OVERVIEW

8-track, 24-bit/96kHz capture for live, location, and surround recordings.

TASCAM's DR-680 brings multichannel portable recording within reach of any musician for polished live, location and surround recordings. The TASCAM recorder enables you to record up to 8 tracks to solid state SD card media at 24-bit/96kHz Broadcast WAV quality. 6 mic inputs provide phantom power and 60dB of gain for great-sounding recordings with your condenser microphones. Record the 6 microphones along with a digital S/PDIF source for 8-track recording. Each mic input on this portable recorder has a selectable low cut filter and analog limiter for optimal sound.

Inputs can be monitored using a built-in mixer with level and pan controls for each input. The stereo mixdown can even be recorded along with the 6 mics for quick stereo playback of the event. The TASCAM DR-680 recorder even a built-in speaker to check recordings without headphones.

In addition to WAV recording up to 96kHz, the TASCAM DR-680 portable recorder captures stereo audio at 24-bit/192kHz for audiophile-quality masters. The DR-680 records up to 4 channels of MP3 audio for web-ready recordings. 2 of the multitrack recorders can be connected with a cascade cable for up to 14-track recording on battery power.

The optional, weather-resistant CS-DR680 case (sold separately) prepares your TASCAM DR-680 for recording in the field, with Velcro straps that reveal only what's needed during recording.

Comments about TASCAM DR-680 Solid State 8 Track Location Recorder:

This is my second DR-680. I do some location recording, and this
machine is perfect. It is easy to use and very compact. The SDHC cards
are reasonable in price and readily available. I do not understand why
Tascam has discontinued this machine and replaced it with something else.
That seems to be the norm these days. Another plus for the DR-680 is that
you can record up to 8 hours on a 32MB card.
Thank you Musicians Friend for still having them in stock.

      GREAT recorder for movies

      By Joe-2EoTd

      from Idaho

Comments about TASCAM DR-680 Solid State 8 Track Location Recorder:

This is by far one of the best valued multi track recorders available for movie making enthusiasts such as myself. The preamps are very clean and more than acceptable. The fact that you can record 6 inputs at a time is awesome! This enables you to dial in your audio mix AFTER your movie sound has been recorded. It is also easily slung over your shoulder so you are able to easily monitor and control the levels of audio on the fly. To give a 3 star review on the Tascam DR-680 because it does not record at 88.2kHz sample rate is foolish. Any movie or regular music audio will be mixed down to either 44.1 or 48kHz anyway. I would love to meet someone on this planet earth that is able to tell the difference between an 88.2kHz recording and a 44.1kHz recording. This is a high quality recorder at a low price, end of discussion!
