One, including SampleOne, a virtual sampler that offers the fastest sample mapping available. To also help your inspiration you get
PreSonus Instruments Vol. 1 (200 Instruments for built-in Presence
sample player), Ueberschall Impact Drums (32 Kits for built-in Impact drum sampler, PreSonus Loops Vol. 1 (approx. 1500 high-quality loops), Native Instruments KORE Player with factory content, Native Instruments Guitar Rig LE 3, and Toontrack EZDrummer Lite.

Easy, Intuitive MIDI Mapping
When it comes to MIDI mapping, Studio One Artist changes the rules yet again. Of course, you can record MIDI parts and then tweak them in a piano-roll editor. But the real fun starts with Control Link, the PreSonus DAW software's intuitive MIDI-mapping system. Simply move the hardware and software controls to be linked and click the Link button for instant mapping. In Global mode, hardware and software controls maintain a one-to-one relationship, so a hardware control is linked directly to one software control for the entire program. In Focus mode, control maps only apply to a particular plug-in, so you can make different control maps for each plug-in, and the Focus map is stored with the plug-in, giving you no-sweat, context-sensitive MIDI mapping.

I explored and investigated every available DAW and downloaded and used all of the free versions and I discovered that Presonus and Studio One were in my opinion the best game in town. Now every DAW is digital and if you learn it then it will do what you want, however in my opinion S1 has a lot of things going for it if you were in the position that I was and that was transferring from using a hardware based recording setup to a software/computer setup. S1 is state of the art and already provides an open free pdf version of the owner's manual and numerous free online video tutorials, they provide real user support and there is an active and growing online/FB user support group and community of users from beginners to professional. I started with S1 Artist and quickly upgraded to the Professional Version with all the bells and whistles which is well worth the investment if you're hard core, however if you just need the stock plug-ins and you can see the differences in versions (Artist, Producer, or Professional) on their website then Artist may be for you and you will be happy, again the only cons are that you may get addicted and you most likely will want to upgraded but if you do you will be more than happy because you will have in my opinion the best and most affordable DAW on the market, they're all good and will do everything, but with Presonus and S1 you won't be alone and left out in the cold. You will be joining a new generation of believers and S1 users who are starting to make a growing mark in today's modern music scene.

This "bundle" includes neither Guitar Rig LE 3 nor Toontrack EZDrummer Lite, and the KORE player with factory content is free software that anyone can download from Native Instruments. I contacted both PreSonus and Musician's Friend about the missing plug-ins. All I got was the run around and a bunch of finger pointing - poor service all around. Apparently, no one is accountable when the description on the website *and* the packaging doesn't match the product. You can tell a lot about a company by the way they treat their customers.

P.S. I tried calling PreSonus three times and every time I waited on hold for 30 minutes before automatically getting kicked to voice mail.

After a few months, this stopped working. It refused to open any of my music files regardless of the format. I have the correct format. WHAT IS WORSE is that I contacted support twice and neither time did I get ANY response.
Also I cannot record anymore. This is COMPLETELY useless to me now.

I got this for really really cheap on a special sale at PreSonus.
That's got to be a joke. All you get are lackluster GM synths (even if they're not, they seem like it). You cannot, I repeat, you cannot use 3rd party vst. If you get a light version of Cubase , you can pretty much do anything. I got Cubase AI 7 with software and upgraded to Cubase Elements 7 for cheap. Somewhere along the line Presonus thought it would be a good idea to give a bad first impression for first time buyers. It turns me off from their other products. It just feels cheap and unappreciative of the buyer. It feels like I was duped. I have a lite version of Cubase and full version of Reaper for not much more than this. Just a joke. I don't even care if it works good with the included software. Working good doesn't make up for its lack of functionality.

Been using Sonar X3 and wanted to try this. Seems very easy to navigate however it just doesn't have many of the recording options I'm used to. Input, Outputs works very well with my Presonus interface. Compared to X3 it just seems easier to learn and get started with. Highly recommend for the new home recording artist.

This is my first experience with DAW, although I have done multi-track demos since the 80s. No more punching in and out. I can play the riff once and drag and drop wherever I need it. I do guitars and bass as an audio file, and then quantize it to fix imperfections. For drums, piano, pads, etc I use MIDI. Unlimited tracks is great. Home multi-tracking has never been easier or sounded better. And it cost a whole lot less than my old Tascam 38--or my Tascam DP-02.
